Huge archive available of all kinds of stuff from my dimly remembered past. MS-DOS library here, Win 3.X library here.

First thing I did was boot up Ski Free

I think the performance is kind of terrible in-browser but maybe thats cos i was running a youtube vid at the same time

Shouts to Kotaku for the reminder

Highlights:
Chips Challenge
Glider 4.0 for Windows
Missile Attack
Prince of Persia
Oregon Trail
Disney's Aladdin
Scorched Earth
SimCity
Jazz Jackrabbit

Plenty more on the site, no way I could add every game I remember

They're apparently exempt of takedown requests. You can also download Nintendo/Sega ROMs and other actually illegal content on there, I guess there's not much publisher's can do?

They're more than a ROM depository. As far as I know they're one of the biggest of the archival trawlers.

I remember something similar that website for old dos games like 14 years ago (abandonware?). Had an impressive collection but could not tell what most of the games were.

It's archive.org. The Internet Archive can make things publicly available that most sites would get in trouble for.
Some of the stuff you can find in Archive.org shocks me sometimes. I've seen a lot of Nintendo stuff in there from different systems that would get shut down by Nintendo if it was some other site. Wonder what is up with that.

2500 DOS games archived. That is a lot of games. I'm surprised they didn't make another launcher for it.

They have fields of glory. I loved that game. I need to find my instruction manual as you had to input certain word on a certain page before playing I think.

Epic needs to remake Jazz. :D
Yep, Jazz Jackrabbit is one of the first games I remember playing, and I've played it for such a long time. It's one of those games that I have high regards when I try to understand why and when I started to like videogames. It'd be a dream to see 1 and 2 fully remastered.

If you're reading this for some reason, thanks, Cliff.

to assuage your fears the internet archives are relying primarily on a specific DMCA exemption for:
  • Computer programs and video games distributed in formats that have become obsolete and which require the original media or hardware as a condition of access.
This is a fairly broad exemption and is last mentioned from 2006; I don't know how far it holds up in this era of remakes and remasters. That said, a lot of the 3.1 stuff is Shareware versions anyway, so
PS1 Silent Hill is on there. That doesn't meet the criteria for that DMCA exemption. It was released digitally to PSN.

Holy shit! Glider! I actually downloaded an OSX emulator just to get the superior Pro version working because I played the shit out of that game in primary school but I've never had access to a mac since.

It's hosting multiple versions of Ultimate Doom, and has non-Ultimate Doom, Doom II, and Final Doom in there.

...are we sure this is legal?

Also, it's hosting D!Zone for some reason. How are you supposed to play that without Doom loaded in there somewhere? LOL.

The DMCA exception relates to permission to "crack" the game, not to distribute it (copyright still exists).

Archive.org gets away with it because rights owners weigh the PR costs and figure it's better to let it slide.
