With the new PS5 firmware update being available to everyone tomorrow, what NVNE SSD are you going to be installing in your PS5. I am installing the Gigabyte Aorus 1TB drive.

EDIT: I have installed the Gigabyte Aorus NVME Drive and the PS5 is not detecting the drive. I do not if it is my PS5 or the Gigabyte Aorus Drive. I have updated the PS5 to its current firmware. I am thinking it is the Gigabyte Aorus Drive that is defective. I will return the Gigabyte Aorus Drive and probably get a NVME Drive.

Update: So I went to Best Buy and got a WD Black SN850 NVME Drive without a heatsink to test my PS5 to see if it was the Gigabyte Aorus or my PS5 and the WD Black SN 850 works on the PS5. I have ordered a Sabrent Rocket 4 Plus and a ICEPC heatsink from Amazon. If the Sabrent Rocket 4 Plus works which Drive should I keep the Sabrent or the WB Black SN850?

Probably a 1TB Samsung 980 Pro with an Eluteng 2280 just to save like $60 off the WD Black Heatsink option.

I'm waiting at this point, I took Digital Foundry's advice and hooked up an external SATA SSD for PS4 games and storing PS5 games. That way I can migrate games back and forth without paying way too much for another NVME SSD,

2 TB WD SN850 already installed during the beta.

I think most people will opt for 1TB.

I also don't think waiting a price drop is wise with the current state of supply chains. If you want one, buy one.

Waiting till Spring and hopefully 2TB units are a little cheaper and maybe newer models run a little cooler.

EDIT: Oh... poop.

Probably a WD Black SN850 with heatsink. I was saving it for my PC build but the other drive I have is the Aorus Gen 4 with heatsink but it's only 5000/4400 which will work but is slightly below spec and may burn me in the future.

They're more expensive than the PS5.

I'm normally an early adopter, but not for this.

I ordered my Samsung 980 Pro 1TB for 149€ today. Slap a 5-15€ heatsink on it and you're good.

Still expensive GB/€ ration, but it's new tech. I actually didn't expect the price to come down that much already.

When the time comes, 1TB SN850. Wanna see if they do any deals during the holiday season.

Im debating between these ssd currently:
  • GIGABYTE AORUS Gen4 7000s 2TB with heatsink (362€)
  • ADATA XPG GAMMIX S70 Blade 2TB with heatsink (322€)
  • ADATA XPG GAMMIX S70 2TB with chunky heatsink (282€)

I would have to buy a additional third-party heatsink for both ADATA SSDs since too big or too weak. I heard that ADATA has been swapping the controllers so im not sure if they are the best option.

XPG GAMMIX S70 Blade 1TB for $139.99, 2TB for $300 is temping butnahhh

will upgrade to 4TB in a few years probably assuming it hits <$200 in that time period
The included heatspreader does nothing in this model sadly. Temps will easily go up to high 60s or even low 70s under sustained load.

The prices for XPG GAMMIX S70 Blade are really good. For a 2TB XPG Gammic S70 it is $299 which is a really price.

Going to wait it out a bit… managing downloads hasn't been a huge pain thus far so I'm just going to live with it until 2TBs come down in price… then hopefully I'll never have to delete a game again and storage will be even more of a non-issue (famous last words).

I don't feel right about spending the same amount on storage and what my PS5 cost

I have a 1TB WD SN850 ready to go. Knowing myself, by the time I need even more storage, I'll have bought the inevitable PS5 Pro by then.

I'm nowhere near being out of storage in my PS5. Maybe because I play multi platform games on PC?

Best to wait a year or two for SSDs that are more performant with writes and more efficient so they generate less heat.

Nothing until the prices for 2+ TB SSD:s come WAY down. They're ridiculous at the moment and 1TB doesn't help much. I'm good for now with my 4 & 5TB drives for Ps4 stuff and storage.

I'm doing the sensible thing and uninstalling games when I'm done with them. But I love to see consoles having this option and who knows, maybe someday I'll add a drive if it gets way too bloated.

I can't believe the amount of people I see buying 4TB drives for almost a thousand dollars. Seems so overkill unless you are buying and keeping every single game released on the PS5 installed on that drive.

I don't like to buy a shit ton of games just to delete them due to space running out and then forgetting about them. I like to keep my purchases accessible whenever I feel like playing (not waiting for download to finish) them. That said, I can't see myself going for 4TB SSD for Ps5 anytime soon..

Got the 1tb wd on a deal here in the uk. Kinda dreading installing the heatsink tomorrow in case I mess it up.
