Since Suicide Squad is a topic at the moment, it made me wonder if there are franchises that can work and could even fit.

My mind went to Power Rangers for some reason, i mean, you have several seasons of shows, so many different characters and costumes, different weapons and you could make it about a team of 5 or 6 fighting mooks from various seasons and then fight a monster or more...and there are a shit ton of monsters in the franchise.

If you survive and kill all the monsters, then people can get a giant fight where they each control a Megazord and fight giant monsters...and again, there are a ton of Megazords and Ultrazords in the franchise, even more if you count the comics.

But even without Megazords or them just appearing for attacks, you could basically do Helldivers but Power Rangers...

Financial ruin: a gacha driven Chao Garden with multiplayer events in the style of Fall Guys (but all you do is cheer at the right times). That should've been the game instead of using Sonic characters tbh.

I would love to see Nintendo's take on a gaas, particularly with Zelda Totk. I like the concept of gaas more than most people here, and just like the idea of having a consistent expanding videogame home. Daily Totk puzzles or combat missions with a slowly rebuilding Hyrule would be my dream.

I always thought that it would be the one Apple Watch game that would make sense, a Chao Adventure app that mimics the VMU and tracks steps while a fuller Chao Garden is on the phone.

I would be very into that.

I don't understand why we've had to suffer so long without new Chao content. Life is pain 😔

COD Zombies
Ghosts of Tsushima Legends

It's all I want, that or someone palworld a version of those two games. I don't care.

Nintendo? Animal Crossing is the given

Smash with a battle pass.

Could make them franchise-themed and do so many.
Unironically, I would've loved if Smash Ultimate had a battle pass that worked like Crash Team Racing.

There's a lot of untapped potential for costumes. I mean you can do endless Yoshi colors and Animal Crossing villagers

Midgar, With Love
Remake Xenogears a live service title with multiple revenue streams including Battle Passes and MTX (both cosmetic and otherwise).

Definitely.

Technically Monster Hunter already did unless you consider Frontier a true MMO lol.

I think that franchise has succeeded on both fronts with pretty unique sequels and Frontier which managed to carve out its own identity over 10 years

I'm having a hard time finding a game I want to be a GAAS, perhaps because right now I have so many great ones to play.

I might be up for an XCOM gaas cause that means more xcom that we currently don't have lol.

I'd probably really be into a Titanfall GAAS.

Halo Helldivers, could've been a thing years ago. Folks love ODSTs and they haven't shown up in any of the games since 343i took over

Honestly I'm shocked they didn't go full on GAAS.

If they did a more traditional Animal Crossing with MTX and live event islands it would be a fucking tsunami.

Christ, my wife puts in hours of AC a day already and she'd probably drop her AFK and RAID addictions and just play AC the moment she gets home from work.

The third entry in the Breath of the Wild trilogy could just be DLC for TotK, or be a subscription where Hyrule changes every so often with new things to do.

Morizora's Forest
Musou Games really. A solid campaign. Additional maps, characters, objective types, musics, side stories.

One Piece Pirate Warriors could do it. I'd still want a meaty base game but given the series is still running they can certainly achieve it.

Fire Emblem Warriors has enough characters and games can too, just revisiting the old stories will have a long campaign, extended further if they go for a revisit with a twist such as with a new protagonist or time line variance twists.

Splatoon. It's kinda crazy how you get so much continual content without having a paid battle pass or constant MTX.
I would argue it already is a GAAS, just not one with MTX. It gets frequent updates, has events, things of that nature. Maps rotate at intervals. Stuff in shops sold for in-game currency changes.

I don't think having MTX is what defines a GAAS.

Mario Kart 10 (yes I know tour exists and is GaaS).

Mario Kart 8 already is with the U game getting DLC, and then the Switch game doubling its total tracks via more DLC.

Honestly, make a new franchise and make it work as a GaaS like Destiny did. I am sure almost every idea will be not well received by someone that would rather have a normal good entry of the franchise.

Make Destiny 3 and I would be there day 1.

If not I honestly think the whole GaaS approach should be rethought. When I think about a GaaS I honestly think about multiplayer shooter, but Hitman was sort of a GaaS. If you give me a GaaS that is unique or even if it is something we want made better vs being made gamey, then I would take it.

Imagine if GTA had gone GaaS and just exanded the narrative over 210 years with SP content. Maybe they have in some way, but I haven't been interested because of the PVP.

Hell no, give me a new lost planet that takes some queues from Returnal, but keep GaaS away.

I'd rather them take cues from just about anything else. lost planet would be best taking from monster hunter, not an undercooked roguelite
Rather reductive to call Returnal an undercooked roguelite when it has such popularity. It can definitely learn from it to improve the formula they had, but keep it the same.

Monster Hunt is a whole different game.

None. GaaS is pure shit. I have no issues paying $70 for a decent new game with a fair amount of content. I also don't have an issue throwing another $20-$30 for a decent sized expansion like the Souls games. I don't even mind the occasional cosmetic purchase for a few bucks. However, I will never buy a game where the entire point is to financially bleed me dry over the course of a few years. Fuck that noise.

I've thought Twisted Metal was ripe for a well supported service game structure for years, since well before TM 2012. And it's been absolutely baffling to me that Sony has never been able to capitalize on it. And that while Twisted Metal 2012 was a pretty great (and heavily underrated) game, it could and should have been so much more.

The whole "diverse character roster with distinct personalities, aesthetics, and playstyles/move-sets" + Battle Royale have been successful game design templates for awhile now. And I think a well executed, well supported, strong aesthetic and gameplay F2P Twisted Metal could be a hit.

And speaking of Sony, I don't know how Naughty Dog failed to capitalize on The Last of Us multiplayer. Original Factions was already amazing and underrated and they could have made it something seriously spectacular if they navigated it right. Too bad.

I always thought Hogwarts legacy would've been well suited as a GaaS game. Wouldn't be surprised if they did that for the follow up.

An MMO-ish Harry Potter game seems like it would do well.

Splatoon basically functions like old MP game days where you bought the game once and got included updates for like a year or so with balance updates, maybe a couple weapons or items and special event. Titanfall 2 was one of that old school MP I played (almost a year after release because I kinda forgot it existed lol) and had everything in base game and to my surprise I got new maps and even a freaking Titan as free DLC.

Nowadays MP games expect you to part with money in some way as GAAS or Gacha to get extra content like skins, characters, maps, campaigns, and whatever else. You don't have to buy it course it but the incentive is always there. With Splatoon 3 while it does have map and item rotation to keep you coming back daily or hourly, none of it requires money so I don't class it as GAAS.

Millions of people are playing GaaS everyday, most of them pay little money, if at all. You must be in some dire financial situation if a couple of rounds of Fortnite can bleed you dry.

I've thought so too, but if Avengers can fall apart so fast (especially since it came out near the MCU movie peak), then no IP would be a safe bet. I would be so curious to see the final financial/ dev totals for Avengers compared to a successful single play hero game like Spidey 2.
