Was pleasantly surprised at hearing the classic MGS theme during the credits.

I'd give this a shot if it weren't a microtransaction platform with an always online requirement.
I just watched the credits roll after playing for 27 hours, and at no point did I feel that the game was pushing me to spend cash on anything it lets you pay for. The game has microtransactions, yes, but it doesn't shove them down your throat.

The online requirement does suck though. It feels pointless for the majority of the game. I've only run into one disconnect though.

Unless you're keeping them fully geared up, you're getting enough materials to craft somewhere between 2-10 bullets every 20 minutes. Not very efficient.

Well, this is not actually what efficiency means. It's getting the most out of time spent so the most efficient way to play the game is to have salvage missions going while you do other things.

The game is TOTALLY DOABLE & ENJOYABLE without this being a factor.

Ok but it is a factor and it certainly is a decent boost to gain ~200 bullet crafting materials per hour that you can use to shoot all those cool guns. You get about a clip and half per hour with even the most expensive bullets I've gotten so far (7.62)

I'm at this point in the game where I can expand my base, and it seems like it's the next story mission...but I can't do the base expansion in the construction hud. It looks like there might be obstructions on the outside of my base that won't let me build on them, but I can't do anything about them...I can't scrap them because they're not in my base, and they're too large to damage with any of my weapons.

I've been out of the loop on this game the past couple days, do we know what the new co-op modes will be coming in March? If you've seen my previous posts in here I may sound like a broken record, but I'm almost holding off on this game until they say I can play though the main campaign with friends (if they ever do that). I feel that was the marketing pitch before release and they kinda duped us by only having co-op be the salvage mode, which to me is fun, but not nearly as appealing.

Credits are rolling on the single player. Really enjoyed the final chapter and wish there were more missions like it along the way. My enjoyment decreased a bit in the back half of the game. The enemies introduced towards the end of the game are more annoying than interesting. The loot loop in the game also feels a tad on the slow side. Base development and crew management are half-baked. More missions types would have also been welcome. I think my biggest issue with the game is that the explorable areas all fairly small which is disappointing considering how much asset recycling was used from MGS5. The story is way better than I expected from a non-Kojmia, Metal Gear spin-off with zombies. All-and-all, it's a solid game and I enjoyed my time with it but it does feel like they didn't take full advantage of the systems they created.

p.s. Bow + Fire Arrows are overpowered. :p

Random things I liked:

-Locking picking mechanic is brilliant from a stealth aspect.
-Reclaiming shot arrows.

Disappointments:

-Broken Gear/Weapon Schematics.
-After the first few hours, the survival aspects (oxygen, water, food) aren't much of an issue.
-The skill tree is pretty bare bones and uninteresting.

Just spent an hour hunting for steel to build ramps and machine guns in my base. Went to put the machine guns on the ramps and... I guess you can't put them on elevated surfaces in the base builder?? :(

You should be able to deconstruct them even if they're outside your base at that point.

Not sure about the persistence but if you have the machine guns you can craft and carry with you, maybe try deploying them instead?

So every single time I try and start up the game it crashes when it tries to connect to the servers. Every single time.

Restarted my PC and it did the same thing. Uninstalled, hopefully it'll work afterwards as I saw zero mention of this happening on any of Google or forums. It's real weird since the game was running fine for the past week.

EDIT: Nope, not even uninstalling fixed it, what the hell?

I'm about halfway through (I think) and for any SCP fans (don't know if anyone brought this up yet), does this game remind anyone else of this?

http://www.scp-wiki.net/scp-093

And just in general, it very much feels like what I'd imagine a Mobile Task Force SCP game would hypothetically be like. I'm really enjoying it.

Man, this game is getting ripped apart online! Obligatory fuck Konami. Thanks to Amazon.ca I got this game Friday (Guess they wanted to ship it at the same time as Past Cure) and I just spent about 15 hours this weekend on it. I am absolutely loving it. The gameplay loop is just so addictive and the game gives you a slow but steady drip of new things to build and craft that I just couldn't put it down all weekend. Last night I tried the salvage missions online and had a blast. I understand why people may not like it and it totally blows when you die and have to recollect everything again on the way to the objective but I adore it. Regarding MTX, yes the pay to win shit is lame as hell but its just as egregious as every other AAA game that complaining about it is just pointless.

Gahhhhh, I need a ton of steel but I can't find much at all.

You can convert other materials into steel at the gadgets table. Very annoying you can only craft 1 at a time though. One of my dislikes about the game.

What I like doing is traveling to the other teleporters and checking the small rooms around them. Rinse and repeat for however many teleporters you have access to.

My two biggest complaints are what you mentioned above (let me just select a figure rather than holding down a button for ages for crafting) and the AI never shutting. the. fuck. up.

Apart those I'm still really enjoying it, the loot aspect is hooking me (and I need a development team to help craft a legendary weapon I got :( ) and it's quite addictive to go out hunting for recipes/blueprints.

Yea, the AI does get annoying. I know my oxygen is low. I know I'm hungry. I know I need to recover my stamina...SHUT UP! Lol

One thing that would have been cool is to find a walkman so you could listen to all the songs you find while out in the field. Being in the most while listening to the jungle theme from Contra sounds fun!

If you want to unlock gestures, you need to spend SV coins...but I was able to find a gesture in one of those hidden boxes. Maybe you can unlock them all without having to spend SV? Or maybe I'm just getting ahead of myself and that was a one time thing. Who knows. Curious to see how many of these boxes there are in the world.

