Have you played since the Lifeblood update? He got significantly buffed and does 2 masks of damage per hit now

I just did a full play through but i didnt know about him being buffed. I didnt really notice he was stronger maybe i just got lucky and annihilated him too quickly to see what he was all about.

wait.. why is Traitor lord giving people trouble?

It's the 2 points of damage per hit that ultimately do me in. If that shit did 1 point, he'd be simple.

Anyways, I just killed him directly after he killed me. I equipped the bugs for the first time to try them out and then he killed me but I guess one of my bugs lunged at him as I died. I spawned on the bench and saw the "executioner" message pop up.

That's one way to do it, I guess

Hollow Knight is the cutest game I've played all year and I played Kirby Star Allies. Aww the map seller's having a nap. Awww the grubs. Awwww the bank owner beatle!

Finally fully upgraded my nail and my charm slots. Time to work on a nice build.

Yeah, it's pretty cute!
Aww a delicate flower!
Aww a little happy miner friend!
Aww a happy little repair bug!

Have the
Mantis Claw, Crystal Heart and Monarch Wings
and still have no idea where to go. This game is so damn obtuse at times.

Holy fucking shit.

I beat the final boss after like 30 tries and 3 days.

Jesus fucking Christ.

On the final health mask too, with the lasers and shit.

That was intense.

Ok, after messing up the DLC optional boss on switch, I reinstalled on steam and found a save file ready to fight NKG. Wow, best boss in the game hands down. Amazing in every way. I still think GKZ 10 was harder, but this is probably harder than White Defender 5. If this is what we can expect in Gods and Glory, I can't wait!

Because he's the only boss that's actually poorly designed. Unlike say, Nightmare King Grimm who's easily the hardest boss in the game, but every loss felt like it was MY fault, and not the game fucking me over.

Seconded. It feels like the devs decided he wasn't hard enough so they just had him do double damage.

It's the only bad boss in the game.

Managed to find and kill eight different bosses today.

Nosk, Galien, Flukemarm, Dung Defender, Markoth, Hornet 2, Uumuu and Hive Knight

Speaks a lot to this game's quality that I can die as many times as I did and not get so fed up that I turn the game off, because I get frustrated pretty easily. I definitely fear reaching the likes of NKG and other bosses that seem to give everyone a hard time, though.

I don't think he is badly designed. He is the fastest boss of the game and it's one of the few the have absolutely no opening for healing. Until him I divided my pool with both heal and spell, he was the first that made me change my strategy.

I beated him using the honey + blue health charm and focusing on attacking and ignoring my health completely. It only took one try with that new strategy.

Btw, any charm combo for the final fools trial? This is getting old fast.

I'm more surprised about the Watcher Knight troubles. On release that was probably one of the least memorable (or at least talked about) bosses in the game, and now all of a sudden it's a major stumbling block. Did they get stealth-buffed?

Depends on your playstyle, but I'd emphasize healing with Quick Focus and maybe Shape of Unn. I played melee so I used Quick Slash and Mark of Pride, but suffered in the parts where spellcasting was best.

As for Traitor Lord, the fact that he does double damage and never lets you heal is part of the problem. NKG has clear safe zones where you can recover, but not this jerk.

Beat
Hornet 2
and
Lukemarm
today. Feels good man. Think I'll go seek out optional bosses to see who I've missed. Nosk was still the easiest boss yet for me even with the buff I heard they added.

If the game didn't have builds around that, then I agree, but I think the fact that this particular boss pushes most out of the comfort zone is something I like.

Then again, I had the tools for that battle. Other might not have, so you kinda have a point.

Since this was one of the last bosses I fought, it was very hard, but I loved it.

Traitor Lord is also one of the few battles you can have aid in which actually helps with the no time to heal problem if you didn't want to swap charms.

I wouldn't know but even as a distraction it is probably useful to give you some breathing space which I see as one of the major complaints.

those pickaxe tossing Husk Miners in Crystal Peak are too cute, thinking they can hurt me with those.

