It's Nice to see that many companies that never made anything for the Wii U or even the 3DS are now working on the Switch considering how succesful it has been. However it called my attention how Eidos (western Square Enix) hasn released anything for it aside from indie games published by them (like Forgotton Anne), they have not Made any port of anything, not even Life is Strange which is not a game with super instense graphics, at the point that Vapyr Will be Dontnod first game for the Switch. It's support has been even worse than EA, which at least made those fifa ports as well as publishing indie games for it. That is pretty weird considering how solid Square Enix Japan support has been so far.

This is not to port beg, but to ask if there is a reason for that. Maybe they said in an interview they are not interesed on it?.

Life is easier when you don't worry about every specific developer and publisher about their Switch support. Being pretty dramatically different specs than the other 2 main consoles probably means it's a tad more work to port.

Because just like Sega with Yakuza they tried once on Wii U (Deus Ex HR Director's Cut -best version on Wii U btw) and that didn't work out so we'll never see a Western game from them again until someone comes begging with moneybags.

They probably just don't see the numbers there for the games. A lot of times it's as simple as that, we can't expect everyone to always support everything. Regardless of how awesome a system is, look at how many games miss the Xbox platform especially Japanese ones, companies know what works or would work most of the time, not always but most times.

Basically, + the issue of some western devs/publishers still thinking they need to add some specific features or button configurations in their port, like Codemasters :
"There are signs of more traditional games coming out for Switch with full controller support like Skyrim, but would Dirt Rally or Dirt 4 work on a split Switch controller? I think we'd have to do quite a lot in terms of extra tweaks."

"When you take it away and you've got it in tablet mode with the Joy-Cons it's great, but those split controllers, thats custom game design right there specifically for that platform.

"There are not many inputs, so you'd have to have super simplified controls and because of that, it may not be the ideal scenario for DiRT 4.
There's still some weird perception issue out there.

Life is strange being left out seems weird. Also figured at least TR 2013 would be ported by this point.

"We're not porting Tomb Raider to switch."
"We just announced Smash DLC Round 2. What a shame."
"We're suddenly 33% done with the port. No clue how that happened."

Almost everything that Square Enix Europe publishes that can be on Switch is on Switch. Life Is Strange is definitely a big omission though.

What the...

Have Codemasters ever seen a Switch before?

Eidos is doomed financially if they don't put anything on Switch. No reason not to put the new Avengers on it. This is really a shame.

There aren't really that many games they're developing that would run well on switch are there? They're not exactly a prolific developer. First two Tomb Raiders and Life is Strange seem like obvious choices, and I'm sure someone hinted at the first two TRs.

I feel like every answer to such threads is "because they dont want to". What's there to speculate about?

Western AAA developers simply have prejudices toward not supporting Nintendo platforms. That's a fact. It takes Nintendo coming to them first.

On the other hand, indies mostly can't wait to put their games on Nintendo platforms.

I'm willing to chalk that up to their general mismanagement of Eidos properties/studios. The last solid thing to come out of those was Deus Ex Human Revolution (Mankind Divided was amazing, but Squeeenix did everything humanly possible to sabotage it).

I dunno who's in charge of SE Europe, but they aren't making good decisions with existing properties (though LiS and Just Cause franchises that were SE's own initiatives are in a better spot). But the "core" Eidos franchises?

-Deus Ex- botched Mankind Divided's launch, on ice for God knows how long (though apparently not dead, EM is now working on a Guardians of the Galaxy game, so who knows when we'll see DX again?)
-Thief- tried to reboot the series and make Garret Batman- on ice/dead? (I dunno, haven't heard anything about this)
-Hitman- allowed IO to buy themselves out
-Tomb Raider- tried to turn into Uncharted clone, and got progressively lukewarm reception.
-Legacy of Kain- abortive multi-player spin-off "Nosgoth" cancelled in beta; a new project "Dark Sun" scrapped. Basically at this point no sign of life what-so-ever, :(

Instead, we now have the Marvel multi-game deal.

Guys, ya know that SE didn't make life is strange right? It's from DONTNOD even the side game is from Deck Nine. They're probably super small and don't have the resources to do a port on top of another game. Also "just pay a company to port it then" probably isn't going to work when the overall return on investment might not be as much as you think.

As for the other games, Eidos themselves are probably in a world of financial pain, they haven't been doing that well lately after the TR debacle that's probably soured a lot of people on the series. Gotta deliver on that next mega hit before they can do whatever.

I really don't know why they don't just re-reboot Tomb Raider and drop the "DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAD" focus. It makes Lara into such a wimpy, pathetic character when she always, inevitably, makes everything about her parents.

Pro tip: you should never expect third party support for a Nintendo console. Just be happy when you get it. It's been like this for over two decades.

Square Enix Europe is very small as far as studios are concerned. Other than Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montreal, their teams are small studios that assist their big two or focus on smaller titles like the now-defunct Go series. All their resources are focused on Avengers for now. So, in a nutshell, they lack the manpower to do anything themselves.

Which is a shame, because I really want a new Lara Croft game. It's also Perfect for the Switch™ .

Oh nothing would be better than to drop the dark, grim aspect they wanted to take from uncharted and be a more fun-ish adventure like game.

On a side note, why hasn't someone made an adventure game like National treasure but with a big budget?

DontNod is bringing both Vampyr and Call of Cthulhu in October, so Life is Strange is probably not too far behind. But is that really considered Eidos?

It does seem odd as Square Enix proper and Taito are pretty gung ho on the platform. Other than their indie program SE Europe ignores Switch.

It just isn't feasible for the developer and their goals currently. Which is why Square makes sure to support the system with their own content from Japan.
