Anyone playing Hammerwatch?

I'd never heard of it before but apparently it's been around since 2013 and reviews seem decent enough.

Is Stardew a good fit for the Switch? Been watching someone play it on laptop and it seems really chill and I fancy giving it a shot.

Also, just to confirm: the wobbly Joycon issue - we're talking really wobbly and easily slipping off the Switch in handheld mode, right? A little bit of give is normal, I'm assuming, but I'm developing anxiety over the <millimetre give my left con has. I got this end of November/early December so I would hope this isn't still a problem.

My left Joycon has started detaching from the Switch without pressing the release button. Bought it on launch, and I've just been using it normally.

Yes, with the patch update, they fixed some issues.

yeah, go into the controller settings or wherever it is and test the button inputs. hit left and right in rapid succession and see if you get a bunch of ups and downs mixed in. if you do it's bad if you don't it's fine.

Cheers mate. It appears there is indeed a problem, but not as bad as I thought.

Ever since I bought my Samsung 128 microSD I've periodically encountered an SD card error mid-game that the SD card was removed and system has to turn off. It seems very fickle and I won't be doing anything extreme like shaking the system when it occurs. I can only assume that my fingertips pressing along the back near the kickstand could mess with the contacts in some way? Has happened a few times while I was shitting earlier.

Can't seem to find other common complaints of this error popping up, and given the Switch has a push to lock/unlock the card in place (versus just the slide-in setting of 3DS) I feel it is more indicative of a card screwing up or the contacts more than the Switch being faulty. Anyone encounter anything similar?

Guys, I'm looking for recommendations for the best leaderboard chasing games out there on the Switch, either big budget retail or small indie.

I'm talking about games like Resogun, for example, that let you compete globally and indeed with people on your friends list, for top scores. I have no real experience with Nintendo's online side of things, so have no idea how commonplace such titles are - any help appreciated.

Question for Shantae owners: can you play the DLC in Hardcore mode?

I just learned that Hardcore existed so now I'm interested in the game again and the 1st DLC is on sale, too.

....

So I had lost my 8bitdo SNES30 right before I got my Switch and I finally found it an hour ago.

Updated the firmware and paired it and it's soooo good.

First thing I did was play 1945 and what a huge difference a good D-Pad makes. I was using the analog stick on the JoyCons before because the face buttons were just awful for the task and I'm doing so much better with the SNES30 D-Pad.

Might finally buy some ACA games.

Pinball FX3 is all about leaderboard and competing with other players' scores, tournaments, etc. If you don't already have it you should grab it now while the Carnivals & Legends 2-pack is still free.

Speaking of Pinball FX3, Zen Studios confirmed today that they are working on a patch for the game that aims to bring handheld up to 60fps and docked up to 1080p.

I knew it looked 720p on my TV but I didn't believe it...

Anyway, as for other leaderboard games I am woefully unable to provide first-hand account, but I do have first hand knowledge that Mario Odyssey has a ton of leaderboard activities.

I also know all of the Arcade Archive NeoGeo games and the Psykio games (Strikers 1945, Gunbird) have online leaderboards for their various modes.

I'll get my Switch today. One question though, can I play games like Puyo Puyo Tetris and MK8 with two players without buying additional controllers? Like splitting the two joy cons?

Edit: found the answer already, at least for MK8 http://imgur.com/keeccFk.jpg

I chose the physical way (when available) with Nintendo Switch games. I have imported Resident Evil Revelations Collections from the Americas to Europe, and as you know RE Revelations 2 comes just with a download code.

My question is, if I buy a microSD card (e.g. 32GB) and download the game there, what it's gonna happen if I insert that microSD card into another Nintendo Switch system? Will another user on another Nintendo Switch system be able to play the game? Well, basically what I'm asking is if a microSD card can replicate game carts behaviour.

I guess the response is obviously not, but would like someone to tell me if you know it.

