How does co-op work on switch?

is there a limit of joy con or pro controls that I can use?
And do both controls have the same function?

because I remember on the wii u there were a whole bunch
of different controls
There are a bunch of different control methods on Switch.

Aside from handheld play (dual Joy-Con) being mostly ubiquitous, there are a lot of options and it's up to the developer to implement the ones they choose to use. Sometimes the pro controller is or isn't supported. Sometimes single Joy-Con play is or isn't supported. Sometimes the touchscreen is or isn't supported. Sometimes motion controls are or aren't supported. It's on a per-game basis, and there are even games with no support for controls other then the touchscreen (Voez).

As such, co-op can be motion, single Joy-Con, double Joy-Con, Pro Controller, or otherwise. It depends.

My only experience with playing Doom was the PC version back in the 90s at a friend's house, and I barely even got to try it. I'm going in pretty much blind.

My fiancée and I tried out the Snipperclips demo and really dug it. How long is the full game? Is it worth the $20?

And are there any other co-op games out there on the Switch? She really enjoys being able to work together in a game as opposed to competing against each other.

Snipperclips is worth it, specially if you play co-op with different people.

The link below has a thread with all local multiplayer on the Switch, categorized. Post #2 include some recommendations for co-op games. In addition to those, I'd say Super Beat Sports is a pretty good game in co-op, specially the baseball game (it's not that good game in single player).

8 controller support is the max I've seen in a game.

Te Switch has a much more flexible controller setup than the Wii U. On Switch you can pause the game at any time, and change controller configuration (if the game support the controller setup).

Thimbleweed park anygood on switch? or should i just get the pc version?

Yes, Thimbleweed Part is great on the Switch (I played it on standard/casual mode). It has buttons for command selection, as well as point+click. The Switch version doesn't have anything "extra" features (other than being able to play it both docked and portable).

How is the d-pad in the pro controller? Is it really that bad, I don't seem to understand the issues with it.

I saw that the 8bitdo controllers work on the Switch, would that be a better alternative?

The c-buton d-pad alternative the left joycon was frankly the worst decision on the Switch, it was only done to use the two joycons as individual controllers but I doubt anyone will actually use them like that besides once or twice.

I've never had any issues with my D-Pad. Its a little more mushy compared to some of Nintendo's earlier offerings, but nothing that isn't unplayable with them.

Possible Nintendo direct leak:
First weekend of the month, 45 minutes long. The following games are currently slated to appear:
>Yoshi
>Kirby Star Allies
>Kirby Battle Royale (NA Direct only)
>No More Heroes: Travis Strikes Again
>Yooka-Laylee
>Fire Emblem
>Fire Emblem Warriors
>Steep
>Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology
>Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey Redux
>Dragon Quest 11 for 3DS and Switch
>Dragon Quest Builders 1+2
>Metroid Prime 4
>Mario Maker (switch/port)
>Kid Icarus (switch/new)

Additionally, Nintendo will be announcing a partnership with Devolver Digital to bring many of their titles to the Switch. The Japanese stream will also announce the localisation of several of their untranslated titles.

Beyond this the Switch's paid online scheme will be a major focus, along with the reveal of a new Game Pass/Origin Access style system for playing old Nintendo titles. You can subscribe to a specific system's titles, download, and play them freely so long as your subscription is active. It will launch in tandem with the paid online service and will feature NES and SNES titles only at the start, all from the Classic releases. Netplay will be enabled for specific games. There is no option to rent a game individually or permanently purchase any of them currently.

A system update for the Switch will also be coming in January.

8bitdo controllers are a solid alternative with a great D-Pad. I've got the SNES30 pad and the FC30 Pro, and love them both. Obviously the SNES30 option is missing analogs and a second set of triggers, but it works great for games like Pokken and Puyo Puyo Tetris.

There's also their new controllers, and I assume they're probably great as well. 8bitdo's stuff is really impressing me so far with build quality.

Line up sounds legit. Devolver Digital make some of the best games around, that's hype!

Mario Maker port is great to hear. Kid Icarus is just yes! I hated the 3ds controls but loved the game itself! Seeing that on Switch is a solid win. Def interested in NMH again after tooling with NMH2 on Dolphin. Fantastic game!

