1. Dark Phoenix - I'm okay with X-Men being sent to the vault for awhile after this. This is a terrible movie.
2. Gemini Man - I enjoyed watching something in high frame rate, but I would have been bored out of my mind if it wasn't for that.
3. The Lion King - Taking one of Disney's best movies and sucking the life out of it was sad to watch.
4. Men in Black: International - This was bland and forgettable and I'm not sure why they bothered to bring back the franchise for a movie like this.
5. Godzilla: King of the Monsters - I remember really not liking this movie and being very disappointed, but that's about it.

I missed Gemini Man because it played in one 120fps theatre in my area, and by the time I wondered 'Is it really worth €21?' they stopped showing it in HFR

The actual worst movies of the year I'm sure are ones I didn't bother to see. Because unlike you clowns I don't whine about how shitty something is while simultaneously giving it 800 million dollars. But I want to participate in this hate.

Here's my counter: There's a difference between a "bad movie" and "something I didn't like". Because something you don't like is still well made, while a bad movie has many wrong stuff that qualifies as that.

Many people here are posting what they just "didn't like" even if it was good as "worst movie" and that's a problem, they're posting just to be part of it, even if they're wrong and way outside of what they should be posting.

As I said earlier being "well made" doesn't automatically make something good and exempt it from a worst movies list though. We need to get away from these completely arbitrary distinctions between objective and subjective quality when talking about whether we liked movies or not. Plus a movie can be just rotten to the core beyond its technical merits.

And it is still a well made movie considering that for every one well made movie there's 10 that are actually bad and deserve the spot on the list over the "well made" one. Also, most of the reasons why a "well made" movie belongs to a worst movie list are just laughable, either they get bored, or don't like a character, or don't end up liking the premise even if it's well executed.

There's people who hate some movies but let their ego aside to call them good.

It's nothing to do with ego, it's about acknowledging there is no objective formula for best/worst so it's all subjective. I could just as easily flip this back on yourself and say it's about you not wanting to see movies you like on people's worst list. There have been movies I loved listed here but I acknowledge "yep, for you it was likely awful".

Put it this way: Would it be egotistical and wrong of me to put something that got 26% on Rotten Tomatoes on my best of the year list? If so why?

1. Loqueesha
What the fuck is this? I mean seriously, what the fuck is this? A misguided, and horrifically executed concept, with the cheapest production quality ever. Any film that has a black woman tell a white man that he's a better black woman than she ever was, has seriously missed the mark.

2. Hellboy
A remake of the Del Toro film, only shitty and with a different ending. It's really bad, and when you aren't distracted by Harbour's floppy rubber arm, you're punched in the face with bad acting, bad jokes, and some of the worst cgi of this decade. Soulless.

3. The Lion King
Speaking of soulless. This film is just a carbon copy of the original script, only with lifeless photoreal animals, and worse acting. Completely misguided from a conceptual level.

4. 6 Underground
I know I'm supposed to turn my brain off... but I can't. I just... it's more Michael Bay bullshit, and no amount of self awareness is going to change the fact that the man has juvenile filmmaking sensibilities, and ZERO skill as a storyteller. Fuck him.

5. Cats
Again, flawed as a concept. It just doesn't play, and should have been delayed to give more time to fix visual errors, and the overall bizarre look. But that still wouldn't have fixed the fact that this film has no story. And if you aren't going to have a story, at least nail the musical numbers.

6. Playing With Fire
Tired, recycled, and boring. John Cena and the gang ham it up in this predictable as hell comedy film. Full of the expected bathroom humor, the only thing that sticks out is how blatant a commercial it is for My Little Pony. Seriously.

7. Hobbs & Shaw
"Genocide, shmenocide" retorts a cartoonishly evil Idris Elba. And honestly he's really the only thing I enjoyed in the film. The rest is just too ridiculous to care about, and this franchise is pretty damn close to hitting its breaking point.

8. Godzilla: King of the Monsters
Goddamn, how is this so boring? There's nothing here to care about. The monster action is poor, and the human characters are laughably stupid. This is really the best we can do guys? Kong v Zilla is doomed.