Finally got round to playing 4 player split screen on Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and it's so much better than the Wii U version. Especially if you play in teams. A red shell will bypass a teammate and hit the nearest enemy rather than hitting the person directly in front whether they're on your team or not. A blue shell let off by a red player will hit the furthest forward blue player, even if there's two red players in front of them.

And of course the Battle Mode is a whole new game. Renegade Roundup is an absolute blast.

Such a great game. No regrets at all double dipping with this one.

So, I'm suddenly considering getting a Switch and I need either some convincing or for someone to talk me out of it. First, some things you should know:

-I'm more of a PC and PS4 gamer. PC for pretty much everything except PS4 exclusives which tend to appeal to me. I traded in my Xbone because it had no exclusives beyond Quantum Break.
-I'm not a Nintendo fan. By that I mean that while I grew up with their games I have no nostalgic attachment to them. I enjoy some Zelda games and Marios, but they aren't something I NEED to have. I tend to gravitate towards games with interesting, deep stories on top of great gameplay. Favorite games would be: MGS, Mass Effect, Dragon Age, The Witcher, Deus Ex, Fallout, Dark Souls, Skyrim, Arkham.
-I don't care much for side scrollers. There are some exceptions but I've just grown past them, I played all the side scrollers I wanted in the 90's. Every time I try a modern one I quickly get bored, even Mario.
-I had a 3DS and traded it in because I felt there wasn't enough there to appeal to me and handheld portability means nothing to me besides being able to play laying on my bed. I don't play "games on the go." I loved A Link Between World and had fun with Mario 3D whatever as well as New Super Mario Bros. But, I'll admit that I don't feel like I tapped the potential of that system before trading it in.
-I'm generally not a fan of JRPGs. The first and only FF game I played was FFXV and I have mixed views on that. I pretty much despise turn based combat outside of Pokemon. And, JRPG's tend to be too "anime" in terms of story for me to enjoy them. Like, I'm eyeing Xenoblade but everything I've seen in terms of character design, story, and voice acting seems to be turning me off.
-I don't think I like Pokemon anymore. I had the latest Pokemon on the 3DS and barely got past the beginning parts. I think I've just outgrown the series.
-I've already played base BoTW to its fullest on PC. That said, the idea of portable BoTW is tempting.

So, basically the main drivers for me in favor of the Switch is being able to play BoTW "on the go" (which just means on my bed). And, possibly enjoying Mario. Oh, and of course Nintendo's future investment in the platform which will hopefully lead to more games that appeal to me and good ports. As you can see, that's not a whole lot. Yet, I still can't put the thought out of my head. I've also got some questions:

1. What's the Virtual Console situation like? Is A Link Between Worlds on there? Any other Zelda games on the VC for Switch?
2. What's online like? I'll admit online play isn't a big deal for me.
3. How do games looked docked as compared to undocked? Is it a large difference?

I think that's everything, for now, thoughts?

Are you referring to the characters from Plague of Shadows or Specter of Torment? Those campaigns are basically new games, and another campaign is also coming (freely) in 2018 called King of Cards. Besides that the game on Switch has some pretty new features like coop. So I'd say a big YES. Best money I have put on my Switch is there.

I've figured this out, my left joycon has a rail that juts out a little too much which means there's a tiny gap between it and the console/the guard you can put on when the joycon is detached. It's really annoying that I've noticed this, but I guess if I ever get a second set of joycons the problem should disappear. Might test it with a friend's joycons.

Ah, this sounds great! This is the game I'm most excited about picking up, it's astonishing that a repackage of a game I own helped sell the next system.

1. Not VC yet, besides Neo Geo and some arcade titles released as part of Arcade Archives series. VC rumored to be announced on the (also rumoured) January Direct.
2. What are you referring to? If it's the price, for now you can play online for free until the full service is announced and deployed. Anything else, depends on the game.
3. Depends on the game, some games are more polished to work undocked, others not so much. BotW, MK8, Doom, Kingdom Battle are the ones that have amazed me more on the Switch screen.

