But but Sony is at the end....No Games as a Service,so anti-consumer,the media is against them already and Spiderman is Niche + i counted the explosions and the puddles are missing :((((

Keep going Insomniac
Stay in that relationship with Sony and the few mistakes you made with this first game will be gone in the hopefully many following.

Got to say, that's far more than I expected

In a just world, Microsoft would be falling over themselves to approach insomniac to make Sunset overdrive 3.

Were people actually saying a spiderman game was niche? Wtf.
Never understood this. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 made 700 million dollars at the box office despite being... not particularly good. Homecoming made 880 million. The spidey widey man is crazy popular with people all over the world. I mean, he's not FROZEN popular but he has the kind of universal awareness even among people who don't care about comic book stuff that many properties dream of. People who thought an open world Spider-Man wasn't gonna do really well in the modern market weren't seeing the signs.

This game is a system seller. I know several people who bought/are buying a PS4 pretty much just because of this. The hype is real

If there's one thing I love of Sony is how much they're willing to invest in their games.

Marvel, Sony and Insomniac put so much love into this game, I hope it pays off. Which apparently is.

Seriously, the money Sony put behind the marketing of this game must be insane. They have even said that they plan to invest more money in the marketing of their FP games.

Nice for Spider-man but very expected considering the marketing and the appeal of the character and game.

But DQXI in second is a big surprise. That's great. I hope that the game at least achieve 1 million much like the last two ones that did on the west.

Every so often you really find out how thick the bubble some live in is and how their opinions are completely shaped by it.

There was also a line of thinking that Spider-Man had this artificial ceiling to how well it could do sales wise because of what God of War did and how the multi-platform Batman games did.

Well Sony FP games are sales juggernauts this generations, they are just as big or even bigger than some of the biggest 3P games on their respective platforms. So yeah i'd say more investment into marketing is a smart move.

Nothing just about that. Most of Insomniac's fans are on PS systems and they went and made Sunset an xbox/pc exclusive anyway and to no one's surprise it didn't perform strong. Insomniac should have figured something out to get the game to its fan base.

Really is amazing to see the growth of Sony first party studios this gen. Future looks very bright for Sony and WWS. Can't wait, next Days Gone shattering records for Sony Bend lol

And yet those gutter tier jurassic films make significantly more and nobody wants to make a dino survival horror game. ... :(

This is the one thats likliest to tank critically tbh. No idea about sales. Sales bomba award will surely go to dreams but itll get 90+ MC.

So no sunset overdrive 2 ?...:(

Maybe from a B or C Team.
Don't think they want to go from a 10-15 Million Seller back to something that will struggle to sell 1 Million Units for some reason especially with Sony giving them freedom to handle some of the biggest Brands in the world.
All their good&well received and well selling games are associated with Playstation.

But they own the SO IP so technically the next one could have a chance to sell good if they make it for different platforms :P

Just goes to show how out of touch some people on ERA are with the masses. Anyone that thought this was not going to be a massive financial success should just never bother in any sales thread. The fact that it took over the top spot from a game that is on 3 platforms says a lot

Hmm. I mean I've never considered insomniac a developer you follow systems just to play their games so you have a point.

Fact is Sunset is their IP and Sony at the time was not willing to fund it. Microsoft was, but it's pretty clear that they weren't interested in a sequel.

Now insomniac are funny position. They have put out 2 exclusives on PS4 since then that have sold amazingly and one VR game that was a success.

But Sony won't fund an exclusive they don't own. So do insomniac pitch Microsoft again, or pitch Sony for something else they can own? Do they approach a 3rd party and make a multiplat? who knows.

This has been a favoured talking point in games coverage and on forums for probably the last 3 years. You may not agree with it - and it would certainly seem the data is not bearing it out to be true at all - but it was definitely being said, and frequently.
The favored talking point among developers and publishers is that the traditional fire and forget linear AAA game these days isn't as profitable as longer games. A statement that's been prove multiple times over so much so that I can't see how one could disagree. Note, one of the biggest examples of this was that one of the most universally criticized aspects of the order 1886 was that despite the fact that it had all these production values, it was only 5 hours long.

Another thing to note, the only people I can find frequently saying that single player games are dead/dying are people who're completely misinterpreting the words of devs and publishers while simultaneously ignoring the critical and/or commercial success of multiple single player titles each year.

This game is honestly probably GOTY. I think the only other games that will challenge it are MHW (which I've put..200+? ish hours into, counting both ps4 and steam, which honestly is pretty low) and God of War. Now that both Marvel and Sony know what a fuckin beast this game is, I can only imagine what the sequel will be like..

Congrats to Marvel for finally releasing a good quality game after many terrible ones before it. And also congrats to Insomniac for Their success. I always supported the studio since I played Spyro back in PS1. And finally congrats to Sony for another masterpiece in their lineup of awesomeness and I would like you thank them for still supporting big budget Single player games.

Congratz Insomniac, well deserved. Watched hours of the beginning of the game on Saturday cuz freakin Amazon didn't even ship my preorder. Broke down and bought another copy Sunday morning and played allll day. No regrets.

Seriously, I've played almost every Ratchet & Clank even that tower defense one. When I saw SO exclusive on XB1 I didn't think for second to buy one, but that it was a bummer that I wouldn't be able to play their game.