9. The Intruder
Want to watch Dennis Quaid embarrass himself, but also be the most likable character in the film, even though he's the villain? Seriously some of the worst leads I've ever seen in a film. Completely vapid, and I was actively rooting for the villain the entire film. Garbage, but almost so bad it's good.

10. The Fanatic
John Travolta acts his little heart out. But it can't save the film from poor dialogue, and a weak script that doesn't portray its admittedly interesting story in any kind of legitimately creepy way. Also Fred Durst advertises his own music in the film. Yikes!

1. Star Wars: Rise of The Skywalker: messy, bad editing, JJ still struggling know the difference between plot and narrative. Was a love letter to the trolls.
2. Zombieland: Double Tap: unnecessary addition to a well first movie. Just for the check.
2. Cats: wtf.
3. Godzilla: Kings of monsters: cool monsters bad everything else.
4. Dark Phoenix: I mean, they fuck it up the best MU characters.
5. The Lion King: No one asked for a vivid imagination of Mufasa's death.
6. It Chapter 2: good comedy, bad horror movie.
7. The Beach Bum: artsy and fartsy.
8. Rambo: USA propaganda at its finest.
9. The Curse of La Llorona: that is not what la llorona means. I grew up in a country where this myth is still relevant to the culture.
10.The joker: a movie that tries to hard to be irreverent and to push the buttons.

There were some great movies, but this year has to be remembered for all the botched remakes and sequels that came out this year. Some of these was some of the most painful movie going experiences in recent memory. I didn't actively go out to watch the worst of the worst (besides Cats) but these films hurt me all the same.

1. Hellboy
We all wanted a new Hellboy movie. What we got was a complete monkey's paw of a film. David Harbour did nothing but force feed the audience quip after soulless, unfunny quip. I don't like that sort of criticism of the Marvel movies, but it definitely applies here. The plot was downright boring and the CGI job was completely unprofessional, making even the simplest of mistakes. When 15 year old CGI outshines your own, you screwed up big time. This is directly the fault of the director and the pile of garbage of a script mixed with an uninspired production team.

2. Men In Black: International
This movie is exhibit A on how a terrible script can sink a movie no matter good the cast is. Watch Tessa Thompson and Chris Hemsworth go from fire forged friends in Thor Ragnarok to a sea of cringe-inducing dialogue. Agent T was little more than a walking Bond wannabe and Agent M just isn't that interesting of a character, especially after her introduction. Even the world building and equipment just didn't feel interesting. Rebecca Ferguson and that tiny alien were okay, but that's it. And no, complimenting Emma Thompson's jacket isn't enough to call her bisexual. You could have had her flirt with Rita, you did join with T because you thought he was hot.

3. Dark Phoenix
I knew this movie was going to be a stinker... but good lord. You made a film that made X-Men Origins: Wolverine look competent. This had frantic re-editting written all over. And it showed with how listless the actors, and makeup design was. What is with you guys and failing to write a decent Dark Phoenix saga? Apocalypse exposed how dated the Fox series is, and this one ended any interest in this convoluted world.
4. Cats
Oh dear. Went over to hate watch it, and it didn't disappoint. Actually, I would say that the plotsde more sense than the majority of those on that list. But you would have to get past the hideous suits, clunky CGI and haphazard editing to get any joy out of this movie. Music wise, there's the typical style the same director used in Les Miserable. Here, it hurt the movie far more, especially with Memory. I'm looking forward to the inevitable rifraff.

5. Glass
Thank you Glass for setting us up for the running theme of this year. The entire movie can be described as this. You got a decent film with a massive twist and a low-key great follow up and this is what you do with it? What a waste of hype and characters. Shyamalan, go put on your dunce cap and think about what you did.

6. Dumbo
I've said I preferred that Disney remake lesser known films to improve upon them. Pete's Dragon and The Jungle Book were great examples for how this can work. Dumbo is not. None of the new characters helped improve the story one bit, if they aren't downright dragging it down (I'm looking at you science girl). Circus exploitation is a good idea to explore, but the main villain is malicious to the point of stupidity. What a waste of Danny DeVito and Eva Green.

7. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker
My most disappointed movie of the year. Sigh.

