Everyone knows your midichlorian count only increases due to constant exposure to danger. Its forced evolution in action.

We would have way, way, way more jedi and sith on Earth if we weren't so hamstrung with concern for things like kids safety.

Star Trek was built as a future extension of our own world

Star Wars is more like a sci-fi version of fantasy medieval series

It shouldn't be surprising which has safety regulations

My favorite Star Wars fact is TIE fighters have no shields, no hyperdrive, and no life support. Their entire plans for them is to throw enough at them at the rebels to win.

It's technically Star Wars, but my gut tells me Star Trek is the worst one. At least in Star Wars you know that shit looks and is unsafe. In Star Trek you could be sitting down at a terminal having a nice day then the ship hits the space equivalent of a speed bump, the terminal blows up in your face, parts of the ceiling come down, the room catches fire, and the fire suppression system only ever works for comedic effect. Oh, and there is a decent chance the doors won't open in an emergency and you have to hope you can pry them open with your bare hands with your face and eyes full of blood before the fire cooks you, takes all the oxygen, or the smoke gets you.

At least Star Wars lets you know you are in a death trap, Star Trek, at least the Federation parts of it, will lull you into a false sense of security with all those creature comforts and lip service to safety.

The Star Wars universe is an absolute shithole for most of the movies, especially anything after the prequels. It's fairly overt that standards of living are absolute dogshit under the Empire's rule and tons of common people are depicted as more or less living in squalor. Within the empire things are hardly better, there's an extreme disregard for human life in anything they do, including their own high-ranking officials. Darth Vader in Ep 4 nearly chokes out an official literally just because he felt disrespected, and obliterates her daughter's "home" planet just because.

It's closer to medieval or wild west fantasy in writing and lore rules than it is about any kind of future. The title card even says the series takes place a "long time ago", meaning definitely not any kind of utopian future like Star Trek was conceived to do.

Parts Unknown.
The empire doesn't care about the safety of their employees

If they had a rail they would just be leaning on it all day.

By and large, this is canon actually. Most handrails that you see are probably oversights, or thereabouts: "no handrails" is practically an official IP guideline.

Like, in Andor they filmed a bunch of apartments on location, and some of the behind the scenes shots show not only that they added CG backgrounds (trading London out for Coruscant) but also painted out handrails in the foreground.

Pfffffffffft! THEY REMOVED THE HANDRAILS. They're like reverse OSHA. They also got rid of the handrails on the sides of the stairs because screw people who need to hold onto something while they go up and down stairs.

Star Trek has consoles that blow up in the operator's face instead if simply losing power in an emergency and they also have rocks in the bridge ceiling that fall down and crush you when the ship gets heavily damaged. But Star Wars is still worse, no regards for safety at all.

I'm curious what Spock did to get the warp engine back online in the Wrath of Khan, and why none of the engineers went to fix it it, since it was literally their JOBS to do it, not the Science Officer who just walks in and fiddles around with something in the core chamber that exposes him to deadly radiation.

Also curious why there were no safety suits in the Enterprise's warp chamber in the event a breach occurred and needed to be fixed in there.

At the very least this guy has handrails but why is there a guy up here doing this at all instead of literally anything else. They have sentient robots in this galaxy but their best way of keeping lookout is a lone guy on a very tall pole. He's got a spear he can't possibly use!

Trek has better medical tech, shields almost everywhere, and some kind of safety standards.

Star Wars doesn't give a fuck about you and will do its best to fuck your day up. Star Trek is space U.N where most factions want to just have a good time fucking random shit in the holodeck.

Star Trek automatically because transporters kill every person transported, it just makes a copy

Continuity of mind during transport has been shown throughout the series so even it your original body is destroyed, does it really matter if your mind is intact?

Under normal circumstances they would probably perform a full engine shutdown before making repairs, which they didn't have time to do.

In space dogfights between small space crafts in general is a good way to get people killed. So that's another way Star Trek folks are safer, even in battle.

Fighters in Star Wars look freaking cool, but single seat fighters in space is the equivalent of reimagining WWII and replacing tanks with soldiers riding motorcycles side by side because you want to evoke the look of cavalry charges.

On one hand, everything is super gritty in SW and people can die from a single laser shot in the arm even wearing armour.

On the other hand (literally), any old greasy mechanic can replace internal organs or limbs with cybernetics, or you can stick people in a magical water bottle overnight and they'll be fine.

George Lucas intentionally modelled everything around WWII-era tech and warfare. His rule was that someone from that time watching it would not be confused by anything.

I think Star Trek develops things are intentionally very dangerous like why would there even be an option to turn off safety protocols for the holodecks? Why is that even a thing to begin with?

Whereas Star Wars, things are naturally dangerous because that's just how things are. Like that door should just be a weapon itself but it's been there for probably a thousand years so they don't know how to make safe doors

This threads hilarious and I realised I know absolutely nothing about Warhammer.

Hopefully it's good when the series is out. Introduce me to it.
