Ok

First

Credit where credit is due, some great beards on the show

Second, think usurps The Flash as the strongest DCCW pilot. It knew what it wanted to do, looked and sounded good and had a message it wants to answer

Just read DC Wiki about what his daughters can do..... I know we won't get all of it, but it looks promising and I'm excited to see what they will do with his daughters.

I enjoyed this a hell of a lot more than I enjoyed any episode of The Flash in recent years. For starters, the cheese factor seems to be lower thus far to my surprise.

For people interested, a few days ago DC did a panel called The Many Shades of Heroism: DC Heroes Through the African-American Lens. Cress Williams is on the panel, along with the Black Lightning showrunners, where Salim Akil called himself "...probably the angriest Black man in Hollywood. I've got a lot of shit to say."

Starts an hour in.

Was just about to post this, and recommend ppl watch.

My only complaint is I need a freaking excel spreadsheet to keep track of all the superhero shows I watch now.

That was way better then I was expecting, went from lukewarm to excited for the series.

Love this show already. Black Lightning is already a seasoned vet and not making dumb fucking decisions like Barry every second.

Need to find a place to watch this online. Does DC or ... WB? have their own online streaming service or is this a wait til netflix situation. Same with the animated Vixen thing.

I could have swore I read a quote awhile ago that Thunder and Lightning would be in the show.

CW has an app that you can watch their shows for free I believe.

This was better than I was expecting and I was already really looking forward to it, I thought this was one of the best first episodes any superhero show has ever received.

And my main exposure to Cress Williams before this was Hart of Dixie so it was quite the trip seeing him here.

They've already released a promo photo of Anissa in costume.

Someone pointed out on Twitter that he hasn't been BL for 9 years... which means he rested for the Obama admin, but had to come back for 45s...

Wow Black Lightning Era(probably gotta be something shorter) I'm pretty disappointed in you guys. I wish I was here watching live with you guys cause no one made a reference to the fact that in Injustice 2 Black Lightning is a premier skin for Raiden so they just gonna have Raiden in his show being his mentor. As soon as I seen who Gambi was I saw it. Great episode and I love that it's black as fuck so I'm all the way in.

James Remar was backup Raiden. Now if it was Christopher Lambert in the show, then we could talk.

Oh man is this good?! I usually hate TV superhero shows-- pretty boring. Does this stand out at all?

Oh you're right! I tend to forget that Mortal Kombat: Annihilation exist but he did play Raiden in that.

I'm praying this show stays good. Far too many shows have killer premieres then that's it.

This show is good. It way more mature than the other 4 other arrowverse shows. I hope this pave a way for a Static Shock TV in the future since I want to see Virgil and his buddy Gear taking down the bang babies.

My sister and I were actually there, on Saturday.

Fun panel! Glad I was able to push to get out there, in spite of being sick!

YOOO THIS WAS SO GOOD

I went in expecting nothing and my brain is melting right now

One a side note: I was getting serious Person of Interest vibes after the club scene. Man in a suit comes out, cops show up, music playing... And then the badassery commences. Shit is good.

Man, this left a fucking great first impression. But it's got me uncomfortable as hell, bringing back some bad memories from my childhood.

I'm in. Can't wait until the daughters show out.

I've enjoyed all the Berlanti shows to varying degrees over the years, but I'm glad to see this isn't a carbon copy. It feels like it has a different tone and voice and it's very refreshing at the moment. Great beginning, better than I hoped.

Damn, that was so good. Loved that look at his old costume.

Are we sure this isn't set on Earth-1? They did mention other superheroes.

"I say this with all due respect, but they're not really relevant to the show that we're doing," Akil said. "The great thing that Warner Bros. and CW allowed us to do was create our own world. We really wanted folk to get to know this family before we started branching out."
"As far as I know everyone's always wanted [Black Lightning to be separate]." Berlanti revealed. "Salim wants that. And the studio and the network want that. They're very different tonal shows. As people watch them. I'm not sure they could sort of ever quite imagine yet how we would be able to ever connect those things. It's always existed outside."

So while it's not entirely out of the question, they really want it to be it's own thing for now.

Damn. Went in with zero expectations and honesty a little apprehensive on if they could do the black lense justice...But damn, damn if they didn't just nail this 110%.

Blown away honestly and I'm in for it.

They played this show for the most part pretty gritty, straight with issues facing Black people with police brutality and gang violence
TO the point that the Heros and powers part almost seemed out of place to be honest

But I give them credit for keeping it level... they had no cheesy CW-ness, and didn't seem like any other Berlantiverse show, not even Arrow.... so thats a good thing

I am not saying I like this show, but the premiere wasn't bad... not sure how much longer I could watch it, but it doesn;t suck at least

Just finished watching (had to get through Supergirl, The Gifted, and the Flash all tonight) and hot damn this shit is hot. I was entertained from start to finish. Didn't think Cress was gonna be all that great, but I've turned around on that one. What makes me a little mad is that this show is a little "too" good, haha. Like, I can't see this world in the same world as Flash, Arrow, or Supergirl. They feel so tonally different. Even how it's shot is just so much better than the other CW shows. It LOOKS like a high quality show and not a lower budget shot in a Vancouver warehouse type of show. Of course the first seasons of Arrow, Flash, and Supergirl looked way better too. Once you get past that 1st season they seem to lower the budget, shoot on location less, and keep everything to the same 3/4 sets.

If they EVER do a crossover with the other shows, I really hope they get the show runners/directors from Black Lightning to helm the show thing. I'd love to see the other CW shows look this good and feel a bit more real sometimes.

Yes, shooting in Toronto, as opposed to Vancouver is a huge boon to the show (or basically anywhere NOT Vancouver)
Every Vancouver show starts to look the same, not just location wise but the talent in Vancouver is very apparent and is running low on ideas

By that same token, Titans show should also be pretty decent

What? They film in Atlanta. And Riverdale looks pretty damn distinct from the other Vancouver shows.

This was a good first episode. As much as I would like to have it be in the arrowverse, I think it should be its own thing for now.

This show is BLACK AS FUCK & it's glorious. Premiere was fantastic, sat down & watched it with my Dad earlier, first CW hero show he's been interested in. He immediately set up the DVR to record all future episodes once it was over lol

Damn, that was lit.

Except the costume. "I've been working on something new. Something better tacky as fuck."

Yeah, I'm not the biggest fan of the costume but in motion isn't doesn't look too bad.

Overall thought it was a really strong premiere, and agree it has a different vibe than the other Arrowverse shows.

Can't believe the youngest daughter is Jasmine from House of Payne. Man, time flies.

When you think your boss is bad, be glad he doesn't harpoon you to get results.
