You got a 2017 LG oled?

Since the hdmi port on my receiver got busted by lightning, I use the optical out.
My only issue so far is with lpcm devices like Nintendo consoles because you can't get 5.1 through optical with uncompressed format.
I get a 2.0 output and if there's no sound, it needs to handshake with the receiver again, so I miss some sounds on menus.

Be sure to select auto in the optical out settings, it enable Bitstream for compatible devices so you can get DD or Dts 5.1

If you want me to try specific settings, I can help you.
Yes 2017 LG.

But I get no sound at all no matter what I do on the settings of the TV and consoles/PC

It's as if it misses the handshake the TV won't play audio for any external source connwcted to HDMI on any setting and audio option ( even internal speakers) unless I do a hard reset by turning everythinf of for 20 minutes.

It didn't use to do this at all when using internal speakers and now that it isndoing it changing back to internal speakers doesn't bring back audio.

Internal apps and sounds test thing work perfectly 100%

What else can I try?

Does anybody have experience with gaming at 1080p on 4K monitors? Would the picture look blurry or not? I'm thinking of getting a 4K monitor and play more demanding games at 1080p/60fps.

Hi ERA, I'm buying a new place and have a second bedroom I want to turn into an office / game room. I am looking for a TV that will have games as its use 95% of the time. The remainder might be sitcoms on Netflix.

Everyone is like ooooo get the P607 TCL thing but does that make sense? I'm confused, because rtings says that's the bestest TV for games in the price range but what if I got this Sony instead (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MUG21R7?tag=rtings-tv-ph11b-20&ie=UTF8)? This is a better "all around" TV but is actually rated worse for video games.

What should I get if I want to spend around this price or lower for a second TV for games basically but not exclusively?

My other TV is the KS8000 which I love.

Guys, what is this? Had been watching some videos by the guy and thought they were different but Sony is now intentionally bricking their TVs via firmware updates?

It's a fun watch I guess. But... come on.

That guy is not worth the click.

He praises TV in insane ways, absolutely loves it but is convinced Sony is releasing firmware to make the TV worse. Apparently they have stripped away certain developer features, that improved the resolution or something and since then he seems certain they are dead set on bricking the TV. Yes it's odd.

I use my 4K TV for PC gaming and 1080p looks really nice on it.

Maybe because of the distance that sub native resolution isn't noticable as when you play on a PC monitor.

A surprising amount of TVs I've owned have been made worse by firmware updates. Likely not intentional of course, unless you are a conspiracy theorist. Samsung adding extra crosstalk to 3D of their TVs a few years back and never fixing it a famous one.

Your only solution would be to test your sound setup on another lg 2017 oled or to test another optical sound system.

I haven't got any issue with optical out on my set.
It will be my long-term solution until I save enough for a new sound system. I already ordered some device in order to get 5.1 on Nintendo devices.

Are optical cables really sensitive? Do they break easily? I don't see the light coming out of mine. But why would that make the tv speakers not work on certaon things? I'm losing my mind. This TV set has been more trouble than it seems it's worth.

Edit2: total screw up from my part. Internal speakers where down.

Without clicking I knew exactly who that was. He's fucking insane. Watch his x900e settings video. Like every setting he insists on is completely wrong, you essentially end up w vivid mode settings and the whole time he trashes on rtings for not knowing anything. Some bizarre one sided fued going on there.

Question, I hope you all can help me.

So I've been using a Sony KDL-40S5100 for the past 8 years or so, 40 inch 1080p Bravia and all. I've got a PS4 and X1. I'm thinking of getting an LG 55UJ6540 for a great price. I'm not sure how much better it'll look but I gotta ask, will this still be a noticeable if not great upgrade if I have a base PS4 and X1? I'm getting a Pro and 1X later but this is all I can do for now. I'm hoping to get a tv first and then get the consoles but if it's not worth it then I won't switch.

When watching HDR content, click "action menu" then "picture adjustment". It should say HDR towards the top right.

Not the most convenient way to check but I believe that's all we've got.

Yeah kinda bizarre there's no easy way to see what signal the tv is displaying

Yeah, especially since there is already a button which tells you what the display resolution is currently. Hopefully it's just an oversight that will be patched in.

But that button doesn't even work on most apps either. Really annoying
Do you guys have the perfect settings to set the tv too?
I'm not really knowledgeable on how to calibrate the tv by myself

There's a good video by rtings I think that goes over the best settings and what each does. As far as calibration... You can use their settings but each panel is gonna be a bit different, I'm not sure what the standard tools are for calibration but I was planning on trying to use my irite color checker that I use for mycomputer monitor to calibrate it for photo editing and such.

For the past 9 years I've been using a 720p 42" Pioneer Kuro.

I'm finally upgrading tomorrow to a 65" LG C7.

I love my Kuro, but I think I'm going to notice a difference.

Are LG owners suggesting using the Gaming HDR setting? I'll only have a PS4 Pro connected to the machine (though I could possibly watch Netflix or YouTube through the TV's software with a different input setting?).

I'm sure I'll have lots of questions tomorrow.

Looking to upgrade to a new 65" from my TCL s405

Down to the Sony x900e and the LG B7. I know it is hard to make the call just on price, but it is really worth the $800 for the OLED? That's a lot of money I could buy games and blu rays with.