I feel like I could write an entire thesis about what went wrong with this movie, but I'll keep it as brief as I can. A few posters describe this movie as tiring above all else, and I have to agree. It's tiring to go over all the plotholes, editing issues, character regressions, cheap fake outs, some of the worst dialogue in franchise history and sidelining of prominent characters while promoting others that drag down the film. Enough about blaming Rian Johnson giving you no room for closure or Carrie Fisher's death (and you know for goddamn sure she wouldn't have agree with what you did with Rose). The mediocre sales may attest to subverted expectations from Johnson, but this movie's shittiness is all on you JJ That and Disney hiring the writer that thought BvS and Justice League was quality writing. You just had to mirror Return of the Jedi the best you can and you ended up pleasing nobody. The only thing keeping you this down on the list were your actors making the most off a terrible script. And no, not just Adam Driver. They all tried their best to make your vision, but even they felt it was a horrible film. But it doesn't save the fact that this movie threatens to harm the franchise both financially and narratively. That and you may have exposed yourself as a fraudulent director. Enjoy being negatively compared to the freaking prequels (though Revenge of the Sith could arguably be a better film). Come back to me when you're done talking about Skywalkers or a RJ cut of this film. Oh and ban Ian Mcdiarmid from future movies. He's clearly a bad luck charm for these movies.

8. Charlie's Angels
Elizabeth Banks, I know how much you wanted to improve the nature of the franchise to make it better suited for women and I commend your efforts... but this movie fell flat. The trio of actors did their part well, but their characters just weren't that memorable. The worst aspects of this film was the tone. It tried to make itself both serious and silly and it ended up wrecking the film. It's a lot like the Baywatch movie in this regard. And sorry to say this, but unlike Spider-Man, no one was really asking for a Charlie's Angel's film, especially one of thos quality, even then, you whiffed your opportunity to properly incorporate earlier members of the squad into the film. That could have least sparked some interest into the film. The action scenes are decent, but not nearly enough to save this film.

9. The Lion King
Let me clear this out of the way, because these feelings have been simmering for the course of this year.

I hate you.

I hate how tried to ride the cocktails of the best movie of all time and couldn't even use that properly. I hate that you will likely be the second highest grossing film this year and arguably the highest grossing animated movie of all time. I hate that you made freaking Jamea Earl Jones give out his worst performance ever in the same damn movie.

Out of every movie I watched, even Cats, your movie was the most excruciating I have ever. From the moment they botched one of the hypest openings in animated history I knew I was in a world of hurt. Much of the dialogue was the same, but none of the voice actors could convey much emotion. Not that it matters because the CGI bleached all such things from the movie.

Let me just straight up say that Can You Feel The Love Tonight was done by two singers who didn't know they were in a duet. And no, that sorry excuse of a Be Prepared sequence was not satisfactory. You were better off cutting out the song like you were planning to before.

And despite all of this, I can only give you this placing because at the very least you managed to piggyback on main plot from the original. And it sickens me. You may be riding high with the cash Disney, but you only have so many films to convert until you're left with scraps. And by that time, no one would trust you with such a film, even if it's the greatest one of all time. This is a dangerous game your playing, one that could bring about the end of your current success.

10. Gemini Man

Behold, the death of actors saving bad movies. At the very least, you can't rely on Will Smith saving movies anymore. Sure, there were some innovating action sequences, but the acting was just awful. Also, we lay witness to the most incompetent secret organization of the year who didn't bother to let their ace retire in peace. Oh, he found about what you were doing? Let's send the clone out. Nothing can go wrong with that! It's just mind-boggling stupidity that I can't stand in this age of 2019.

Andcthey technically had a third clone in their back pocket and still failed. Could they have at least gone with the other enhanced soldiers first, that clone and then the current one?

There's a few dishonorable mentions I would like to note. Aladdin, the only reason you're not on this list is because too many other films crapped the bed worse. Also your songs were better and Will Smith at least tried to salvage the film. That Jafar actor though is inexcusable and you are still responsible for souring my views on live-action Disney.

Anna... I don't know what I expected. I guess I was hoping someone would be able to replica the magic John Wick created. Yet Anna could manage to replicate counterpart Atomic Blonde, Hotel Artemis or even Red Sparrow. The action is decent, but the plot is uninteresting and downright confusing with its editing. Not to mention the problematic use of a vulnerable lead female character by a creepy director.

