Previous statement comes from the time my sister sat down and watched the My hero Academia movie with me and my nephew. She was really put off by All Might's power down form.

"You'll never amount to anything playing that faggot anime shit." - Random High School Bully #865 looking over my shoulder as I play Breath of Fire III on my PSP

Jokes on you, jackass. I have a solid career that pays well and have a lovely relationship.

I watched JoJo: Thus Spoke Kishibe Rohan on Netflix the other day and tried explaining to my wife that "the mountain demands that you have perfect manners or it kills you." to little success.

"Whoow you are into video game shit? Come on dude grow up "

My high-school plastic friends when they entered my room for the first time , my fault too since we were the equivalence of the football jacket wearing, popular assholes from the movies and I really played my part, sadly.

During those days (2001- 2002) being a video game enthusiast and collector was seen as "fucking nerd weirdo " shit. Gaming was not as widespread accepted as nowadays where every douche plays FIFA.

omg, this is such a grandma thing. When Kingdom Hearts 2 first came out, I was on a family trip and played the game in our hotel, with my grandma (dad's side) watching. She kept making the comment "wow, you're making that kid run everywhere, you're going to tire him out!"

Amazingly, recently while working from home I've been streaming some games on Facebook, and one of them was KH2. My family did a Zoom call with my grandma (mom's side) that night and she said she watched the stream and made a comment like "I thought you were going to tire that kid out by making him run everywhere."

Nearly a 15-year difference, two different grandmas making the exact same observation about the same video game. Love it.

Back in Middle School whenever I said I liked Zelda I had a bunch of folks make fun of me for playing a game "where you play as a warrior princess".

I paint miniatures. I knew a guy in Arkansas back in the day and he would always reference this Spaceballs scene:

"Are you playing with your dolls again?"

TBH, I always thought it was a pretty funny take!

When my parents brought a big flat TV back in the day, one day I wanted to see how my PC games would look on a big screen, so I connected my PC with the TV and tried some games out.. after some minutes my parents walked into the room and asked me what I was doing.. I said that I wanted to see how games on the new big TV would look like - I had Witcher 2 on the screen right then and I was waiting for them to say something like "those graphics are great.. this is how videogames look right now? etc", because the last time they saw some videogames in their lives was probably somewhere in 97-98' when we had some cheap knock-off "Nintendo" console from Poland.. but what they actually said after asking if it's a movie or a game on the TV was "That's a videogame? Then why do they talk so much? And why aren't you doing anything? Shouldn't you play it?"

My Dad used to call Spider-Man and other early 2000's superheroes a certain derogatory term pertaining to female anatomy.

Well now he watches every superhero film and eagerly looks forward to Wandavision every week lol.

"Oh he's definitely a badass" My Dad said once when he saw me playing as Majima in Yakuza 0. He wasn't wrong.

He is insistent on pausing and rewinding films we watch every few moments when a new element or character appears before the film has a chance to explain it. It's not that he doesn't lack attention, he just wants to understand everything IMMEDIATELY otherwise he gets frustrated.

Last night I'm halfway through Lovecraft's absolutely batshit "The Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath" and my normie wife (who thinks basic Marvel movies are too weird) asks me the hardest question possible: "What's your book about?"

I panicked and said "it's just scary stories"

Also back in the day I was playing Conker's Bad Fur Day at a friend's house (14 years old) with his grandma working at the kitchen table, silent the whole time, who I guess finally had heard enough and burst into a "WHAT are you boys doing???" when the Great Mighty Poo got going into his song.

LOL my mom still buys random comics to give to me today. That is how i ended up reading the Coheed and Cambria comicbook

Honestly I treasure the "bad" comics, games, etc that relatives have gotten me more than the good stuff that I got myself because of the thought behind it. Though some of the random stuff I've been given which I never would have given a second look ended up being pretty good.

I'm confused too, but I haven't seen the ova. I'm guessing it's because of a new stand / supernatural being and the idea of a super niche power set was weird to her?

True the random stuff is always what you remember and forms your love of stuff. Like the first comic i ever got was the M edition of the Handbook to the marvel universe my grandmother brought for me at Piggyly Wiggly. I still remember it like it was yesterday. I read that shit until it fell apart in my hands

Every single football/wrestling douche at my school had an SNES and played Street Fighter II.
There was absolutely no stigma against video games. Class of 1994.

They collected video games and had a huge collection?

Also I don't know what are you trying to do. Are you trying to say that what I'm saying is bull?

"Why dont you watch some real anime" from random clerk checking me out at the Suncoast in the mall after I handed him the boxed DVD set of Dragonball Z Buu Saga lol. This was like 20 years ago too.
