Just thought I'd check out the original One Day at a Time because I liked the reboot and it's interesting how they just took the very basic premise of the show and totally went in a different direction.
It's weird that the original isn't on Netflix... I guess someone else owns the rights to it.

Not show related but Netflix continues to just burn money away on... questionable content huh?

(Obviously talking about Cloverfield)

Sorta kinda starting to get worried tbh because I do love the service and unlike many (most? Lol) around here I do like the majority of their shows.

Edit: then again they said Bright was a success right? By whatever metrics they use so I dunno.

I still have a fairly sizable list to work through on Netflix, and I also still like a majority of their content. I just really need to find the time.

Netflix simply releases too many shows. I watch an ungodly amount of TV and there are dozens of Netflix shows I want to check out but don't have the time for. I wish they would slow it down for a bit.

That Netflix backlog. (Currently: The Crown, Narcos, Punisher, half of S2 Stranger Things, Rita, Dirk Gently, and so on.)

They know exactly what they're doing. The Adam Sandler movies have been enormously successful for them, as has Bright. Cloverfield probably will be as well.

About what? They're making a shit ton of money and they're investing it into all sorts of neat things, from a big budget cyberpunk series to an adaptation of The Dark Crystal (complete with puppets!), to a western anthology written and directed by the Coen brothers.

No one is even coming close to doing what Netflix is doing.

Man it's insane looking at everything that will come out in April. I'll be watching The Originals S5 (April 20), Westworld S2 (April 22), The Handmaid's Tale S2 (April 25) and Legion S2 is supposed to come out the same month too? Holy damn I'm ready for all this good tv watching!

Andrew Davies To Adapt John Updike's 'Rabbit, Run' Novels For Lookout Point
John Updike's controversial Rabbit, Run novels are to be adapted for television after War and Peace producer Lookout Point optioned the rights. The BBC Worldwide-backed production company has brought on board Pride and Prejudice and Bridget Jones' Diary writer Andrew Davies to pen the remake.

Davies will adapt Updike's four novels, which tell the story of former high school basketball player Harry "Rabbit" Angstrom, who escapes his small-town life, where he trapped in a loveless marriage and a boring sales job, for the small screen for the first time.

Sunday night's ratings. The Super Bowl LII almost hit 100 million...almost. We'll find out the final ratings later today. Fast Nationals are almost always wildly inflated:

Netflix Nabs Ryan Murphy Series 'The Politician'; Ben Platt Set, Barbra Streisand & Gwyneth Paltrow In Talks To Star
In a very competitive situation, Netflix has landed The Politician, a new hourlong comedy series from longtime collaborators Brad Falchuk, Ian Brennan and Ryan Murphy, I have learned. The project, starring Tony winner Ben Platt (Dear Evan Hanson), with Oscar winners Barbra Streisand and Gwyneth Paltrow in negotiations to co-star, has received a two-season straight-to-series order, I hear.
The deal, believed to be the biggest TV package sale of the year, came after a week-long bidding war among top streaming players, including Amazon and Hulu, sources said. It gives prolific creator/producer Murphy two series on Netflix, along with the upcoming Ratched.
...
Details about the plot and characters in The Politician are being kept under wraps but, according to a source close to the show, it revolves around the politician aspirations of Platt's Payton, a wealthy Santa Barbarian, and every season will revolve around a different political race that character is involved in.
Does Ryan Murphy sleep, like at all?
edit:
I hear that Platt will have musical numbers in several episodes of the show. That, along with the potential involvement of Paltrow and Streisand, helped drive interest in the project, sparking a heated bidding and leading to the big Netflix deal.
what even is this show?

Despite overall low ratings and boycotts or whatever through the season, the numbers still look realllllly high.

Super unlikely. It might get a super small release in a few theatres and areas, but with the response and that story of Paramount not having faith in it back in January, this might be all we get.

Given the way the movie is being reviewed I say no. I don't think Netflix has ever done that with a movie they own unless we count Annihilation.

Netflix has given a few of their movies limited day-and-date theatrical releases for Oscar consideration, but I can't imagine they'd do that after it had already been released on Netflix itself (especially given the mixed/negative reception for the film).

Which shouldn't count, it'll only hit theaters in US and China since Paramount didn't sell those distribution rights. Unless it's something with awards potential (Beasts of No Nation, some docs), Netflix isn't going to put anything in theaters.

I think it's telling that even Netflix didn't want to do much promo for The Cloverfield Paradox. A pair of Super Bowl ads and a quick dump. They get people interested out of the sheer craziness of an instant release and they get some free publicity out of that story in the media, but it sure doesn't sound like anyone was confident this thing would have real good word of mouth.

So it looks like HBO has another dud on their hands with Here and Now. I can't believe a drama from Alan Ball is launching with this little fanfare.

It's getting savaged by critics. I'm disappointed - was hoping for the next Six Feet Under.

Oh, no way... Reviews must have just dropped since I was on the lookout. Man. That is a bummer. I was looking forward to it.

Edit: only seeing 5 reviews so far, hopefully some people will have a more favorable impression of it. I like Alan Ball's self-seriousness as the critics call it so I'm still hopeful. Might also be one of those shows that takes some eps to get good.

Alan Sepinwall and Brian Grubb also strongly disliked it on their podcast.

Le sigh. That's disheartening. Especially since Sepinwall I know gives everything a very fair shake. Thanks for the info though. I'm still holding out hope that Ball will make a true successor to SFU. I wonder if critics would like SFU as much if it was a new show today. (I think they probably would.)

The Good Doctor going full House now by adding an Amber character type. It has singlehandedly made the show unwatchable for me.

Arnold Schwarzenegger To Topline 'Outrider' Western Event TV Series In Works At Amazon
Amazon is developing Outrider, an event series with Arnold Schwarzenegger attached to star and executive produce, Deadline has learned. Also executive producing the project is Mace Neufeld, exec producer of Amazon's upcoming series Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan.

Co-written/executive produced by Trey Calloway (APB, The Messengers, CSI: NY) and Mark Montgomery, Outrider is a mystery set in the Oklahoma Indian Territory in the late 1800s. It tells the dark and dangerous tale of a deputy who is not only tasked by a notoriously brutal judge with apprehending a legendary outlaw in the wilderness – but must also partner with a ruthless Federal Marshall to make sure justice is properly served. And as the story unfolds, not only will enemies become allies, but a series of unpredictable surprises will blur the line between good guys and bad.

Austrian-born Schwarzenegger would play the Federal Marshal who immigrated to the US from Europe as a child.

Woops, my apologies to whomever put in the "Magic is dead title", I was didn't notice it until after I sent for title change.

And I'm not exactly surprised. The reboot didn't seem to take. Like at all.

Finally got around to watching AP Bio and found it hilarious. Hopefully it does well.
Still have no idea why NBC premiered one episode on TV and then put the Olympics on and show the second episode almost a month after the fact if you don't view it online. Why didn't they just wait until the Olympics we're done and start the show then?

I am fucking IN, dream show of Arnold + western set in the early 1800s. I'm glad Arnold is moving to TV, it really is the best medium for him right now.

So I guess I'm glad the last episode I watched of OUAT is the last season finale, the show was hilariously bad in the last season or two, did the reboot season get better or go down in quality below Hades?

It's not official, but the Benioff/Weiss Star Wars announcement most likely means that Confederate is dead. I imagine HBO has been looking for an excuse to put it "on hold" for a while now, after being caught off guard by the completely justified backlash.