Battle Angel Alita... was better than I thought it would be and the CGI/battle scenes were decent, but the movie was still hurt with bad plotting (also I will never like endings with no closure)

Ad Astra... you were the chosen one dammit! You were supposed to continue the streak of great realistic sci-fi films that began with Gravity. The animation is as nice as expected, but everything was boring. The actors were wasted with either poor performances that failed to convey the story or straight up useless roles. The protagonist becomes downright unlikable being responsible for multiple screwups in the film. And that final sequence... oof. Good effects and a good opening sequence just barely keeps you off the list.

Godzilla, you were told your human elements were dragging down the first film. What do you do? You double down by adding even more infuriating human elements. Your kaiju fight scenes spare you from being on this list.

Brightburn, we all thought we were going to get the deconstruction of superhero movies the audience was yearning for. Instead, we get an overly simplistic motivation and both sides acting like a bunch of idiots. Also, at some point you have to wonder if the gore porn is a bit much.

...and that's what I have. I can see a lot of potential disasters on the horizon., notable Mulan, Godzilla vs Kong, Free Guy, The Croods 2, Morbius, Bloodsport, New Mutants and Doolittle .

You can't be serious? He's one of the best things about the SW films he's in, one of the best actors in the franchise.
Average RT of episodic SW movies with Ian McDiarmid*: 67.2%
Average RT of episodic SW movies without Ian McDiarmid: 92.75%

It's 2020. It's hard to see enough bad movies to fill out a list, unless you purposely go out of your way to watch crap. High Life is the only movie I saw this year that comes to mind as actually being bad.

Dumbo-Such a forgettable movie from Tim Burton. He can do soo much better than this if he really wanted too.
Lion King-Seems like a completely pointles movie. Like why not at least try something new instead of remaking the exact same movie, but in CGI.

1. Loqueesha - A movie so baffling in its premise that people actually doubted that it really existed. It arrived to a resounding "What?!" and left quietly. A movie directed by, written by, and starring a white dude pretending to be a black woman named Loqueesha. I shouldn't need to say more.

2. Playmobil The Movie - You don't become one of the worst grossing films of all time and not make the list for worst films of the year. I guess someone saw the LEGO movie and said "This is our time!" (Narrator: It wasn't their time). Most people didn't even know it came out when it bombed

3. Black Christmas - This seems like a movie that the far right would EXPECT the left to make. It attempts to do commentary on toxic masculinity and rape culture in college life and fails spectacularly (evil rape oil from a ghost statue is involved). It's more interested in its message than being a movie, and the movie parts are...baffling, to say the least. It's also got virtually nothing to do with Black Christmas. But hey, at least there's no incest so it's got that going for it.

4. The Gallows: Act 2 - I'm just sorta baffled by this one. I don't understand why the first film, as bad as it was, warranted a sequel. Must've made bank. This filmed received no marketing in the slightest. The only reason I knew it existed was because I saw it on a movie chart of upcoming films. I'm sorry but a noose just does not make an effective weapon for a ghost. What are you, the Phantom of the Opera?

5. Last Christmas - I had already written this one off as being a run of the mill Hallmark film about finding love again for the holidays. When someone told me that there was a twist I guessed it immediately, but was met with a double twist that was even worse.

6. Dark Phoenix - It didn't work the first time, it still doesn't work, and it's never going to work. Leave the Phoenix saga the fuck alone. This was a poor man's Captain Marvel, and Captain Marvel wasn't even that great to begin with.

7. Cats - If you have to patch your film you fucked up. This movie seems to be more famous for how many people it scarred for life than anything else

Yeah. That's almost the entire thread. But people don't usually spend money on awful movies so they just list what "kind of disappointed them" and call it "a bad movie".

Though credit to zbeat and bmZ, can't really argue with those picks.

I'm struggling to think of bad movies I saw this year. I skipped Rambo and MiB after hearing they sucked. RoS was messy but it wasn't bad. Captain Marvel was a little middling but it was still decent. Lion King was a beautifully made but pointless endeavor that lacked the charm of the original ...but it still wasn't that bad.

