Hey - how are couples doing at using this?

My wife doesn't like going to the movies as much as I do, so getting her a MoviePass feels like a waste, but I'd like to make sure we sit together (our local theater is reserved seating only). My solution thus far has been to make those the exceptions where I buy tickets, but I wasn't sure if there was a better way.

Additionally - any AMC people know if we can use Stubs alongside this?

Soooo... there is the correct, follow the rules answer and the chaotic evil lawbreaker answer.

The follow the rules answer is as everyone said, buy 1 ticket with MP and another ticket with your own CC.

The "chaotic evil, you will eventually get banned although moviepass has no way to know right now" answer is you go ahead of time (days ahead), check in for a movie that matches the exact price of the real movie you want to see, and buy 1 advance ticket for the "real" movie you want to see. Then the next day come back and do the same thing and hope nobody reserved the seat next to the first one. This IS against MoviePass TOS, but right now they only see from most movie theater chains (AMC, Regal) that you paid $x for a movie ticket, they don't get the level 3 metadata of what movie you saw, what date/time, how many tickets, etc. That data COULD be transmitted from theaters to debit networks (moviepass) anytime but afaik the big ones do not. Yes, this is incredibly silly/stupid since you are going to the theater, buying a ticket, and then going back home but if you live 1-2 miles away its not a big deal I guess.

Honestly I just got 2 moviepass cards for me and my wife, if she sees at least ONE movie a month it pays for itself and a lot of times if I go see a movie alone I'll buy a second ticket on her card and ask a buddy or whatever if they want to see it with me. I keep both cards with me. The second card came within 10 days of signing up, so it seems like they are sending them out WAY faster nowadays - took ~4 weeks for my card to arrive back when they announced the change.

Re: AMC stubs, yes it currently works fine with MoviePass especially if you use the automated kiosk machines. The stubs TOS says moviepass cards are not eligible for rewards but they are currently not enforcing it. You really need stubs premiere for stubs to be worth a damn, and you just missed out on October 1-31 where they doubled all purchases. With 2 $12 tickets I was getting $4.80 in reward points every visit with premiere and double points (only $2.40 now after today), I'm saving all those points up for after MoviePass changes and I have to go back to paying for movies.

Also, definitely subscribe to AMC's email newsletter and/or text messages because they often have extra bonus promos there (which you must manually activate). This past weekend for example you could've earned an extra 1,500 Stubs points by seeing Jigsaw during opening weekend. They do stuff like that frequently and you can quickly rack up even more Stubs points.

The new TOS are there simply so MoviePass can cut out people who are clearly using their service "too much", and they can decide what too much is whenever they need to kick someone specific out.
I'm going to stop you right there because that verbiage was already in the old version of the ToS

27.3 Capped Plans - MoviePass may make changes to any products or services offered on the Site, or to the applicable prices for any such products or services, at any time, without prior notice. MoviePass reserves the right to change the rules of movie-going attendance and ticket availability to members at anytime. MoviePass reserves the right to change from time to time the number of eligible movies a member can see per month. MoviePass reserves the right to offer members a new price option if they exceed watching a certain amount of movies per month. You will be notified of any changes made to the terms of service prior to your next billing cycle, at which point you would have 14 days to opt-out of the service. MoviePass will not make any changes to your plan mid-cycle, all changes will be in affect at the start of your next billing cycle. MoviePass is not responsible for theater programming, cancellations, or rescheduled performances.

Thanks Null, people going back and forth on this is super confusing.
It's because it used to a rule and it was in the original terms of service. They sent out an updated ToS yesterday but didn't remove the rule, causing confusion among those who only read the updated version.

It's all been cleared up now since they fixed the ToS and now it doesn't have the restriction

Now this may be weird, but is there anything preventing you from pre-ordering tickets with MoviePass?

Like does it only work on purchases day of or specifically for the movie you request?

No I get that

I guess what asking
What's to stop me from like "checking in" a ticket for... Jigsaw today and going and pre-ordering a ticket for Orient Express instead?

Nothing is stopping you. The transaction will go through.

It is against the TOS, though. Use at your own risk.

So, are there any major pratfalls to signing up for this thing, or should I be good to go if it sounds like something I'd use?

How is everyone finding the movie selections so far?

I did it for TLK. Worked flawlessly.

Ha not saying I'm doing it, but was just a thought I had since work next to a theater

Could probably pre-order TLJ or Justice League tickets and not worry about being sold out opening night

That's funny. Will they really enforce the number of times you can see a movie? That's dumb. What if I really liked Blade runner 2049 and I wanted to watch it twice(I did)? Oh well, it's still 9.99 a month. I would even pay 15.99 a month. I made my money back in spades. I spent so much more on concession too.

So I don't know if it was just a glitch

But the other night me and my mom have a card

I was signed into my phone and I checked in and bought a ticket. I signed out and into hers, but it showed she had already bought a ticket.

Do they not allow more than one device/sign ins?

Might try again to see if it was just an anomaly.

How many times does this myth have to be debunked? You can watch a movie as many times as you want.
So I can't watch the movies on opening day anymore ?
Where did that come from? I already bought my ticket for Thor tonight. It worked flawlessly

I haven't used my pass in about a week but I had no issues doing this for a month+ since I got the card. My friend and I both purchased a card and I just buy both of our tickets individually when we are at the theater. Never ran into an issue like you just described but they could have changed things recently. I'll be going tomorrow wither her to see Thor so I'll let ya know if I have a similar issue or not.

If it's like my local theater, what they did is ONLY had it showing in premium showings.

The 2D was called a "big screen" though was regular matinee prices. I asked the employee, and they said they did this on purpose.

Just a note: this was a non brand theater. Not an AMC, Cinemark, etc. Those worked fine.

Might be the case?

I decided to sign up after trying some theaters with pretty good standard seats. Just waiting on the card.

Still probably going with IMAX for the occasional movie. But a good deal for the rest.

I bought moviepass for my son and he doesn't have a phone. Is there a way to log myself out of the iPhone app and log in as him? I can't find the option to log out.

My girlfriend and I had MoviePasses for a year and a half back when it was ~$40/month. Despite the restrictions back then, such as the limit to rewatching any movie and a 24-hour time limit between movies instead of a once-per-day restriction, it was still worth it. We canceled when the price went up another $5/month and they added ticket caps for users during peak hours....

BUT, they seem to have stripped out all of those restrictions in this new version! It took 7 weeks for me to get my new MP, but I've used it a dozen times in the last few weeks! It's better than ever, and MUCH cheaper than ever!

The new TOS updates look really shitty, though. I wish they'd just set a god damn limit per month instead of this pseudo-"unlimited" bullshit. Tell us we're limited to 10 movies a month, or whatever, instead of telling us it's unlimited but holding the threat of additional charges over our heads.

EDIT - I also REALLY wish you could link multiple cards. My girlfriend and I each have a MP; why can't we link them to buy two tickets in one card in one transaction so long as it disables the other card for that day?

I just really learned about this.

How does it work? You pay them 10 bucks a month, you get one movie that you can watch every day, rewatches are allowed, and no blackout dates. You can watch something like The Last Jedi on opening night. Presumably moviepass will pay the movie theater the ticket price every time you go watch a movie, which would be anywhere from 5 - 12 bucks or whatever per viewing.

It doesn't seem like a sustainable business model to me. I would probably watch the same movie like 5-6 times or more in one month, if I really enjoyed it. Plus I would go other times just to see movies that are out there, just because. I would probably use the service 20 times a month or more.
