After reading the whole thing, damn am I excited. Dreaming City sounds so cool. And thank god they seemingly want to move away from Milestone based progression.

I saw a clip of that new exotic that was mentioned. It looks nutty. Looks like a Borderlands gun (in a good way).

Timestamped for the clip of the exotic being hipfired.

Yeah, after getting the 100$ stick up for the ultra deluxe good boy edition and the "finger guns emote," I'm pretty adverse to spending more money. Seems a lot of people in this thread are excited, and Destiny 2 is admittedly a satisfying game, but I don't think I can pay the fun tax again.

i mean with destony 1 i bought it at launch, hated it but held onto the disc. i ended up buying the taken king which came with the previous 2 expansions for £15 or something so wasn't too unhappy

although thanks to sony online purchase stupidity i was going to buy the digital version but coulodn;t as i had bought expansion packs and there was no way to buy the digital version and use instead of the disc disc.

All of this sounds amazing. Will definitely be picking up Forsaken and sticking to Destiny 2 over Anthem / Division 2.

I like destiny as is but always love when they add new things. New class nodes look great that hunter void one looks to be the answer to people hating void super in pvp. The arc/solar ones look great as well. Anything to break up the you must use 3 exotics armor thing is awesome.

They should definitely include the previous 2 dlc's (warmind and osirirs) with the purchase of forsaken! Or create a cheaper bundle at least.

I already have the DLC, so not a big issue for me personally. Gonna hold of and not get it day 1; see how the game is supported trough out the rest of the year. Warmind and osiris were average at best.

Although I know i'm weak and may just cave. Half the fun of destiny 2 was being there since day 1.

Scott Taylor said, "On the subclasses right now there are two diamonds on the right at the top and bottom of the screen. We're essentially inserting a third one. We'll probably deliver three on day one, and have the others take a little bit longer than players are used to. imagine one or two weeks before you can even earn the next batch. They won't all be available on day one."

What does this mean? The new super trees won't be fully available until a few weeks after launch?

There will be a bundle of the first year content and Forsaken. Just like Taken King.

Eh. It's not uncommon for big expansion to be planned and worked on before the main game even launches. Typically a game would be feature complete about 2-3 months before release so the majority of the dev team can move on.

They already announced they will have SKUs to include the previous DLCs more closer to release date.
Probably a full package of 60$ for everything and without the Annual Pass.

They'd better implement Nightfall matchmaking.

People can discuss Raid matchmaking all they like, but pretty much any other activity in the game should have optional matchmaking and it's very silly that it doesn't at this point.

This. Raid matchmaking would overall be a disaster. Now, I'm not against having it added to old Raids later. For example, by the time Rise of Iron released, there was really no reason for Crota's End on Normal not to have matchmaking. And there is probably an argument to be had for Raid Lairs a few months after they launch.

But overall, the way to do it is an LFG system. Available from the Launch screen of specific activities: Raids and Trials. Make a Fireteam with specific details (must be ____ Power Level, game must detect a mic, etc) that people can join or you can go through a list, page by page, of people looking for people so you can join. You would then enter the in-game voice chat immediately if it's available. This should also be an option for the Launch screen when you go to simply Patrol a planet, which would help players who are doing specific quests or activities like Escalation Protocol.

Everything else, however, needs optional matchmaking. It would always be on by default unless you turn it off via a toggle on the Launch screen prior to entering the activity. Vanguard Strikes, Heroic Strikes, Normal and Prestige NIghtfall, Daily Heroic Missions, any Prison of Elders/Challenge of Elders-type activity, etc.

Seriously, if they're bringing back Daily Heroic Missions, there is absolutely no reason why it shouldn't have matchmaking. I would have made it a point to do it every day during D1 just for fun if I could quickly team up with other players. The game needs to be brought up to speed with the most basic of social features that most other games like it already have.

Whoa whoa.
Wait, are you serious?
I thought Warmind had won you over once again.

I did 2 missions in Warmind, completely bored me out of my fucking mind
DLC 2 should've been called Fuckmind, cause the DLC alone showed that Bungie ain't learn shit, just keep moving forward to next paid DLC to screw over the base, while throwing bandaids at gaping wounds

I'm curious what you were looking for.

I wanted this series to evolve

It ain't happening till 3 it looks like when it's a clean slate, but all this patchwork isn't going to be resoundingly bring a huge core of the fan base that's been scorned

Theres so many things I can list that this game half-assed and are forgotten for the new hotness

I'm not dropping $40 again on broken ass promises and then $30 for seasonal updates till next year

Listen I'm hardcore of the hardcore, by 1 month I had amassed roughly 500+ play hours in this freaking game. I lived, breathed this franchise.

