Well, Xbox and PS4 do have something that PC doesn't. Leverage.
They hold people ransom by paywalling the online service.
Because Sony and Microsoft know a huge amount of people are gonna subscribe to PS+ and XBL Gold anyway just for online multiplayer. Services on PC don't offer that since MP is free there, which means that they need to offer good games to get people to pay for their service, no good offerings = low amount of subscribers. Humble Monthly is also $12 a month, which puts it at $132 a year, that's more than double the price of PS+ and XBL Gold.
i didnt say it makes them holy, nor did i say there's zero pirating on consoles. there's nothing ignorant about it. piracy on PC's and consoles isnt even comparable. it's simply a thing companies look at when considering business plans on PC that they pretty much ignore on consoles. This is such an old and ignorant point of view. People are actually pirating current gen consoles as we speak now. Owning a console doesn't make someone holy.
Yeah, the main point is ripping you off by making you pay for p2p online.Because PS+ and Gold main point isn't the ''free'' games. People keep subscribing so...
thonk.jpegPC monthly subscriptions like humblebundle are better as Gold & Plus?
Can I play PS4 Games on my PS4 and Xbox One games on my Xbox with them? No? Well.
You're an outlier tbh.I do The only mp game I play is TLOU but that's only once or twice a year.
I have subscribed to Plus since day one on ps3 and do it purely for the games
What are those exactly?I guess enjoy your PC gaming folks.
I generally enjoy the benefits of console multiplayer and with the monthly free games I'm content.
The Benefit of paying for something that is free on PC? Yeah I don't know either. Would be nice if Discord or some other service came to Consoles, would force Microsoft's and Sony's hand to have a alternative free service.
YepBecause PS+ and Gold main point isn't the ''free'' games. People keep subscribing so...
No online ransom, so they try and keep you subscribing with better content.
I have a different view on this and you guys will probably skewer me but I'm ok with that.
PC and Steam are the usual counterarguments to this and I can't really comment on that because my PC gaming days ended before Steam and digital distribution became the norm. In my experience PC gaming online was free but it varied so much title by title that it felt much cheaper by comparison. People didn't really have any skin in the game not to fuck around as there was no reputation system, cheating was a big problem and games like battlefield were server hopping free for all.
- Microsoft charges what amounts to $5 a month for their online service.
- They charge the fee for maintaining their online infrastructure which includes things like servers for party chat, global achievements, cloud saves, reputation system, managing cheaters and voice chat abusers, etc.
- Free to play games are treated the same way as any other games as they are still maintaining the same things architecturally as they do for pay games.
- The online service gives you 2-3 free titles every month.
I have been on XBL since its inception and I never felt like I got a raw deal.
I'm ready for my filleting now...
I think the difference in Sony's policy right now is that a third party account is cold locked into their ecosystem and that's different to me from putting free to play behind your online service.
Yeah you're right in that you're way out of date in your view on PC onliine gaming.
just so you know, it's not a race to make the most terrible post
Yeah you're right in that you're way out of date in your view on PC onliine gaming.
Steam has cloud saves, achievements, party chat etc. Etc. All for free.

Oh I don't know, just saying it does have party chat. There's also discord and other 3rd party programsSteam has dedicated servers for Party chat? I thought it was peer to peer?

Plus larger library and twitch prime, humble bundles, monthly bundles, 4packs (which I've never seen on a console) etc.

You're right I have noticed them getting better. There's still the issue of some older games and DLC not going on sale nearly ever though.Digital sales on consoles have been much much improved over the past couple of years. Not as good as on PC, but pretty damn good. As console manufacturers become less and less scared of pissing off retail the sales become better.
You can sell/trade the games you aren't interested in, though (or give them to friends/Era). I even made a profit every now and then while I still bothered selling the games I wasn't interested in.Second, there is also a pretty big difference in the services - you need to pay before you know what games you get with humble. Granted they show a few games beforehand (usually the "big" ones), but you can not look at the complete package of games and decide if it is worth $12 for you.

I feel really bad for these people that need to close themselves off to one platform, then tattoo said platform on their chest like some tribal warrior. Eh, maybe they can't afford multiple gaming platforms and are just trying to make themselves feel better via fanboyism. But know you're missing out if you're console only or PC only.
What convenience do PS+ and XBLG provide? If I only have a PS4, there's no point in subscribing to Humble. I would rather just pay for a single service and not worry about competing services, game requirements or whatever else.
Also, PS+ and Xbox Live Gold are not just about the bonus games. It's about convenience. The same reason why I pay for Spotify and not worry about anything else instead of paying for Tidal and Apple Music as well.
I don't actually pay for Spotify. I use Deezer.
Playing online, automatic updates, exclusive deals, bonus games, etc. The most convenient thing, however, is knowing that I don't need to worry about other subscription service for the hardware I already own. Just like Spotify, you mindlessly pay for it and trust the company to do their stuff.
Wait... that's every other service though?
