I really hope more give it a chance, it is really a fun game.

I love kojima but let's move on.

I'm not fussed about Kojima. I'm not giving this game a chance because I love MGS for its cinematic espionage not its co-op zombie shooting. If they make a traditional MGS next then I'll definitely pick it up.

If this game was called "Mars Gardener Survive" and was the exact same game, would you give it a chance?

There are cassette tapes, yes. I haven't seen a proper long cutscene again yet, but from the launch trailer we know there are.
So far the streamer has been exploring, finding survivors and memory boards and the only cutscenes were the codec convos.
There are also music cassette tapes btw, lol. With Peace Walker music and such. You can play the music at your base camp to raise morale apparently.
Good to know. Any licensed music? Noooow sure as the sun will cross the skyy this lie is ooover

Technically, we dont really know how cinematic this sucker will get. Server setbacks means no one has yet completed story mode but it seems at least more varied than the co-op.
*shrugs*
Only time will tell. I'm watching this thread like a hawk though.

I can definitely tell you that at the start the game has quite a few cutscenes and they then basically entirely stop.
The streamer I am watching is in Chapter 13 and there hasn't been a cutscene since I think Chapter 2

Im reserving judgement until someone completes this thing. If it has some epic bosses, I'll throw my cash at it.
Streamer has not been fighting a boss. So far the chapters basically end after you fulfill the "main task" which is pretty much "find a survivor" or "enable a driller". I think this is still just all "explore map and build base" stuff before the "real" story starts

Best Buy GCU + the $10 GC has this coming out to $24 so I'll give it a shot. The beta was interesting.

Play this alongside the Main series, no reason you cant try it out at least, looks promising to me, but I too am not fussed about Kojima so I won't boycott a game because he's not attached to it (not saying that to you personally), not to mention MGS V was atrocious and that had Kojima attached to it.

Those are like, what, 1:1 odds?
naw its got to be slanted for flop to lose, who is picking that it wont given the circumstances surrounding it?

I dunno, maybe, who knows. Do you have stock in Konami?

After seeing some of this new monster shit, I'm down. Ordered it today.

naw lol Im just kidding around. The game doesnt have the core audience and its not really big for the casual audience in the same way cod is, then combine that with Konami just being inept as ever and it just has all the workings of a flop to me

How much do we think this is going to flop, im taking bets

Honestly, this seems like it has the potential to do decently. People who played it seem to agree that it is not a dumpster fire, i wouldn't really put any bets on this game as it's performance could go either way. Sure it might not sell as much as the later MGS games, but i could see this turning a profit.

I mean that would depend on the budget and everything given its pretty much an asset flip

Game is niche. It won't sell millions but funnily enough it is actually getting good word of mouth from people who enjoy these kind of games

It's lower budget for sure and it reuses a lot of elements from V, but calling it an asset flip is pretty demeaning towards the amount of new work that has clearly gone into the product.

Game is currently #95 on Twitch, with 650 people watching overall.

wtf
it's only out on console in like two regions right now
i also don't think that Konami paid the usual influencers for it and it's a game that hasn't been marketed for at all
the amount of noise about it is tiny
we'll get some articles and clickbait "this sucks" video soon though i am sure

Anyone? Trying to work out if I should get the PS4 version just in case it turns out to be great and I can convince friends to get it, or if the PC version will look significantly better than the Pro version and I should just get that.
The PC version depends on your hardware of course, but I was getting 4k/60 on my 1080ti and i7 4770k. I'm going with PC, but I guess it doesn't come out til tomorrow?

Decided since I can't play till Thursday I'll boot back up MGSV and play it again till then.

Then when I started the game I was reminded all my other save files were on my old original PS4 before I upgraded to the Pro.

Metal Gear Survive is a video game that was unessecary. A flawed concept for a game but still understood due to the fact it allows people to take part in the fox engine yet again which is undoubtedly entertaining. The whole problem lies in the inclusion of online services because what about those that favour single player experiences? I mean it even has a campaign mode. Metal Gear is primarily a single player type of game and this is just nonesense against the consumer as if they are being tracked by developers for fan feeback for the game. Gameplay wise this is an amazing fun-time and go-to game. Any sale figures that I'm not bothered to google because I'm sad the series had to end like this. Unless somebody pulls out something great for Metal Gear again like ground-up remakes of past titles.

I'm disappointed the PC release is tomorrow at 7 PM EST. We kept hearing it'll be on the 20th, then it gets delayed for some reason.

I'm not particularly enjoying my time with it, I'm a strong "fuck Konami" type and there are definitley a lot of cut corners but this is in no way comparable to an asset flip.

Credit should always be given where it's due and it's clear that the team on this thing has some real passion for it. There's a lot of new neat stuff and things that the marketing and Beta hid and they deserve to commended for it. Let's not be totally ignorant, yeah?

Also, you just made me defend Konami. I hope you're happy with yourself.

Any difficulty selector for the single player campaing ? this look interesting for survival aspect, it just want the game to be somewhat challenging. Someone can comment on that ?

Asset flip is probably the wrong term, I just mean they dont have to do a full engine, new character models, ect... Im not even saying it in a bad way, thats just kind of what it is in the same way Persona 3->4 or OoT->MM was. Doesnt mean it cant be good, it just takes less resources to make so they dont have to sell as many copies to profit

In one of the earlier pages someone mentioned an "emergence offline mode" incase you can't connect. Do we know anymore about this. Or can anyone confirm?

No difficulty selector.

In my 8 hours of playtime, I haven't had any trouble. I did die a few times but that was me being careless. Not crafting any fences and being stubborn by just using a spear, lol.

Other than that, nothing hard...for now.

The Mist adds a layer of difficulty..kinda sorta. It's darker so it's a little harder to see things. You also can't see yourself on the map, nor can you place a marker to help guide you. You can, however, run towards these lights you see in the sky, which helps you get out of the Mist.

As long as you craft things and upgrade your equipment, you should be fine. Early game is where you'll find the most difficulty since you have your hunger and thirst to worry about. You'll eventually get that under control as well.

I've been having a great time with the game.

OK SO IM 6-8 HOURS DEEP IN CAMPAIGN (no unmarked story spoilers, mechanic "spoilers" in paragraph 2 onward).

This is a real ass game. They put in the time and effort to genuinely make some interesting and fun mechanics.

In my mind they succeeded in what Ubisoft wanted to do in The Division's Dark Zone. There are areas of the map with better loot, that makes you use an oxygen tank, and contains a higher concentration of enemies.

The base building mechanic feels like the natural evolution of the Mother Base management.

The enemy designs are great.
The bloodborne-esque Cthulu kaijus. Fucking stellar.

So far there's only been one or two minor issues I've hit:
  • Not having the ability to purify water with the base campfire they give you is annoying.
  • Respawn rate for the items on the map/base cycles feel a tad long.

Despite pre-ordering amazon wouldn't deliver until Thursday. Maybe they didn't bother getting a lot of copies ready.

What about them? It has single player as you said.

Got it. Initially, I was unimpressed... to put it kindly. I genuinely think that first showing was not very good. However, over time, they introduced many new mechanics and even put out a couple of beta tests, and I think that helped this game tremendously. They had a steep uphill battle to climb, but they managed to win me over— even if just for this one game.
