Chicago's beloved rat hole has been filled in with cement. A beloved institution of the city and one that many people have taken the pilgrimage to visit has been vandalized. People in the area are doing everything they can to free the rat hole from its cement prison. Do not stand between the people of Chicago and having a good time. The rat hole will be freed. The rat hole will outlive us all.

Days ago, people were making a pilgrimage to the site. Now, it appears someone has filled it in. Who would do such a thing?

I made my pilgrimage two days ago, shame. There was a pleasant vibe and everyone walking by would stop and chat for a few minutes, maybe drop some coins, and continue on.

Update: The entire slab of concrete containing the Rat Hole has been taken away by the city.

Chicago Rat Hole Removed By City — But It's Being Preserved While Its Fate Is Determined

Roscoe Village neighbors saw city officials remove the piece of sidewalk with the rodent-shaped hole Wednesday morning. Officials say it will be preserved.

Takes the city of Chicago literal eons to fix potholes, but don't worry, the "No Fun Allowed" folks decided to just fully remove the entire damn slab. They claim it will be "preserved" but probably in some corny display in a CDOT building rather than just being a fun little detour for people to stop by if they're in the neighborhood.