Any options or input from those that compared the two?

I just went from a 60" Pioneer Elite Kuro to the 65" LG OLED B7. After a bit of tweaking I can honestly say the OLED was a great upgrade. I use Game mode in both SDR and HDR without issue.

Just keep in mind that each input and picture mode stores it's own picture settings. It can take a while to get everything dialed in but the effort is worth it. Also the OLED light setting is more personal preference based on your viewing conditions.

Also make sure to update your firmware (the latest isn't available via the update menu, need to download online) as there are many benefits. YouTube HDR from the built in app looks incredible!

Where are you where the difference is 800$? I don't think it's worth that much more. Maybe a couple of hundred at the most. I was in a similar predicament until I realized I could use my credit cards price protection to get either one at the same price (1000$)

USA. 1700 for the X900e. $2500 for the LG OLED.

Some details leaking on 2018 Sony TVs.

900F confirmed with X1 Extreme + Dolby Vision. 49-85".

This will probably be the TV I buy, glad I didn't get the 900E now.

Better upscaling and DV well worth waiting a few months for. Should be a significant increase in peak brightness too.

Of course if the 900F now has X1 Extreme then that should mean an all new processing beast for the high-end 93/94/A1 series.

Probably a dumb question, but for those with the LG B7A that may know... I set up my TV just for gaming so far with calibrating both an HDR and SDR Game setting. Now I have a 4K HDR Blu-ray I want to watch and I assume I want to calibrate a third time using settings for a movie or TV that's not in Game mode. The question is how can I do this? Do I put the Blu-ray in and calibrate? I was able to do HDR and SDR by doing SDR on the Xbox dash and HDR by playing an HDR game. Anyone have a guide for the best calibrations for this TV when watching movies and TV?

Just click on the input name in the upper left corner with the magic remote.
It give you the resolution and the sound format.

Sorry misread the reply, but still good info

If he is referring to 2017 models of LG OLED, then unfortunitly LG removed the info button from Magic remote.

-If your trying to find resolution/sound format/bitrate that is using one of the inputs (HDMI etc) then just use middle scroll of magic remote and click the input and info will be displayed.

-If your trying to find resolution/sound format/bitrate of an app (Netflix, Amazon video, etc) INFO button was removed by LG in the 2017 model OLED, I use a iOS app called Smartify, its a Free LG remote app and includes INFO button.

Hi folks!

Looking for some advice, I've come across a "deal" on a LG 55E7 TV for £1,500.

Is it worthwhile to jump on this or should I hold out until CES 2018 for better deals?

For what it's worth, I'm rocking a 1080p 50" Sony LED TV just now, I was hoping to get a 65" OLED for sub £2000 but I think I'm dreaming a bit there.

Is the step up from 50" to 55" worthwhile/much of a difference?

Additionally, how is the soundbar on this system compared to say a low end 2.1 subwoofer/bar combo?

You mean you are watching the blu ray from your Xbox?

Easiest thing to do is use HDR standard for that and HDR game for gaming. You can switch between modes in your TV depending upon what you are doing. Having said that you can very easily watch the blu ray in HDR game. Depends how you've set that up. I prefer accurate colours for blu ray watching but go a bit more neutral for gaming.

After a week with a C7, I've come to accept that HDR Game Mode is pretty much unusable 50% of the time on LG 7 Series. Some games work because they seem unbelievably well calibrated (GTS), some are unplayable (Infamous), some other are pretty much impossible to have look great (Uncharted, ACO, anything really sunny).
The philosophy behind this mode processing is commendable (not losing any detail, compensating for panel peak brightness ceiling), but it doesn't work in way too many real life scenarios. I guess I'll play non-demanding games on HDR Standard, and disable HDR altogether in high-speed ones (like if a HDR update ever makes its way into Rocket League).

Pretty disappointed after such an expensive purchase tbh, as HDR was one of the draws for upgrading my 2013 1080p set. Thinking that my set is absolutely able to display HDR Standard luminance with game mode input lag and that's all about a software limitation makes it even more infuriating. It should have been a setting, and preferably a slider to try and reach a better compromise.

Well I still have my perfect blacks and I'm really crazy about it, so I'm keeping the set (and wow after a week of use I don't think I could go back to a 42'). Just way less stoked than I hoped I'd be.

You can disable that. There used to be this i'm sorry for the word...but cancerous YouTuber or two actually that kept popping up at recommended. Two GTA Youtubers. One is known for his horrible bullshit about actually making a fake copy (box and disc) of GTA 6 and then bragging to his ''fans'' that he has GTA 6 and later on making videos that Rockstar wants their copy back and apparently now he's promising to send the game to a fan of his...too pathetic. I don't get their nonsense at recommended anymore. Youtube started to ask me if i wanted to see more content from now at one point and i click on no.

You can use Cinema and/or Technicolor for SDR and HDR on the same HDMI input for movies, they are pretty well identical in pic quality too.

Are there some special kind of HDMI cable recommended for PS4 pro and LG C7? I got new LG C7 on Saturday looks amazing.

But I've tried 2 hdmi cables and I've been losing connection randomly while playing PS4 pro. I can't say for sure but I would think the first cable I used was one that came with the pro and second some old one I had. This never happened on my old plasma tv.
