I mean, being town is like the "default" status of everyone. It's up to us to weed out the scum from the group of supposed townspeople.

First post in the game! I am super curious how people are going to choose lynches. I don't really see yet how people can figure out who mafia is just from their postings.
How many players are mafia? Can't find the info in the OP, or are we not supposed to know?

No, we don't know, but the amount of scum typically doesn't cross above 25% of the player base. If I had to guess, there are 5 scum in this game, maybe 4.
So yeah, random lynching is bad, but I still did it anyways in like my second game because I couldn't find any decent reason to lynch someone on Day 1 lol.
Random Lynching is a bad idea, because all it does is give a place for Mafia to hide in. They can pretend they didn't participate because of a reason, or say they did so that no one would suspect them.

There are several ways to choose a lynch D1: - If you have previous experience with the community you could look for change of habits from the other players and make a vote based on meta, prod some people with random votes and look for reactions, go after inactives, etc.
I prefer going after coasters: people who have a decent number of posts but when you actually look at them they are not saying anything. That's a good way for scum to hide.
D1 is always the hardest. Having to choose a lynch based on almost nothing. No vote data to go on.
Marvel Mafia is fresh in my mind... so this is tempting.

I've played mafia before, but it's been years, and it wasn't a forum based one. So this is a completely new experience for me.
What type of Mafia was it? I've only played these forum based ones so I'm curious.