Over time the teams hubris caught up to them and even I as Defender, saw the writing on the wall

Some players will enjoy the new stuff, more power to them
I've lost interest, took 4 years, but Destiny as a whole has lost me.

Money I save will go to other titles

Right now Paladins has me PvP wise due to its Battlepass and I'm running through my huge backlog for the summer

Most likely only game interesting me are Spider-Man, Anthem and maybe another GaaS or Coop that takes up my time

I've learned my lesson, I gave them time to fix their shit, all I see is a new coat of paint, on old problems that will continue

Yeah, but if we're to believe them, their plan was to turn Destiny 2 into a casual-ified turd of a game, which they did with the release of D2. Around October-December they knew it was a complete failure of a plan. If what you're saying is true, the expansion would have been initiated as a continuation of what D2 was released as. I dont buy it. I think the D2 we got was the end result of them not having enough time to complete D2 the way they intended due to the game essentially being restarted a year or so prior to release (according to Kotaku).

You know what I'll probably wait until Destiny 3 comes out to play more D2. I mean I only have the base game so jumping in at Forsaken would be a bit pricey.

Given what they did between D2 and D1, D3 has a good chance of being a huge disappointment moreso than Forsaken could ever be.

Broad details sound fine, but the execution could be anything. No clue how people still give Bungie the benefit of the doubt after half a decade of bait and switching with the franchise.

Dreaming City sounds interesting, but it's hard to have high expectations for it when Bungie's idea of live events are just a pair of banners in the Tower and slightly different looking tokens to collect.

They need to drop all the time gating nonsense and actually make content. Mods and weapon perks could be promising, but they've made basically no progress on improvements in those areas. Why get excited for random rolls when most of the perks are garbage?

Curious to see what actually winds up coming out when this releases.

TBH the main thing keeping me from advocating more classes is the fact that you can't just have one character and switch between classes interchangeably based on trying shit out as you please or depending on what your fireteam needs. If you want to play all three classes you gotta grind three times over, and that's bullshit. Fix that problem and that's when I'll absolutely be begging for more classes, lore be damned.

- Sword, Rocket, Drum-based Grenade Launcher, Linear Fusion are assigned to Power Slot, you can't equip them on Energy/Kinetic Slot.
So you can't sword your way through everything.

What is the reasoning behind separating single-shot grenade launchers from the rest? Unless they plan on bringing magazine-fed grenade launchers up to the same amount of damage and AOE as them - but even then, they'd be a bit underpowered as power weapons.
So you can't sword your way through everything.
To be fair, they could just do like what they did with Fighting Lion originally - make it go into a nonstandard ammo type. Why not put in an exotic lightsaber that uses energy ammo at this point?

I need to find these people who want random rolls. I want to look into their eyes.

You rang?

Bungie needs to put the excitement back in random engram drops out in the wild across a multitude of activities and random rolls is a start to that (well, really just a return as it was their biggest mistake to get rid of them in the first place).

As we stand here today all engrams (outside of Milestones for infusion fodder if you need it) in Destiny 2 are useless and couldn't be more boring as folks who play regularly have seen the same drops over and over.

I'm not looking for a grind (although I don't mind it to a degree) but rather variety and possibility.

Yeah, that is epically stupid. Especially given that Bungie thought so little of the lore that they didn't even bother to put it in the original game. Gameplay/Options >>>backstory.

I truly never understood this but you and I seem to be in the minority of the community so it's hard to argue.

I think random rolls are terrible. The solution, to me, is having more unique perks that are specific to more guns. Better perks, better gun designs. I have always hated random rolls.

While they will still be consumable, they are basically fixing the issue in the update that is coming along with Forsaken (free to all players, you don't need the expansion).

They are adding a Collection feature, which is an expanded version of D1's kiosks. It tracks every single weapon, armor piece, Sparrow, ship, Ghost and shader. Even common and uncommon loot. Once you hold a shader, it will be available to get again from this Collection whenever you want. (It will likely cost a little bit of Glimmer or Silver Dust but it shouldn't be a problem. The main issue has been that the shaders aren't something we can grab whenever we want.)

I agree that they shouldn't be consumable at all but this does fix the main problem.

I still think they should go back and make Guided Games work. Any good group of 4 that's on the same page can guide 2 reasonably skilled randos through the game. Obviously, raiding guilds aren't that interested in adding randos when they can just add another 2 members they're sure will be good. So they need some incentive to do it.