I have the NES30 Pro and it works great, although the analog sticks are a bit small.

However the SNES30 Pro comes out in December and not only is it a bit larger but it has gyro controls and rumble (but not HD rumble) as well. I would wait for that.

Yes, but a leak posted at 4chan...
I honestly don't believe it mostly because there is no mention of Smash.

Couple Switch questions

1) I thought I saw some battery replacements (or extenders?) out there for Nintendo Switch. Do you guys use any such thing? Is there a solid one out there? Back with my original 3DS, I got a nyko battery pack that gave it quite a bit more juice.
Does such a thing for switch exist? Now that power banks are a thing, would a power bank be a better alternative? Could you play and use a power bank at the same time? If power banks are good, which one is ideal for switch?

2) Concerning using controllers like 8bitdo. How are these registered in the Nintendo Switch? Does it recognize it as a pro controller, or a generic controller? Can I use such a controller and just start playing any game? If a game needs specific functions to a specific controller, will it say 'please plug in an appropriate controller' when booting up a game?

Thanks

This might be a stupid question but how do digital licenses work on Switch? Are they tied to account or console?

I have a Switch but getting one for my step son and on my current system any user can play games I've purchased.

If I login to my account on his system will it deauthorize games on my system?

There are battery cases like you might get for an iphone and external batteries that charge via usb c. I kind of want to get the case since it has it's charging port on the side of the switch and doesn't protrude out the bottom like on the switch itself which causes it to poke me in the belly when playing on the couch. The switch cannot be docked with this case of course.

I currently use an anker usb c external battery which works fine. It charges as fast as the switch can use power so it's fine.

Check out this Atomic Purple switch mod! I wish it was being mass produced! I'm a sucker for translucent plastic shells on electronics.

1A) There are quite a few, some of them are cases and some are battery packs. I'd do some research before you buy though, as some are questionable.

2A) Once they've been synced once they connect just like any other controller. Shows up as a Pro controller in the system IIRC, and works just like one other than the features it doesn't have (motion, NFC, rumble).

You can't use the same account on two systems IIRC, and digital games are tied to your individual Nintendo Accounts once redeemed/bought.

Yep reboot and power off back on...
If all your games have been downloaded to a micro SD (not the system), you can turn the console off, pop out the memory card, turn it back on in recovery mode (power button + volume up + volume down until it boots), and do a system restore without deleting save data (it should be an option there).

Might fix it.

Yes. Only one console can have digital games at one time.
So you might have to rebuy games for his switch

So I'm biting and getting a new Switch from Amazon and so far I have the screen protector in my cart. What else is a must have item for a 9 year old boy to have? What's a good carrying case?

Ugh, I hope this is not true, I would rather buy NES and SNES stuff then have to subscribe to some service.
Mario maker switch would be good though.

That would depend precisely on what you'd like said carrying case to carry. Do you want the case to be able to just hold the system itself and a few game carts? Or...do you need the case to hold some accessories as well? Budget is also a key factor as well. I personally opted for the former and went with a somewhat barebones case, but one that was made of high quality materials (made by a higher-end, U.S.-based company in San Francisco). This one, to be precise

Thats a nice looking case. I had a case for my 3DS that was mostly leather (or faux leather), wouldn't mind something like that again for the Switch.

4chan is a handy place to anonymously leak something. It's also a wonderful place to just completely make something up. People remember the former examples rather than the latter.

So, a few months ago, i didn't find too much on aliexpress that was Switch related and looked decent for an interesting price, other than some tempered glass screenprotectors...
But i was just browsing and found an HDMI adapter that could replace the dock for €10 or serve as a portable alternative. Some user comments state it works, some say it only works with the original power adapter, some say it also works with a generic power adapter, and some say it doesn't work (but don't specify if they used the original power adapter or not). Still, at that price... it's tempting.
Also found some joycon shells that look good from buyer feedback pictures, for less than €8. Since i need to fix my joycon desyncing issue anyway (Nintendo BeNeLux isn't responding to my e-mail) i might as well go for something different (i have the grey ones). Is the "middle" part necessary? Does anybody know that? They sell it seperately, or bundled, but it seems this is merely inside the joycon, so i could just as well keep the grey ones from my original joycons, right?