But given the list you mentioned at the top... I don't know if a Switch is for you. For me the greatest appeal of the console are Nintendo games and the portability of non-portable games (by this meaning full console experiences, not handheld oriented games, that you can play on the bed, e.g. Skyrim).

Yeah, like I said, protability for me means simply being able to play on the bed. I've never "gamed on the go," except when I was really young with my Gameboy Color. And, the thought of playing Zelda on the bed is pretty appealing. I just don't know if I want to shell out the price just to play Zelda again, including collecting everything again. And then, maybe enjoying Xenblade 2 and Mario. I would like to play Bayonetta, since I haven't played any of them. But, that's about it that in terms of games I know of.

Just cracked open our switch that we bought months ago, celebrating Christmas today since will be away next week. Six year old love controlling the cap in odyssey, have that and MARIO kart. Now to decide what else if anything to buy or pace selves. Have to get Zelda, maybe splatoon. Hmm. Bought the gamepad , I think the joycons and one other pad is fine for now.

Good times ahead

Great, I've had my Switch since launch and today visiting my little brother I use his dock and pro controller that is connected to it.

Didn't think about it and the cable was a bit too short and my switch and his dock fell to the floor. So far no damage what I can see :/ been playing Odyssey for an hour after that. Switch is pretty sturdy if I recal it?

Yeah this happened to me on a Lexar card. It happened to me on both 3DS and Switch. Eventually it would just stop reading altogether even on my PC.

Just buy another one.

The Specter of Torment campaign is legitimately excellent. Very arguably better than Shovel Knight's, I can't recommend it enough. Plague Knight's campaign on the other hand.. Yikes. I bailed out after a few levels. So maybe just get the Specter campaign standalone and call it a day?

New Switch owner here, I've had it for a day now and I'm loving it.
All I've been doing is downloading demos though lol. I bought Zelda but it isn't coming in the mail til monday.

Glad I've been trying out some of the demos anyways, wouldn't have found out about Puyo Puyo Tetris otherwise. Perfect local multiplayer game to play with my family.

Do you think buying a second dock is worth it?

Right now I'm travelling with the dock itself but I'm a little tempted to buy a second one... what do you think? Only thing is they're pretty expensive. ~_~

This would be for travel to where family lives, so I go back occasionally.

Man, am I missing something or are there only a few demos to download. The only one interesting to me was blaster master. Oh hat was a nostalgia kick.

The "games with demos" option on the eshop shows 18 of them for me. Not sure if that's all of them though because the Octopath traveler demo wasn't there, had to search for that one.

Instead of the store you could always check my list. I keep pretty up to date on demo releases, where, how big, and what they contain.

Oh awesome, time to bookmark this site.

Off topic but whoa, didn't know you were a member here. I remember reading some of the stuff you posted at The Vita Lounge when I used to have a Vita, nice to see you're doing Switch stuff now.
Good to hear. :)

Yep, got in via the second early run of admissions. Been doing Switch stuff since the start, but I split from the TVL crew (who moved onto Switch coverage) in September. Now I'm doing my own thing.

I've been on the fence for months and I'm considering it for TV in one room and TV in another room. It's just SUCH a big investment for what it is. I am having a hard time swallowing the $80 price tag. If it were $50, I'd be quick to buy one. But $80 is the cost of a game and then some. For convenience.

I'm of the same mind. I really think the dock is the most overpriced item (like $110CAD!), but at the same time I'm a bit wary of third party products as I've already heard some horror stories. It the official dock was even as low as $60CAD (top tier games are $80CAD for comparison) I'd probably have picked one up already.

If you put the SD card into another Switch you'd get a message saying something like:
'Data detected for another Switch Console. Delete data?'
Selecting yes makes the card usable with the Switch it's currently in, no makes it unusable.
