Anyone have an external hard drive recommendation? I see myself going mostly digital with the X.
See if that 4TB WD drive sale is still going on for 80 buck. That's a steal.

So my Xbox One X fan spins up quite fast and loud while playing graphically intensive games. It sounds like wind blowing through a cracked open window. In fact, I thought it was a sound effect in the game I was playing for a while.
Does anyone have an Xbox One X that does NOT do this?
Don't pay attention to the overall noise since the camera is quite close to the system. I can't hear the normal drone during gameplay. Listen for the "whoosh" of air at 1:18 and at 3:20.

Mine sounds like that too when playing Gears 4. There's also a very slight rattle.
We have logic in the console to determine when to spin the fan faster to provide the cooling needed.
Yes, it's normal
Yeah, I figured as much. The only time I've had the fans get really loud outside of a game was when using the Edge browser. Hasn't done that again since.I did send a PM to one of the verified Xbox engineering team over on reddit when they were taking questions the other day and he replied that's its normal under heavy load

If you can just inbox me how to extract the metadata from the file I think I know how using Davinci but not 100% sure.. Man gunna need a step by step on this one lol BTW where is youtube HDR tools a link please thanks. You need to extract the metadata from the file that is there and insert it in a format that youtube recognises. As the content is already graded, you should be able to use the YouTube HDR tools.
Did you have to shrink the game manually, or did the system perform the function automatically?

I realized I made a really dumb mistake... or not so much? I think when I bought it, instead of putting my receipt in my jacket, I put it in the bag, which I then threw away.
But then again, since I got it launch day, my warranty period is a logically deduced and it shouldn't matter?

It has been discussed about before in this thread but is the big discrepancy between people saying their system is whisper quite during demanding games and other people saying there is a noticeable fan noise just opinion on sound? What would cause some systems manufactured to be quieter than others? I am no hardware wiz.
So far my Scorpio Edition has been great. I've been playing it almost every day and have seen no issues apart from just one random controller disconnect when playing Cuphead (seriously I was fighting the Dragon and out of nowhere it gives me the disconnection notification). I do hear sound coming from the system more often than before but I think that's okay.
The 1TB size sucks for me though. Especially since my previous Xbox console had a 2TB hard drive.
This game on the X. Everytime i start it up i am blown away. And thats even on a 1080p screen.
I did end up getting it and it's wonderful. There is so much personality in all the little dudes and the sound is superb to match the visuals. I was a bit worried about 30fps when the whole screen is panning constantly, but everything is so clear that it's not bad. It's great to get something so high quality in the "diversification" selections of the Xbox library.Yup, quite a bit of story and characters talking during missions, it also has some amazing story based cutscenes, worth playing through the game just for those.
People also have wildly different preferred room temperatures, and some store it in a little entertainment center slot while others leave it in open air, and some use an external hard drive so the one inside the Xbox would generate less heat. Each machine is tuned different, some may produce more heat so the fans kick in more?
I'm pretty sure that the noise issue that I was mentioning is just a hard drive being a hard drive and reading data like it's supposed to. It was night time and there was no other noise so that might have explained why I could hear it this time rather than in the daytime when there is a lot more noise going on. It's a very soft noise.Mine has been perfect, also a Scorpio and getting daily use. I actually hear my external HDD more than my Scorpio. But no issues with noise at all.
I have the exact same experience. I also never heard that gear up for some seconds but this may due to my One X stands is in a relatively confined space.Mine has been perfect, also a Scorpio and getting daily use. They are different ways of decoding audio digitally, so which is better would depend on the chipset in your receiver. Bitstream is kind of an old workaround of some issues that was also tied to some audio processing effects like room settings on 5.1 systems or virtual surround on 2.1 systems, but now technology is far advanced so uncompressed is a natural choice if your receiver is anywhere near new.I'm confused about the sound option, which is better between Bitstream and Uncompressed 5.1 audio ? I have a good receiver so should I let the Xbox do is thing or send everything to the receiver ?

Realistically, unless you shelled out an obscene about of money for your speakers AND very deliberately placed them for ideal sound field casting, it's likely you wouldn't be able to hear a difference anyway because audio technology is so good/accessible/standardized these days that taking it next level is only really utilized when you do that in a room well designed for it. It's such a pain in the ass to do that most would probably be better off using headphones and a tactile transducer or a higher end 2.1 option for the same money they'd drop on a 5.1.
Even then, there is a massive range of audio quality between different games. Sound hasn't become as important as visuals to the gaming industry the way it has been for the film industry.
Mine does that too, only for a few seconds every few hours. It's in an open cabinet. Seen loads of people on reddit say the same too. Seems pretty normal. So my Xbox One X fan spins up quite fast and loud while playing graphically intensive games. It sounds like wind blowing through a cracked open window. More like stole it. UPS is hot trash and their workers break and steal shit all the time. I've experienced it both personally and professionally as a retail manager in the past and now operations manager for a warehouse. Push that shit hard as high up into corporate as you have to (or if the retailer you bought it from will cover it, whatev) because they have a bad company culture among their workers and supervisors. FedEx is way better, and while occasionally incompetent, at least always professional. Of course, USPS, while having some limitations on what you can do with them compared to private carriers, does have many laws on it making "failures" you get with private parcel companies a felony that will be found out by the postmaster, so they almost never happen. So for anyone who knew my unit died day 1 and I sent in for repair. UPS has lost it. :|
This week has been amazing..
Haven't played TF2 yet but I wonder if there is an API glitch to iron out because in FFXV when we drive into a tunnel, the whole car turns black (I painted it white). Is the lighting in Titan fall 2 messed up. The colors on the guns just go completely black when not lit by a light source. Can't member if this happend in the PS4 version. I can see the characters hand underneath the stock of the gun just fine.

So does the Xbox vent itself differently when standing vertically to overcompensate the fact that the vents on one side is blocked while standing?
I'm curious how much safer / louder the heat gets or the fan runs when stood vertically vs horizontally
Did you do a legit restart? I know it sounds too simple but I always do that...So I'm confused about RotTR. I installed the 30 GB update but the game only showed a black screen when I started it. I then learned about game shrinking and found out that I could shrink the game. However, now it doesn't show up in the shrinkable list but the size is still 57.3 GB with DLC. I don't think it has been shrunk at all? Anyway, I still only get a black screen when I start it. I have to download the whole game again, don't I? :/
Yeah, powered the console off, cleared the cache, turned it on. Same problem.Did you do a legit restart? I know it sounds too simple but I always do that...
That was my experience since the update...always nice to confirm.Automatically. If you download it fresh, i think if it already was on your hard drive before the implementation you have to do it manually
Did you get the latest dash update form Thursday (455mb)?So I'm confused about RotTR. I installed the 30 GB update but the game only showed a black screen when I started it. Have you tired bitstream out under the HDMI audio?Just got the console and it refuses to let me have 5.1 audio output. Keeps giving me an error message. The only time it lets me pick 5.1 without an error message is if I go back to Video Settings -> Advanced Video Settings and change Auto Detect to HDMI. However, if I do that, I can't do 4K HDR anymore...
Also gives me error message :(