Glass.

I'm a pretty forgiving guy, and I like bad movies, so you have to be pretty shitty AND uninteresting AND boring for me to call you the worst.

1. Pet Semetary - One of the worst horror remakes ever and big-budget horror films of the decade. The only decent thing was them nailing the atmosphere. Outside of that, not a damn thing worked in this movie, horribly acted, dumb decisions, and laughably stupid writing.

2. Midsommar - It had wonderful cinematography, a great first 10 minutes, nice practical effects, and Florench Pugh was good. Otherwise, I found it completely boring, too long, and filled with dumb side characters.

3. Rambo: Last Blood - Nothing happens in the first hour, and the last 20 minutes felt like I was watching a bad mix between Saw and a Friday the 13th movie. This also had no reason to be made as Rambo 4's final scene finished the franchise on a perfect note.

4. Hellboy - How do you fuck up Hellboy this badly?

5. Rise of Skywalker - If TLJ was a boring mess that made me not care what happens in Ep. 9, then TROS made me glad to be finally done with this saga. While it was watchable and mostly entertaining, it was so sloppily put together and filled with plot holes to the point that I just gave up on it halfway through. It's also the only Star Wars movie outside of AoTC where I didn't give a damn about the fate of any of the main characters not named Chewbacca.

6. Godzilla: King of the Monsters - Bad acting, stupid characters, and mediocre monster fights. This felt like Roland Emmerich doing another Godzilla movie with even worse characters.

7. Zombieland: Double Tap - We really didn't need another Zombieland movie, and this one was just boring, lacking any real main plot. It also tried way too hard to be funny, where the first one felt more naturally comedic.

I only saw five films that I genuinely thought were bad this year.

1. Velvet Buzzsaw: Shockingly bad given how good Nightcrawler was.
2. Brightburn: Cheap scares and laughable characters.
3. Lion King: It was emotionless and boring.
4. IT Chapter 2: Holy fuck is it long and holy fuck is it boring.
5. Glass: Just a terrible way to end a solid trilogy.

I'm just going to list the bottom ten of my running list of 2019 films ranked. Not all of these are bad, but they are the worst things I saw!
  1. The Haunting of Sharon Tate ---------- Poor performances all around, an utterly inscrutable premise, and in extremely poor taste.
  2. Joker ---------- The most I've ever wanted to walk out of a theater. I can't remember the last time such a dumb film thought it was so smart.
  3. Little Monsters ---------- It goes out of its way to be edgy. Want to hear 90 minutes of fat-shaming and misogyny? This is your flick!
  4. Zombieland: Double Tap ---------- I got second-hand embarrassment in this film... or maybe it was just an extremely extended release of first-hand embarrassment as realized that this brand of corniness used to be 100% my shit.
  5. Midsommar ---------- Who told Ari Aster that he'd earned the right to waste TWO AND A HALF HOURS of my time with his listless pastel meandering? It's better than Hereditary, but that's not saying much.
  6. Avengers: Endgame ---------- It's a mess.
  7. Captain Marvel ---------- Another film that thought it was more important than it was. The "I'm Just a Girl" scene is really emblematic of the table scraps we get in terms of representation from mega-corporations. Brie is still dope though.
  8. Between Two Ferns: The Movie ---------- Oh boy, this brand of humor hasn't aged well!
  9. Pokemon: Detective Pikachu ---------- I liked it! I cried! It still wasn't anything spectacular, but it was fun!
  10. Jojo Rabbit ---------- I'm not fundamentally opposed to the idea of making a comedy relating to Hitler/the Holocaust, as wicked as that concept is on its face, but you have to actually make it funny. They forgot to do that. Scarlett Johansson is the only shining light here.

1. US - I don't care what anyone thinks this movie is a peice of shit. The premise is really dumb plus it's got all the tropes let them be caught then let them go so it's a game. That's not going to backfire. Plus the ending is shit.
2. Hellboy- love hellboy and the two previous movies, this was horrible. You can tell the directors vision was shattered by others decisions. Awful.
3. Velvet Buzzsaw - really boring and all the characters are unlikable plus the actual deaths were lame expect for one.
4. 6 underground - this movie was bad.... like really bad... it had some cool moments and the second half is better but it feels like half a movie
5. Hobbs and shaw- this movie was dumb in do many ways... its forgettable but then when I'm reminded I saw this movie I get angry wasting money on it.

