What are your opinions on "The Purge" The Concept, the movie, would you do it

It's more than a couple of posters. I suppose I should be pleased that the level of support is lower than one would expect from many estimates of the proportion of psychopaths in the population.
I mean, it's probably does not reflect well on the forums as a whole that we let members say "Yeah I'd totes murder the shit out of people"
I'd hardly call them a cultural phenomenon. Most people I know haven't seen or heard of them. Anyway I wouldn't participate no.
This is what we call a red flag.
White collar crimes would be tempting, but no, no interest in hurting people, I would leave the country.

The very same concept of "the Purge" is the very same critique that the filmmakers are doing to the American society, across the 3 films. Making the question "would you do it?" shows that you failed to grasp the message that this movie is trying to deliver, specially if you are not a rich (or white) person. Either way...you look kinda dumb.
And that's the premise. We're actually discussing whether we'd like to kill weak, impoverished people.
The concept falls apart as soon as you start overthinking it though.
But yeah, Purge 2 and 3 have their moments. I even surprised myself by rewatching 2. However I kinda feel it would work better as a TV show.
Would I purge ? Of course not, the movies make us identify with those who don't purge for a reason

Errr well downloading porn is not illegal, unless it's the illegal kind and honestly I'm not seeing how any interest in participation of any of what you suggested is much better than just straight out murder.
Basically, the whole movie premise is that the rich get to cull the poor.
But even if I were filthy rich, I'm not a psychopath. So no again.

I've only seen the first movie. Was kinda bored really. I wouldn't want to partake in a purge in real life. Seems unfeasible. You wake up the next day and your Bus Driver is dead. No milk in the shops as key figures in the delivery stage were murdered. Turn on TV to watch the news and the news host is someone new and untested because someone offed the main one. Garbage piles up because there was a mass killing by a disgruntled employee on his fellow employees. What you want to do is say you are having one and for everyone who wants to go killing sign up and then everyone who didn't sign up rounds all the would be murderers up and ships them off to an island to kill each other. Then we can all live in peace. Purge the purgers.

Purge spinoff from the movies, a fictional reality show that takes place in the purge universe called "Purge Island" where not only they get to kill and loot everything in the island, but also last one standing wins fame, cash, and prizes!
No I don't want to watch them kill each other. They want to kill. Let them kill each other and themselves. Everyone else is left in peace to go about their life. If one day all the violent and murderous in my city were all shipped off through voluntary signing up - they thought there was going to be purge but the joke was on them - I would be okay with that. I didn't want anything to do with them before and now they are gone I don't want to see them kill each other. I, just like everyone sensible, want a quiet life :D
i have an idea for a slapstick comedy spinoff where it's the Purge but if you wanna participate you have to wear a blindfold and one of those inflatable sumo costumes
The concept is dumb. If someone rapes and murders my family there is no way I would just let it go. If someone steals my TV I'm going to want it back.

I mean, that's not the guy asked. Not sure how anyone has gone so long as to not separate fiction and reality.
Unless this is an elaborate demostrarion of a fictional online persona vs reality but who we are publicly online is increasing closer to who we are in reality.

They need to make a heist movie in the series sometimes. This "all crime is legal but actually only murder happens" gets boring.
Downloading porn that isn't available for free from the original creators definitely isn't legal.
Result would be the same tho, you die within few hours of it happening, you're not the cool survivor who kills zombies, you're generic Zombie #30287 who got infected before the general public caught on on the zombie outbreak or at best the guy who dies because he didn't have the balls to shoot their zombie neighbor.
Great setting for a story, would have worked a lot better as an anthology tv/book series where each season/book followed 3-4 different points of view of during one night.
Purges do exist in real life. They are called genocides (or holocausts). They generally aren't viewed favorably.
