Working all day every day till we drop dead in this capitalistic society in a office environment while the whole world burns down.

We actually have a choice or it's just a illusion?

I'm working 45+ hours a week and is horrible I'm just tired the majority of the time.

I wish we could work half the time and have better wages but I don't think it would be possible in my lifetime.

So ERA do you believe that it is possible to change the way we are working in the future?

You're describing the world as humans have positioned things and not life as a collective experience.

You do have a choice, but I can't say what the best option is for you.

As long as you're not living in extreme poverty, we are in the best time to live in human history (Can't say anything about 50 years from now).

I try to enjoy it while I can. It's easier when your work is actually fun (programming).

but to be real with you unless something drastic happens to change it, I'm pretty sure we're stuck with these long af hours.

You really got to stop with these kind of threads. All of you. Nothing wrong with seeking advice but having a bleak outlook on live alone will not change anything.

you need to setup a vehicle for passing income or get your living expenses way down to reduce work time.

the 30 hour work week really should have been a thing by now. vote for basic income or shorter work weeks whenever you get the chance

We are animals, OP, nothing more. There is no grand plan, no destiny, no fate, just animals doing what they can while they expend their short lives in a frenzied melee for the chance to eat and fuck.

It's pretty ok, all things considered. I'm gonna go home and play some videogames later and then snuggle with my GF while we watch Avatar: The Last Airbender.

We are here to live. Life is self-perpetuating.

All we can do is make the most of it.

Just think about if all of humanity died most of what would be left is just giant chunks of rock or fire floating around. Like, that's what's real and there for trillions of years. So rando.

I dunno, I like being alive. I work, but i'm thankful to have a job where it's a strict 40 hour week and I get plenty of time to spend time doing things I love with people I enjoy being around.

To me it doesn't feel so bleak, and I don't really feel like I'm "suffering", but I have to admit I was scrolling through the thread titles a bit ago and saw the one about some NFL guy retiring at 28 and all I could think was, "....I sure wish I could've retired at 28. To have time to spend my life for me, before my body is old and decrepit."

But overall I have it pretty good compared to many and I feel like I can't really complain.

Don't think we are changing the way people work anytime soon. 40 hours does not seem bad to me and actually provides me a good balance of not feeling cooped up at home + mentally stimulating work. Would 35 or 36 be better? Sure.

A few concussions and 7-8 years in the NFL as a linebacker, his mind and body may as well be 55.

You're pretty lucky to be able to work in an air conditioned office, sitting at a desk, using a computer with internet, and not destroying your body in a mine or construction site for much, much less money and more hours

I would recommend you get a talkspace or counseling and also limit your consumption of this website (and twitter, and the news), there's lots of doom and gloom and misery porn here that will definitely get to you. Stay strong, world's pretty cool contrary to what people here say

Eh, I'm having a pretty good time lately. I cut out watching the news, avoid political threads the best I can, and I make the most out of the free time that is available to me. Working sucks, but it beats sucking people off under a bridge for pineapples.

Create a doppelgänger to handle the grunt work, and leave him a recording saying he's EchoChamber too.

Am I here to work? No. I work because I want to make money in order to maintain the lifestyle that I'm accustomed to.

Am I working on a way to make money without having to wake up early every morning and commute? Absolutely. It'll just take some time, patience, and work to get things where I want them so I can quit my nine to five and focus solely on the other thing.

I'm also here to pet dogs. All the dogs.

That's fair, I don't follow football and got enough existential dread from the title, so I didn't actually read the thread. >.>;

Not that you asked for it, but here's a quick what's what of that thread:

Long and short of it, concussions have been a massive source of brain trauma and life long health problems for players, and the NFL is just now starting to take note and is putting in rules to reduce the number of concussions. That being said some players still have more than a few throughout their careers (some have more than a few in a season) and don't want to keep rolling the dice on the permanent brain damage roulette table.

Then there's just general life span of an NFL player is 4 years due to all the injuries and wear and tear. Linebacker happens to be one of the more grueling positions as your job is basically general of the defense and you are involved in hard contact just about every play.

We're seeing more and more players retire during their prime to preserve their health than to keep playing until they can't get out of bed on Monday's anymore and spend their 50-60s in a wheel chair. Andrew Luck up and quit before last season and his injury list from 6 years in the NFL is scary because he plays QB and they are the most protected players on the field; torn rib cartilage x2, partially torn abdomen, lacerated kidney, concussions, torn labrum. These guys go through a meat grinder.

It's crazy, my kids will never play football.

I like food, video games, and sex. Might as well stay alive and keep enjoying them.