Do I need to have the Monarch Wings to progress in this place, I see a lot of top areas I cannot reach otherwise I'm guessing, where canI get this ability?

If you're feeling experimental and end up hitting that dead end at the top-right of the caves, you can pogo off a miners axe to get up to the ledge. Later in the cave, you'll want to get a bat to shoot that crystal stuff at the wall so you can pogo off that as well.

I'll try that, just came over me that I am able to do so haha! Love this game

wait.. why is Traitor lord giving people trouble?

I assume people are just not using the dash to go through him, you can only face the boss after getting the shade cloak and there's a reason for that. His attack timings match the dash reset perfectly, a easy way of doing it is using charged attacks (nailmaster glory charm helps), dash through him -> charged attack on his back -> dash through him -> repeat. The sharp shadow charm is also good since it's a free hit every dash.

I didn't try using pogo on him since he jumps sometimes so I assume that might hit you if you are right above his head, but it might be viable too.

He has two new attacks that can be annoying, but one pattern I noticed is that after he sends a tornado at you he usually attacks immediately after so after dashing through the tornado you should always jump after.

Watcher Knights is another boss people usualy complain but in that case I just think they are facing them too soon instead of exploring other areas. Together they have a shit ton of health (around 1300 iirc), that's dream boss levels of health, if your damage output isn't on a good level it will take a while. Since the fight might not give you some good openings to heal I can see where the struggle is coming from.

these posts on constant repeat pretty much sum up the thread, lol

yet I barely see anyone complaining about colloseum of fools part trois, the actual hardest part!
Still have to try that one , that's why ;p Anyway, I beat the part I was talking about, it was the last stretch
btw, I also beat the
hollow knight, compared to a lot of the optional bosses, it was super easy. with quick slash and the fact that he likes to stand still a lot, I made short work of it. The one boss I don't think I'll ever beat is the Failed Chanpion, that fight is too intense.

So I'm doing the Trial of the Fool, and I'm looking for good charm builds. Any advice? Im thinking of going for a Soul-centric build with a lot of healing and spells - Grubsong, Shaman Stone, Quick Focus, Thorns of Agony, Soul Catcher.

I want to hear other cool builds.

I used all the charms to make my Nail range longer and to use Nail arts faster. Upgraded my nail to the max so I could One shot most of the annoying enemies.

So do you get anything at max completion rate or is it just for bragging? (Or I guess you get to have every item to get to that per cent..)

I found Watcher Knights were ok, Traitor Lord just fucked my shit. I think I got there too soon anyway but eventually beat him after a ton of tries.

I'm on
Nightmare Grimm
then the
remaining dream content (I have 1500 essence)
and I should be fully complete after that. It will be good to get a few days buffer before Octopath releases

Told myself I was going to finally move on beyond Greenpath and Forgotten Crossroads, but then I came across the charm seller. Spent some time getting money and buying all the charms and a new notch. I did mosey on into Crystal Peak for a little bit, but didn't go deep into it. Tomorrow for sure. It's so easy to lose track of time playing this.

