Also can somebody clue me in about the alternate ending please? I dont think I got that.
At the point in the story when you have to descend from the top of Mother Base and run to the Lord of Dust, if you instead just turn around and go through the wormhole, you'll get an alternate ending where your character wakes up in the middle of Afghanistan in MGS5 with the Peace Walker Mother Base soldier attire and a photo, and starts wandering. Your character becomes one of the lost MB soldiers from MGS5.

I wonder if that's what the rescue co-op mode will be for, together with the lvl 3 base upgrade they will unlock at some point.
I browse through the MGS subreddit and some people have full base camps. Apparently by doing all the side missions and sleeping, eventually they get survivor side missions but I've literally not had one.

edit: Obviously as I start to complain about this on a forum, I finally get a distress signal. Although I did shuffle some people about and put them in different crews.

Thank you for the fast reply. I'm in chapter 10, so maybe I just missed it. Will check the areas you mentioned later when I'm home.
No worries, I may be mistaken but I definitely remember picking it up in the last 2 play sessions I had and I spent them around those areas exploring, possibly close to that
large dust free area to the south east

I remember to the pixel where I picked up the "Mantis" name plate if that's any consolation :D

This game made me rage quit last night. I was on the second map and collected a shit load of materials and y'all know how far the teleporter is from the building in the corner. So I'm finally heading back on a walker gear I found just running past everything and due to damage over time I'm forced to jump out so that happens and I just decide to run across the bridge to finish my journey and the damn walker gear blows up and takes out the bridge I was on. I looked at my screen in disbelief and turned it off.

This game becomes an unbearable grind if you are only in it for the single player. I've put 38 hours into it and think I've hit my limit on what I'm willing to put up with. The pace of progression drops off a cliff, barely feels worth continuing at this point. It's a shame, I really like the concepts behind the game and enjoyed the slow progression in the beginning because there was just enough new things to keep you going. I'd like to see someone come along and do it better, more interesting enemies and locations, better combat and progression along with more varied challenges that aren't the same boring side missions over and over.

I don't think the game is really meant to be played much more than that.

Maybe Konami thinks so, but it's really just there until it gets old then move on.

Farming for Kuban energy in SP at a certain point surely isn't worth it and becomes a chore. I was in chapter 20 when I finally decided to try out Co-Op. Every session gave me like 100000+ kuban energy and a huge stack of rare ressources.

Finished the game yesterday, such a great time with this game, its got its hooks in deep for me, is there alot of content after beating the story?

That's how I feel. I don't bother collecting Kuban if I see them.

I played a round of co-op last night and I got what I needed in terms of Kuban and Mats. Definitely going to play more of that.

I was looking at the skills for subclasses and there's one where you get Kuban Energy right away after a backstab. Going to get that one next cause it's boring backstabbing then holding X to get it.

So I'm guessing these flame wanderers are immortal? Nothing I've tried causes them to take damage.

I've been running into an issue in multiplayer. I'll play a match on normal and we'd earn an S rank which would net me a purple drop. However, all my subsequent S wins that same day/night would not result in a purple, even if I get the top score. What gives? Do I need to log out then back in or something to get the benefit?

It honestly feels like the game tries to throttle you after a certain number of play hours in a day: side quest crates start to have materials instead of proper weapon/gear cases and your multiplayer drops decrease in value.

You unlock subclasses, 2 event fights (unique enemies level 40/50), and you're meant to do the multiplayer and base defenses.

Konami put out a bullshit patch. I think purples were either removed from normal or have significantly nerfed drop rates. If you want consistent purples you need to play hard and get S Ranks.

So I'm guessing these flame wanderers are immortal? Nothing I've tried causes them to take damage.

Ice Damage or throw them off cliffs. I've only seen them once and the level difference wasn't worth the ammo to me.

If you're going to be doing that grab the silent running, chain backstab, and stealth camo abilities. Don't forget to equip them with Square.

I cannot find animals to hunt, anyone in the same boat?

I ran into a similar issue at that point. Blitz as far as you can in the game until you have ranches at your base. Also use the digger at your base when possible.

Sleeping 6-12 hours should help reset the spawns btw.

Just found out that if you use the grab+throw move on a wanderer, you can throw them into spiked barricades and they get pierced by the spikes and stuck on them.Hilarious.

Alright guys, I got fed up with all of the misinformation and people playing this like an action game. I have recorded the first 2.5 hours of the game, which is Chapter 1-6, while playing it like a Metal Gear game. I sneak around, backstab, avoid, and distract, and I have no issues with food, water, and oxygen and have no need to grind. In my opinion, this is the most optimal way to play, the most interesting, and probably the way the developers intended. This is an open world game with many tools at your disposal, so it can be played like many others are by putting up fences or standing up on rocks and using their spears and spending minutes harvesting corpses. I would argue, however, that this is not an efficient nor fun way to play the game. Now, I don't expect anyone to watch all 2.5 hours, so I have included timestamps to notable segments in the video description. I would have started a new thread on this titled "Metal Gear Survive Played Like a Metal Gear Game" to highlight this Metal Gear play-style, but I don't have thread creation privileges. If someone else would like to do that, that would be great!

Funnily enough I adore the game and I don't play it as stealth at all. I'm action all the way :P

Great idea Philtastic, you may not expect anyone to watch the whole thing but if the newborn spends ages feeding this evening I'll give it a good go :D

I tend to use a impromptu mix of stealth and action depending on whimsy or whether I've mis-timed R2 and hell has broken loose.

