It's going to almost certainly surpass WW if it maintains it's drops in China.Venom is going to outgross every DCEU film bar two (and its gonna be nipping right at the heels of WW).
Stop this timeline, I want to get off...

Important update:
I found the road safety advert thing ad it's a series of (maybe fake?) PSAs. It's glorious and 100% explains why* Venom is making all that money in China.
So let's celebrate with that classic banger, all together now "balabalahong, balabalahong"
*may not actually explain 100% of the how

The marketing for Venom in China is amazing.Have you already mentioned the "Venom is a great boyfriend" stuff?
The marketing in China is the best. Lucasfilm and WB, take notes.
China happened. Not only that but it has a reasonable chance to outgross Homecoming. The Spider-Man film that had Tony Stark plastered in nearly all marketing material.
How does this happen?

LOL This is so cute.
I wonder what Depp's salary is at this point.
Every time I check the Detective Pikachu trailer, it's up a couple million more. Right now at 43M.
I suspect it's got a moderate budget, too. So it's probably gonna be one of those hugely profitable movies next year.
Amazing that this movie will make almost as much as Homecoming. I'm pleased
There's a lot of damn CG in the trailer, that's for sure. I suspect the relative lack of star power might have saved them some money, since you really don't need one with an IP as big as this one, but I wonder by how much.Detective Pikachu is from Legendary, so I doubt it was all that cheap.

I'd be surprised if it was more than $150m.The incredibly dark lighting design sure as shit helped them save money because of how easy it would be to find cheap spaces and set dress them.
With all the CG I'm thinking just shy of 200M 160-180M? It's also possible that they aren't in the city a ton and it could be cheaper.
Yeah. That's the position I was coming from. The biggest name of the cast is Ryan Reynolds and he's just doing voice work as Det Pikachu.
The movie seems to be taking place on a small enough scale that they wouldn't need a huge budget for it.Fair. I'm probably way over estimating the cost of CGI these days. I could just see Nintendo being a Jon Hammond 'we spared no expense' (on what matters) kind of partner.

Double Toasted recently reviewed it and said the plot goes stupid around the second-half. I'm curious to see it just to know why they felt severely disappointed in it.

It having an equal or larger budget than Jurassic World's $160m (for example) just seems excessive.
I think $90m-$120m would be more appropriate.
Legendary spent $125M on Skyscraper. They aren't doing Pokemon for less.

Half the budget went to cgi'ing out The Rocks leg.
Love Harry Potter books and movies, could not care less about Fantastic Beasts.