Well, the latter is an issue despite that, and by the sounds of it, salvaging ammunition seems to be tedious to all who don't pony up the money or grind.
If you mark the area where you find ammo parts on your map, which are usually directly next to teleporters, you can get a huge amount of ammo very quickly by just doing a round every time you log in.
Also co-op if you feel like it, will give you lots of ammo as well.
I won't spent a single cent on the game after the price for buying it and the microtransactions will mean nothing to my playthrough.
We're also currently getting 50 SV coins a day, so if I really did want to, I could use those on some useless stuff, but eh.

Virgil is the best new MGS character and I hope his AI shows up in another game. Both personalities were funny when correcting one another.

The menu system is this game's biggest problem in my opinion. Loving the hell out of the gameplay (on chapter 10), but there are just way too many menus. The craft, repair, and dismantle menus should be one menu. There should not be a separate menu for opening brief cases, and I don't know why you open it up with Virgil instead of the warehouse box thing. The case menu is also a different set of buttons from every other menu, so you have to hold Y to exit instead of just pressing B like every other menu. You should be able to directly equip items from the crafting menu without first crafting an item and without going into a separate equip menu since crafting already has the ability to equip an item after it's crafted.

The cure menu is also weird because you can equip medical items like any other item, but you can only use them from the completely foreign looking cure menu which you for some reason push d-pad right to get to. But then the oxygen menu is accessed with the Y button instead of maybe another d-pad button.

Also how do you change that little rectangle graphic that shows your name in the matchmaking screen? I remember seeing it somewhere, but I can't find it anymore because I get tired of looking through this M.C. Escher-esque lattice of menus.

Honestly, wow. I was so initially biased against this game, I really wanted to hate it for the controversy that surrounded it. Metal Gear is my absolute favorite franchise in gaming, so I just had to try this out regardless. Boy, I'm happy I did. It's not the most mind blowing game out there, but it's a lot of fun and a lot of people are going to be missing out on this little gem. It has flaws, many really, but I'm enjoying it quite a bit.

There's a few quibbles I have, one being the lack of clean drinking water being available for a large portion of the game (I'm maybe 5 hours in and still have no sign of getting a better campfire).

I also don't like how small the segments on the map are that fill out as you explore. I wish they filled out in bigger "chunks" I guess. It's obnoxious having this spotty map that doesn't really show me all too much other than the very specific path I managed to travel in. Does anyone know if I get a better way to fill the map out other than having to expressly travel over the small areas I managed to bypass?

Even if they were totally half baked and were more tedious then engaging, the survival mechanics in MGS3 were a lot more interesting to play around with. Again, they weren't good systems, but they obviously had a lot of passion and care put into them.

I'm several hours into Survive, and I still don't understand why the game has me managing several different meters at once. It's not immersive or tense, it just feels video gamey as all hell.

From 'quake area to big OH.
Only had time to get to chapter 5,but enjoying still.

Yes it's tedious and slow, but I am still having fun exploring while trying to survive. A death is frustrating, having to rinse and repeat. But when you have a successful excursion is rewarding.

Still looking for good and water in the beginning is a little bleak. Hoping to find a pot soon to clean water. And a stable area to hunt or start a farm will be helpful.

Clean drinking water shouldn't be an issue. Most people don't get that the story portion is basically one big tutorial, where it introduces new mechanics each chapter and there's the endgame after the credits just like in MHW.
Yes, you can explore and chill in this game, but doing the chapters will make your life easier.
Right now you are not far away from receiving the imroved campfire, which will solve all your water problems.

Not sure if this exclusively post-game enemy but it only popped up after I finished the story.
Has anyone else encountered or beaten Bigmouth? Took one look, saw its level and turned right around.

I am a little concerned about starting my second base defense in the story.

How close am I to the next map? And does all that much change after I go there? I am over prepared if anything, but am enjoying the more casual pace while exploring more of the world. Also, is the base defense achievement for not losing anything in your base during an attack missable?

Very Close. That being said the next area is 3 missions then you can jump back and forth between maps. You don't lose anything when you go to the next map and your stuff still accumulates (water...food...etc)

Like the Zone of the Ender reference.

Beat the game a couple of hours ago. Really enjoyed it.

Didn't really follow the game and picked it up on a whim because of the budget price and ended up thoroughly enjoying it.

Going to check out what the post game has in store. I'm also curious what they have in mind for future updates.

Is there a point when you can carry more than 30 arrows?
Yes.
You can craft another quiver. I have a separate quiver that holds normal arrows (50, I think) and can put a separate arrow type in your regular quiver. You're able to switch them by holding up on the D-pad, then hitting a button.

Looks like there's a level 30 Survivor restriction. Are you a level 30 Survivor?

Also, for anyone annoyed at the Broadcast Facility always showing that there's something new even if you visit it, you can clear that by editing a playlist, going into the song selection, and then highlighting all of the new songs to clear their "new" status.

Just expanded my base to level 2 and my next main mission is to activate the wormhole. Before I do this, are there any tips as to what sort of defences I should put down, etc? I don't have many survivors yet - about 5 I think, not sure if that makes a difference? Any tips welcome - I'm not bothered about spoilers.

Also, a complete aside, but I tried capturing an animal to store at the base - ran over to it, kicked it and used the wormhole to send it back - but nothing is captured. Did I do something wrong?
