JL was bad, Solo was good. They share being box office failures but Solo was a mostly well liked movie unlike the walking meme that was JL.
Still trying to make fetch happen.

Oh snap. I keep forgetting that BP and IW both came out this year. I don't think anyone else is close to that, besides maybe Pratt (depending on JW2's final numbers).
If we're comparing receptions to JL, Solo is not getting memed to death.
I kind of want someone to spoiler Sicario 2 for me so I know why it's so bad and why people are complaining about its politics compared to the first one. I have heard people say timing, but nothing more.
Solo was bad also.
And Sicario 2 revealed Taylor Sheridan is a right wing hack.

Yeah, nah it isn't happening. Even a billion is on the high end.
A billion is the absolute floor for the Incredibles, and there's a strong chance that it passes it with ease. Some of the film's strongest markets are weeks away from opening.Yeah, nah it isn't happening. Even a billion is on the high end.
I see. That sounds not like the first one very much. The film opens with Muslim terrorists bombing an American grocery store. They suspect that the terrorists were smuggled into the US by the Mexican cartels based off of some prayer mats left at the border, and another dude blowing himself up as border police stop illegal immigrants trying to cross over.
It then transitions to Brolin's character (and team) killing a bunch of Somali pirates, and capturing the leader to figure out how the Muslims got to Mexico. Instead of torturing the leader for the info, Brolin drone strikes his family members one at a time.
Based on all this, the White House wants to justify a war on the Mexican cartels, but they don't want to appear to be the aggressors. So they come up with a plan to kidnap the daughter of a cartel boss, and blame it on a rival, starting a cartel war in Mexico that they can intervene in. Del Toro is called back to aid in this and the cartel war.
Only none of that happens after the kidnapping, because the film makes a series of very odd story choices that make the entire first half pretty pointless. Oh, and they randomly drop that the muslim terrorists were American citizens all along near the end. Maybe that should have been fact checked first.
The first Sicario was so mediocre...
the only unique thing about it was the table scene.. nothing more
Alpha is still in Aug right? Are Ant-Man and Mission Impossible really the last big releases for the summer?
That means there's opportunities to revisit a movie like Solo in the future for further discussion instead of the memes being the end all be all of a movie. And I thought JL didn't deserve the memes. It depends on if you think being completely forgotten by our collective social conscience is better than being memed.

Everything with Jon Bernthal is intense and great
Chadwick Boseman

Edit: Dammit. Why didn't the second page load?

Hey I'm actually curious to know how this turns out lol
I wonder about that. There doesn't appear to be any passion for Solo, one way or the other. In a couple months we'll get "lttp: Solo was fine" threads and the usual crummy YouTube videos about it. But as for ongoing discussion around it? I don't know. The biggest discussions around it are the poor box office and conspiracies about the state of lucasfilm. No one is really talking about the movie itself.
Well, he'd know, working for Marvel and all1. Few tentpole sequels offer up memorable epic images the way this one did.
All his flicks have been damning of the US government and thier failures.lol there is nothing right wing in the movie. The whole movie is about how the American government over reacts and ruins relationships out of fear.
Doctor Strange is brilliant, and so is most of his other films. Derrickson praises, I listen, and most often then not I agree. See his take on Watchmen - which I begrudgingly agree.Derrickson is also someone who compared Transformers fans to Trump voters, thinks he makes 'cinema' and not movies, and lashed out at film critics for criticizing superhero movies.
Being such a cornball might have been justified if he was even a halfway good director, instead he's most known for making fucking Doctor Strange lol
Aside from the bullshit Reddit humor that was crowbar'd in during reshoots, Doc Strange is one of the best in the MCU. The action and visuals are on point.

I really want another Batfleck movie. Was the only good part about BvS.

God, I hope Marvel Doesn't bring this guy back for the Doctor Strange sequel.

I honestly think he's coming back and they would be really stupid if they did not. DCEU fanboys were going crazy for him to taking over Batman before Matt Reeves came up in the picture. Scott Derrickson and Massawyrm are a match made in heaven for Doctor Strange.
No one in the industry gets this character and world as much as they do.
Why do you always have to hyperbolize everything? No one in the industry gets the character and world like Derrickson does? Really? Doctor Strange was more compelling in Ragnarok and IW than his own movie.I honestly think he's coming back and they would be really stupid if they did not. Yeah, Derrickson's movie was solid with nice visuals and a good third act, but there are better directors out there who could do that and more. Of the Phase 3 directors, Derrickson us the weakest
What exactly is 'brilliant' in Doctor Strange? I'll agree that it's nice to look at, but so is Batman v. Superman. It has nothing of substance going on with either its character or thematic work. The plot unfolds in about as generic a manner as you can expect from an origin story. There's no scene in it that compares to, say, even Loki's outburst against Odin in the first Thor. Tricking Dormammu was sort of neat at best.
Yeah, if there's one metric you can rely on when evaluating potential talent, it's the reception from DCEU fanboys.
The Russos and Waititi did Strange way better than Derrickson and they had like five minutes each to do him right, not an entire film lol. So literally everyone who's done Strange on-screen has done it better than him.
I'd say that it more than looks good. Derrickson and Massarwyrm have Doctor Strange's essence nailed and I'm hooked with it, and I'm not alone on that.
It's ironic coming from the dude that it's falling for the DCEU rhetoric that Doctor Strange was an awful boring film and that critics were totally bought to praise that film.
I agree that Russos and Waititi did an excellent job with a more experienced Strange. What you are missing here is that Derrickson and Massarwyrm REPORTEDLY worked very closely with the Russos and Taika, just like James Gunn did for Guardians. :)