I was shocked when Guided Games launched without any sort of incentive. I mean - there wasn't even cosmetics! There's not even a ship or an emblem stating how many guided games you completed or anything. There was just no reason to do it other than the goodness of your own heart, so no one did it, and because everyone knew no one did it no one bothers to queue up and it takes an hour just to find a game.

They need to give rewards with teeth, which is easier now that they've added some grind back into the game. Right now I'm thinking everyone who participates in a guided game should get a random exotic masterwork drop (or maybe use a currency that makes it so you need to raid twice or three times, I don't know how the numbers will work out). There should definitely be exclusive cosmetics, an awesome shader you can't get anywhere else, and maybe some kind of halo effect like prestige nightfall gives you. They should have leaderboards where guilds compete for the most sherpas completed, win percentage, and time to complete. Just give people a reason to use guided games and it solves all the matchmaking issues.

Random rolls are actually a good thing for a game like Destiny. The problem comes in when you Bungo random rolls. And by that I mean you create a bunch of garbage perks and only a couple of good ones, and then randomly assign them to drops.

Clever.

OT, I'm pretty excited about a lot of this stuff. They've already been steadily improving the game outside of expansions and Forsaken seems like a step in a better direction, plus no telling what else is in the pipeline for Year 2. I mean, Destiny 1 had the April Update that wasn't even a part of Taken King's launch and was still probably the most substantial change to the game that year.

Subclasses sound hit and miss for me. As a primarily Sunbreaker player, I don't see switching to the new Super unless throwing hammers as a melee ability is really compelling. I don't play a lot of Warlock, but the new perk trees for Voidwalker and Stormcaller sound cool as hell. There's nothing new for Hunters that excites me, unfortunately.

The new enemy types sound cool as well, particularly Chieftans and their totem powers. I'm also interested in power increase not being relegated to the most hardcore of activities. I don't really raid since I only play with one other friend.

The idea of Guided Games is nice for Raids. But it's ridiculous for Nightfall, which should just have matchmaking. And for Raids, there should just be standard LFG.

Guided Games was obviously a failure. A near idea but it's not what the game needs. What makes it most frustrating is that when Bungie announced it on stage last spring, they announced it with the attitude that it was the solution to our desire for matchmaking/LFG. It wasn't. It didn't fix anything.

Optional matchmaking toggle for almost all activities except Raids and Trials, which should have an LFG option. Simple as that.

(And honestly, I think you should be able to play Trials with randoms via matchmaking as well. But it should only put you against other fully matchmade teams. But that's just a personal opinion.)

How doesn't it fix it? Removing the cost to apply them (purples on ship cost like 15k glimmer) and having access to unlimited shaders. Seems like a good fix to me. No clue what they are going to cost but even if they cost what shaders do now on ever verse it will be a few 100 dust to change everything.

They could easily bs their way around it, too. "Oh, shit, the Traveler did something weird! What's this? New powers?! B-baka na...!"

You've got a setting with dragons that grant wishes and immortal bug aliens. Don't you kill Oryx in the ascendant realm by contradicting the philosophic foundation of his existence or something like that? Think weird, Bungie.

Knowing what Forsaken is, I rather see a new class introduced during a massive, universe-shattering conflict than a smaller, more intimate story about avenging a friend and playing space sheriff. Maybe that's the same WoW conditioning flaring up that makes me indifferent to time-gated gameplay content than anything that ought to be taken seriously, though.

/Now if they don't take the opportunity with the D3 character reset to introduce a new class, God help Bungie I'll be mildly annoyed.

What is the reasoning behind separating single-shot grenade launchers from the rest? Unless they plan on bringing magazine-fed grenade launchers up to the same amount of damage and AOE as them - but even then, they'd be a bit underpowered as power weapons.

I'd say 50/50 it's them not wanting to deal with players having spammable grenade launchers in Crucible to spam-blind fire onto objectives on spawn, and needing to have SOMETHING still drop for the Power slot.

It's kind of depressing now thinking about what our range of options are going to be for that slot now. Swords perks are largely inconsequential, so unless those perks get a massive shake up, who cares just use whatever looks cool. Rocket launchers have always been overly dominant in all content and I can't see myself moving away from Sins of the Past any time soon because of how amazing auto-reloads and cluster bomb is. I'm all about those breech-loading grenade launchers in D2 right now (Fighting Lion has been my jam for months), so drums have to get really crazy before I'll use them. And I don't like sniper rifles, so why would I want to deal with one that has a charge time?

I hope there's a disgusting glut of power exotics for Forsaken that go outside the available power weapon archetypes and that (I can't believe I'm saying this) they bring back large machine guns in D3, because I just can't get excited over those four weapon types.