So, I finished the story portion and continued playing for 3 hours. Some you guys were downplaying the end game quite a bit, huh?
Imagine a game like HZD saved 50% of the skill tree for post credits. This will end up being a Goty contender in my book for sure.

And just when I thought (before end game) "wait, I can basically run past all of the zombies without even sprinting and they still won't catch me" they've turned the jungle into a hell hole in the end game. Getting swarmed by those little fucks nearly gave me a heart attack.

I guess my prediction was right then, this is MHW world all over again where the story only serves as an introduction/ preparation for the grind in the end game. This is not your typical open world game where the story missions are the main focus driving the game further all the way.

Right now, I feel really really sad about the whole situation. Just imagine, this could have been Konami's Destiny only done better. It would only take a team of 5-10 people to regulary add stuff from MGSV over the course of time -like getting Venom Snake's rocket arm at level 150.... you may get the idea.

People datamining have apparently found some interesting stuff already in the game that's currently locked.
Like basecamp Lvl 3 with purple workbenches and some rumors about map expansion

Too many are blinded my the Konami - Kojima politics to even give this game a rational analysis. I still think this game would be a success had it not used MGS assets.

It sure does expose which reviewers just ride the biased wave and which actually review a game for what it is.

Yeah the map extension is a no brainer. Those road blocks and the uncover the map trophy wouldn't make sense otherwise. I've also seen one of those crystal-cardboards that give you music and colors behind one of the road blocks, but was unable to hit it.

And like I've said before the game's size is below 20gigs right now but it showed something below 40 gigs when I started the pre-load.

This is an important post, and I'm doing the same thing or let's say: now in end game the game forces me to adapt quickly. No more saving ammunition when those ninjas swarm you with a bunch of the regular zombies in an area with those living traps all over the ground.

I've been playing stealth games for so many years now and this is the first game that really nails stealth vs. combat. There are so many games that make me restart the section when I mess up stealth or have no real consequense for being spotted.

Yup, the jungle is nasty! About to start carrying a flashlight, lol but I love it. Makes things tense as fuck.

I need to start looking behind the roadblocks for hidden cardboards. Maybe you can get them with a sniper? Or I can just be patient and wait for the map expansion, lol.

I think I'm at 86% completion for the first map. Thought about posting a picture when I get home if it would help anyone.

Update for you Philtastic,

1.5 Hours in, your calming tones magically made the baby not only quaff her bottle in record time but soothed her to sleep without any excess whining, you have my thanks :)

As I said, I tend to play less stealthily than you were here, but I don't half waste a lot of time, I rarely run anywhere and for some stupid reason only run at animals to knock them out when going to fulton them, never to prep them for a skewering. I also hardly ever use prone and roll to avoid and setup attacks, I also very rarely use lures of any sort. I am acting like a do in all survival games too, hording, playing defensively and exploring the map rather than progressing. :D

Overall as someone thats been enjoying the game so far I enjoyed watching as much as I have purely for some tips, I think it does a good job of showing the game isn't just starve/die fence simulator :)

I've been playing stealth games for so many years now and this is the first game that really nails stealth vs. combat. There are so many games that make me restart the section when I mess up stealth or have no real consequense for being spotted.

Yeah, I'd agree with this too, I don't feel like I've missed out when stealth goes wrong and I have to adapt.

This game needs the map expanded so bad. Post game its kinda boring running around the same two small areas. Everything else is a bonus.

They are seperate items, so you can dismantle the first and replace it with the upgraded version, same for the other benches. Unless I've done something very, very wrong :)

I think there are weapons/gear that have a requirement which needs the first bench you start off with. Makes no sense if you have an "advanced" one already made at your base, lol.

There's not a single moment in this game where I can feel relaxed. Even at base camp hunger and thirst still goes down. Also why the fuck does oxygen not replenish when you're in a safe area from the dust when it can only be replenished at base camp? Why can't I use one of my million fucking buckets to make clean water when I'm still forced to drink dirty ass water and risking infection? There's so many baffling decisions in this game.

Uh, did they change how often you can re-harvest from teleporter spawn points?

I haven't played since yesterday at this time and only one of the spots in Africa respawned materials.

It used to be I could check in the morning AND evening and get everything again. What?

I think it's based on in-game time not real life time. If you sleep in a tent for several days everything respawns.

Is there an easy way to replenish ammo? Or am I making honestly one bullet at a time when I craft it? This game is so fucking hesitant to let you use any sort of gun it's ridiculous. I'm so bored of stabbing these wanderers.

Press Square / X and the recipe will change.
There are 3 recipes for bullets. The first one makes a couple of bullets, the second makes around 8 I think and the last one makes even more but i don't remember how many.

Just opened the game up for a quick run and there's a 3.3Gig update downloading.

No patch notes that I see after booting up though.

I see no update on Steam. :(
Hmm, it was XBL for me.

The discord channel Bot just dragged some news about an XBL update which fixed some issue with pre order bonuses, so it could be that I suppose, seems rather large though.

Sorry for getting any hopes up :D

[edit]

Just had a very productive mini session playing a little more stealthily and fultoning Wanderers, used very little food/water, got a ton of Kuban and found some Zone of Enders cassetes and a green machete/Green combat pants alongside a watchtower blueprint.

So how do I actually get clean water or something for thirst near the start of the game? From what I understand you don't unlock the item necessary to craft it until Chapter 7!

Pretty much, though you will find bottles & canteens of clean water as you explore. I didn't rush to chapter 7 and I don't recall it affecting me at all, I only ate/drank at camp so I didnt get caught out while exploring. I didn't need to, but you could probably just eat/drink at base and save scum incase RNG isnt your friend.
