I think you'd have to go back to the beginning years of last gen for an actual bad Xbox showcase. Since 2018 they've all been good to great imo.

The one leap we've (mostly me :D ) made is that Hibiki = John Johanas' next game. We know Tango has another game in developer from Johanas and we know it's non-horror. I've just been running with the assumption that John's game is most likely Hibiki because it was the other Tango Gameworks game in the Nvidia leak.
Citizen Sleeper is pretty incredible. Not exactly wholesome as people understand it today, but it has absolutely beatiful moments.

I do remember Mikami talking to Phil in that TGS video where he mentioned there was also work on a smaller game from a new director so it could be that. It could be the Johanas project though as he did like the Xbox/Bethesda event tweet, but he didn't do the 👀 thing.

I might be way off the mark, but every time I hear "Southern Gothic" it makes me think of the mid-nineties TV show, American Gothic.
It also makes me think of the vampire novel Lost Souls, but somehow I doubt that's what Compulsion is going for.
