Also, Taco Bell is the least mexican food you can eat.

Are you telling me that Doritos tacos and Enchuritos are not time honored Mexican dishes?

Favorite KOF and characters? How is the arcade scene in Mexico?
Arcades are called "maquinitas" here ("little machines" would be the literal translation).

They are still popular, but not as much as when I was young. After high school, most students would to the arcades to play "retas" ("matches") and the most popular games were King of Fighters and Marvel vs Capcom. You could find big arcade establishments, bust, but the most where in little shops in the corner selling snacks and only one or two arcade machines. You had dozens of guys trying to beat a single guy.

Not really for wrestling. A lot of Americans see pro wrestling as the poor white trash sport. As a worker that used to work Indy shows in Kentucky and Tennessee, the majority of fans are lower class and or in poverty. More than likely it's because pro wrestling came from the old circus shows from long ago. There is a reason we call each other "carnies" as a joke.

As for a question for OP, is Mexican style foods spicy down south? Here in the US a lot of our Mexican restaurants lay in the spices and everything is hot. I was told by some that authentic Mexican food in Mexico is no where as spicy. Just would like your thoughts.
I'm not OP, but lol. Real Mexican food is very, very spicy. Of course we have food that is not, though.

Well I have a very American question :)

What fast food chain bares the closest resemblance to authentic Mexican food (if one even exists)?
None. Authentic mexican food is like soul food. You won't see this
DSC3174.jpg

on any one chain food store. Also there are no good Mexican fast food joints through Mexico. Better trust local taco trucks or places.

Why are Mexican luchadores awesome?

Also what do you think of Tex mex food

Mexican lucha has a ton of tradition and is ingrained in the Mexican psyque. I love tex mex. It is not mexican though but I enjoy it!

Are people still super religious were you live or is there more 'diversity' now?

I'm a Christian myself, but not a conservative. I like and support science, I support LGBT rights. It's mostly the older people who is ultra-conservative Catholic. But the country has made a lot of progress in that regard, but still needs more.

Same-sex marriage is accepted and legal in a lot of states, but people still freak out.

Going to Monterrey in a few hours. For work, so I do not have the time for tourism, but I would love to have real typical (not for tourist s) food.
What should I order?

In general, the further south you go, the spicier the food. Does not apply to sea food, which is very spicy on the north. Not all food is hot, though. It depends. Many Mexicans do not enjoy super hot food, which used to be viewed as "gay", but I believe that is antiquated. Please enjoy Mexican food as hot or mild as you like.

Any recommendations for current Mexican filmmakers that might not be as popular in the US or other parts of the world yet?

What does the general Mexican population think about the orange cunt in the north?

And! What are the coldest months? I wouldn't mind going to Mexico but I dislike warm climates

It's always been difficult for me to accept that Monterrey is right-leaned, as I'm pretty much as progressive as you can get and I've lived here my whole life, I've always been in el Tec the Monterrey(Prepa, Carrera, Maestria) so being in the College environment might affect my perception.

But yeah, considering how el PAN dominates in here, I can see it, and I'm hardcore about LGBT activism, and I hope that it will get better in here soon. At least the SCJN seems to be progressive and pro LGBT rights and they have the final say in many things, I mean, gay marriage is already the law of the country thanks to them.

I find it so weird that PRD and PAN are getting together, as someone that votes for LGBT rights, what in the hell am I even supposed to do? lol

And hello indeed, fellow Atheist.
Hi me too, its huh, difficult being LGBT Atheist in Durango :/
My dream is moving somewhere else but im still undecided if i even can or where.it depends on many things.is there a Gay help center in Monterrey i can donate to i tried searching for one but could only find in DF

In Mexico City you can't throw a rock without hitting a gay couple. Especially around the aptly named Zona Rosa (Pink Zone). Which is honestly a pretty awesome part of the city if you like Korean food.

Last time I saw statistics, 98% of Mexicans hate him and he even made people think that our awful president isn't that bad.

So thanks, I guess.

Monterrey is not known a Tourist place so you won't see many Tourist food places. It is also not know for its food though, in spite of what the locals might want to convince you of.

Cabrito is a local delicatessen and you might want to try that. I do not enjoy it, but would not discourage you from it.
Try tamales and tacos of different meats. Also try some steak, meat is not that great but they make up for it by their cooking techniques

I would say cabritos, but it's expensive. Carne asada is more typical actually.

does a sandwich like this really cost 3.70$ down there?

Yes.

But please note that that cost is also related to cost of living and average wages so it's cheap for you but not for all.

Not all Mexico is zona rosa though, hate is real in other places. Gays can't get married in many states.

Narcos is a complicated issue.

You shouldn't fear for your parents though, unless they are going through rough patches in town. There are zones in the US where I would not enter and they are not run by Zetas

It all sucks.

PRI is the corrupt party that has rules the country for the vast majority of the last century.
PAN is the crazy religious/conservative party
PRD is the left leaning party that is all for gay marriage so I like them, but they are allying themselves with El PAN so lmao
Morena is basically communism, and they might win so we're fucked.

Btw, for English speakers who want to see Mexico from the perspective of a British expat, I very strongly recommend the "True Mexico" YouTube channel.

Pretty much everyone acknowledges that all of our political parties are terrible. However, people with low education will mostly vote for PRI, which is the party that has looted the country for more than 75 years.

"They always win anyways, and they will give me a lunch if I vote for them" is the unfortunate mentality of a huge number of people.

The upcoming elections are going to be tough... All of the candidates are terrible. We have one guy who believes that extracting petroleum is just as easy as digging a whole and inserting a hose...

¡Qué onda, chamacos! I'm from Guanajuato!

Do people actually hate El Chavo in Mexico or is it just a rumor?
I actually love it! But only the first seasons were the best. Here's an extract of such a funny moment from the first episodes when Don Ramon is trying to make a lame sandwich after he broke his leg and El Chavo comes in to ruin everything hah. The series went downhill when two of the funniest characters drop off the show due to creative differences (Don Ramon and Quico). Also, the cast was growing old and they begin to look akward dressesd as children so it wasn't funny anymore.

Who are you going to vote for president?

I'll probably go PAN, just because it's the less worse choice among them right now even tough I'm not into conservative politics but at least they're not totally crazy like American conservatives
Even though Mexican politics in general is absolutely pathetic and corrupted no matter the political party, yeah I think the "menos peor" option right now is the Anaya guy.

How big are the Shonen anime in Mexico? You know, Dragon Ball, Naruto, Captain Tsubasa etc
OP already answered but yeah. Anime in general is HUGE in here. Bigger than Marvel/DC comics even though, that stuff is also very popular here. Lot's of big stores or "plazas" dedicated exclusively to sell anime/geeky stuff with tables especifically designed for Yu-Gi-Oh matches and several Pump-it-Up arcades too they actually still do monthly contests and all. Dragon Ball is literally like a religion here hah

Their neighborhood is not the worst, luckily. They are old and keep to themselves. But we all know someone who has been a victim of violence. Some..no longer here.

Morena is not communism. It's more like institutionalized socialism couple with crony unions and spiced up with "repentant" ex-PRI members. Morena = AMLO.

They are going to win next elections.