I make it a point to actively avoid bad films, and try my best to just focus on films I would enjoy. So here's from what I watched throughout the year.

1. 6 Underground - Impressively bad that I couldn't make it past the first 20 minute ridiculously repetitive action sequence. Ryan Reynolds can't save this.

2. The Souvenir - This film is so aimless and transient in the pacing department that it felt like a chore to witness a toxic relationship between a sweet and overly forgiving, young filmmaker and a rich, pretentious, freeloading heroin addict. The cinematography, beyond the 16mm look, is so unengaging that my attention drifted during the dialogue which was usually sleep-worthy in itself. Which is a shame after reading that Joanna Hogg's style is influenced by Ozu. The only thing that's novel for this story is it involves a British film school rather than American ones that have been examined, criticised, and parodied to death. Credit to the production design to recreate the late 70s-early 80s vibes though.

Honor Swinton Byrne is good here, her Julie is sweet, loving, and attentive while Tom Burke's Anthony is the complete opposite but throughout it's frustrating to see events play out as expected and leaving me bewildered what she sees in him. He leaves the house for the whole day after begging £10 from her several times, only cares about her in a superficial manner by buying her lingerie to wear or taking her from London to Venice on a train ride that costs £3000+, and just sits around in high-end jackets mumbling pretentious ramblings about life to Julie in restaurants that seem to look like they're in a palace. His addiction isn't explored, his Foreign Office job where he apparently deals with terrorism isn't explored, his personality isn't explored, and he's not even that interesting to earn the air of mystery.

The only characters who breath any life in this film are the cameos from Richard Ayoade and Tilda Swinton, but even as Tilda playing Julie's mom, that relationship isn't explored. I'm always up to bat for British filmmakers and women of which there aren't many, but couldn't connect to much here. The class and white privilege is hinted at in moments but isn't justified or examined, so at the end of the day, it seems like a waste of time with rich white folks lazing around and having not much meaningful to say.

3. Star Wars: Rise Of The Skywalker -
This film is just so dumb in so many aspects from plot revelations to repetitive pacing. It's just constant plot, going from one place to another, with barely any downtime for reflection, introspection, or character work. Finn in particular is short-changed and reduced to being a hype man. Can totally understand John Boyega's frustrations.

The action sequences are forgettable outside of a rare visually interesting rainy fight on top of an abandoned rig in the middle of otherworldly gigantic waves (reminded me of Interstellar). Why the film bothered to have half an hour and more after that climatic fight to follow with a big space battle is any editor's guess. Props still go to the retro style production design by Rick Carter and Kevin Jenkins, owing to Norman Reynolds and Ralph McQuarrie. However, because the action is just so predictable and lifeless, it made me rewatch the Genndy Tartakovsky Clone Wars cartoon.

The homage, nostalgia pandering, and lack of creativity is parodic even down to the final shot being a copy from the original trilogy. People thought A Force Awakens rehashed a lot of the first film, but this goes the extra mile. It's a wincing masturbatory exercise.

4. Avengers: Endgame - If the first hour's elegiac tone kept throughout, this era ender of superhero films could be something worth talking about, but then it becomes a silly time heist film with more forgettably shot, choreographed, and color-graded battles.

1. The Lion King
2. Pokémon: Detective Pikachu
3. Terminator: Dark Fate
4. Zombieland: Double Tap

The Lion King easily takes the top spot for me, wish I could erase that shit from my memory.
Detective Pikachu was a massive unfunny waste of time.
Terminator just felt like a T2 rehash, except inferior in pretty much every way.
Zombieland was really disappointing, love the first one, but the second one is not only rehashing the same jokes, but trying too hard to be funny.

I haven't watched Joker yet, but I wouldn't be surprised if it slotted into this list after I watch it.

I haven't seen a lot of films this 2019 but the worst is definitely Terminator Dark Fate with Frozen 2 following very close.