Played for two hours today for a total of 13 hours and 8 minutes. Worked my way through
City of Tears
finding a hallownest seal and journal along the way. Also came across some shop that purchased a journal off of me. Hope I didn't need them for later. Working my way upward, I finally found Cornifer. Once I got to him, I went back down two floors and made my way east, past the elevator and got to a place called
Soul Sanctum
Fought a bunch of spell-casters, found some device that says something about using full focus and whether it's possible, ignored it for now. Continued upward and found the Spell Twister charm which I found very useful later on. Went and headed west and found a boss
Soul Master
which I beat on my second try. It was insane, I switched up my charms so I had Thorns of Agony and Dreamshield. He got me down to one health left on the second phase, and when I beat that, the ceiling collapsed. Thinking I beat him, I exhaled a sigh of relief, that was until he started teleporting dive-bombing me. I very carefully dodged his attacks not being to hasty, letting Dreamshield do most of the work where I eventually got the final slash in by dashing under him when he was throwing projectiles at me and slashing him from below. Upon beating him I got a new ability
Desolate Dive
which is awesome. So much fun to use. I went back to where Cornifer was and headed west jumping on platforms to find more essence as well as a stag station not too far from there. I went back to Dirtmouth where the girl I saved in
Fungal Wastes
had a mask shard waiting for me. How sweet of her. I had 3200 geo that I wanted to spend, so I went to the bottom corner of Forgotten Paths with the plump charm bug and bought Quick Focus and Lifeblood Heart charm. Also bought two vessel fragments from her. I then remembered about some coffin in
Resting Grounds
so I went back there and used my new ability. A gurgling disgusting noise from a bug and a creepy area waited for me, thankfully it was a very short hallway. Came out to an elevator and went down. Navigated downward after failing to beat some locked area with a bunch of sword, spear-wielding dudes and flyers. Dropped me into
King's Station
Decided to explore later so I went west and came out again to
City of Tears
with some big shield and lance-wielding bugs. Dispatched them and found a door which I used my simple key on, turns out it was a
Pleasure House
with a bench and hot spring. I accidently turned her into essence which I felt bad about since she didn't do anything but she gave me 40 so I'm only 30 away (70 total) for my nail upgrade. Explored the city more and opened the gate that was locked on the right when you first get there. Went back to the bench and decided to call it a night.
Gosh there is so much to do in this game and I haven't even found the main bosses I presume that are on the map.

Broken Vessel is just straight toying with me. I decided to just leave the area and try again later. Now I've got a second nail upgrade (only had one during my first attempt), and have gotten a few new Charms.

Any charm recommendations for this boss? (I have 6 notches). Also, is this recommended with 2 Nail upgrades or are 3-4 upgrades the "intended" for this fight?

Depends on what's giving you trouble.

If it's the Broken Vessel itself, it has longer reach than you but Mark of Pride and/or Longnail can help you match it.

If it's the adds it summons, Spore Shroom or Defender's Crest can help a lot, since they have very little health. The former also lets you heal and destroy them at the same time, as well as being more likely to hurt the Broken Vessel itself.

Beat the game today with 64% completion in just under 25 hours.

I just beat the game with a very similar time and completion. I checked some guides after beating the final boss and yeah, it's crazy how much content this game has.

It's a great game, but I think I'm done for now. I tried one of the optional bosses
the Dream version of the False Knight
and got stomped. There was already a couple bosses that were right on the edge of fun frustrating to me, and it looked like trying to do the endgame stuff wasn't going to be very enjoyable. I watched videos of some of the harder bosses and they look ridiculous.

That said I know I'll go back and play through this again at some point. It's still really fresh in my mind and I haven't played a Metroid game in years, but right now I'd say I like it more than any 2D Metroid, and I consider Super one of my favorite games. Besides the controls and bosses being great the art style and atmosphere really click for me. I love all of the character designs, and I love how the game can be more light-hearted at times despite being very heavily influence by Dark Souls. DS has some characters that have sort of taken on a sillier tone after becoming memes, but the actual games are extremely bleak. If you haven't seen a bunch of goofy GIFs about the Sunbro, Solaire comes across as creepy and deranged. All of HK's NPCs are genuinely charming. Seeing
Conifer asleep in his house
at the end was a great moment.

Hopefully I'll be replaying it later this year, I was pretty excited to see there's DLC planned that adds a new playable character.

The Trial of Fools is the biggest difficulty spike in this game since the Watcher Knights. Like holy shit this is a marathon gauntlet of really brutal challenges. I'm struggling hard with this for 5 hours - I don't even know what charms to do.

Deepnest never fucking ends

I found it's a good area to explore in chunks. I did on side, moved on to other areas and when I returned I looked at the map and did another part. Then later some more when I noticed there were still dead ends on the map. It is definitely the biggest area together with City of Tears though.

I run nailmasters glory with dashmaster sharpshadow and grubsong. charge slash and then dashing through them kills mostly everything.
