Detective Pikachu is mainline in my heart.

In-canon sequel to Pokémon Yellow, you heard it here first.

Gamefreak really messed up at E3 last year. They should have not said anything. You can tell the guy they had to make the announcement was nervous and looked like he had a gun to his head to say something. There is no logical sense why a mainline game will come out this year. People need to get their expectations in check and game journalists need to practice restraint with what they report especially after the Pokemon stars debacle.
That's just how Ishihara looks all the time lol. There are reasons why people think the game can come out this year, besides the obvious fact they said it would be out in 2018 or later themselves.

It looked like they just dragged him out of bed and swear to make Pokemon Switch. He was probably drawing the starters in his notepad right then and there.

They definitely bumbled the USUM announcement. After a Pokken trailer that felt longer than all the LotR movies combined, they showed ten seconds of USUM footage and then flashed the logo and date on the screen, then proceeded to talk even MORE about Pokken.

Fun fact: Kimishima was standing behind the camera.

No, fans would be angry because Switch isn't getting a mainline PKMN but 3DS does. It was the right decision.

No, they NEEDED to announce it, some people were going nuts over the switch not not being a full handheld and then not getting a full Pokémon game. If anything that announcement helped then sell more switches (or at least faster).
How can that be a mistake?

I'm sure he's super excited to transition to switch as many other developers are! But yeah the trailer gave off the impression to me that they literally just started

I mean, we did point out a few things that point towards Gen 8 being this year (the anime running out of game material, the legendary distribution ending on November, Game Freak aiming for a 2018 release with "2018 or Later", etc.). The final nail in the coffin for our 2018 hopes would be if they announce a filler arc for the anime.

I feel like I've repeatedly pointed out why this is nonsense in this thread alone.

Long story short- it's nonsense.

Where is the rumor of a new Lugia form stemming from? Is this game expected to be a Johto remake?

Coro Coro was teasing a secret about Lugia to be revealed in March in the sort of language they usually use for new forms or evolutions.

There's a precedent for this kind of thing- Mega Mewtwo Y was used to promote X and Y before we even knew what Mega Evolution was.

So what's the dealio folks? Are we expecting anything new from TPC today? Do they normally say or do anything special on Pokemon Day besides the stuff that's already been announced?

No clue. Just because it's in the new movie, doesn't mean it's getting a new form. For all we know, the other secret is an unrevealed Gen 8 Pokémon.
CoroCoro explicitly said they'll reveal a scoop about Lugia next month. We already know everything about the Pokémon itself and we already know it's in the movie, so it has to be something new

In terms of the anime there is still a lot of material they can do. There are still two grand trials left, the Ultra Beast arc, Pokemon League, Hau, Team Skull, Rainbow Rocket, Captures and Evolutions, cameos from past Protagonists (they said its a chance they do more episodes like the Brock and Misty ones),Zeraora could get an arc like Meloetta instead of being in it he movie, etc.. Just because we got the Aether Foundation out the way doesn't mean there is nothing left.

Okay why are people so seemingly sure of a new Lugia form?

Corocoro has a special scoop of Lugia next month and it is starring the upcoming movie, a similar situation with Mewtwo who was starring the movie. Corocoro went on to reveal a new Mewtwo form.

Also have this, a chance of a new Pokemon in the merchandise slot.

The thing is that the akala arc and the Aether arc were done very quickly, so even if we have more things it doesn't mean they will last long enough

There's no reason to expect anything except some celebratory stuff like the Snapchat filters we got.

So basically, set your hype thrusters to max output and join the carnival of stupid.

From Serebii.net:
The next image of CoroCoro has come out and has revealed that, as many suspected based on the initial trailer, Lugia is to take part in the new movie insome manner. It also states that next month, the issue of CoroCoro will reveal an important scoop on Lugia and to pay extra attention to Lugia this year. The full details are as of yet unknown but we'll post as it comes
It's pretty consistent with ways they have revealed new forms in the past

But unless they slow the pacing down to a crawl, that content won't get the anime to last long beyond 2018 without lots of filler. Plus the odds are looking as though we'll get Zeraora in Movie 21. I'm not saying that there's nothing left, but rather that there isn't a whole lot left at the current rate the story is going at.

That said, you did bring up a good idea of revisiting Kanto as being the potential filler arc.

Another theory is perhaps these games aren't gen 8, HD remakes/new games based in Kanto with new Pokemon forms such as Lugia and a few others.

They could literally do everything you mention here (and they won't- I don't expect Hau, Rainbow Rocket, or Zeraora any time soon), and it still wouldn't fill much more than this year at the speed they've been going, particularly given that they're already teasing Nanu/Necrozma/Ultra Beasts.

They wrung most of the content out of the region in slightly over a year. There's no reason why they pounded through it that quickly if they're just going to jam the brakes on now.

What about a new type? They used Eevee to introduce fairy type, and in gold we got umbreon.

Sound type has been speculated for years and in gen 6 they gave some mechanics yo sound attacks (It would be weird with Noivern changing one of it's types)

I always wanted a Light type, but since we have Fairy now there would be a bit too much overlap. Sound could be interesting but it would be weird to have Physical Sound attacks

What if instead of new pokémon types, they include a new system in which you can have moves with two types (either they have two types as base, or by combining two moves from two pokémon during 2v2). You could create new move types based on those combinations, while the typings of the pokémon stay the same.

The new Eeveelution will be a Lugia form. Gonna turn into a sleek little bird dog like a combination of Lugia and Trico.

Did you deduce this because the note book is on the first pages and it was the start of the project?

If we use the anime as a calendar and assume that the new game comes out at the end of October/beginning of November and that there is a new episode every week without a break from the last announced episode they would only have 33 episodes to finish the series and have less than 100 episodes total. I don't see that happening. That would make the series a Best Wishes train wreak.
