You should have enough meds in your item storage to fix any sicknessses you get from drinking dirty water until you get the means to boil clean water.

yeah thats a good point grandwizorb, I even had a few rations which I never touched, though I don't know if they were some login bonus.

[edit]

Some questions (which I'll spam the discord channel with too) mostly relating to the base staff. Currently Chapter 12 and everyone is just assigned to general base for now, I've not touched exploration.
  • Motivation: Does one have to rotate staff off jobs to rebuild motivation? Does it make a difference?
  • Sickness: There's at least 2 staff constantly bleeding or suffering food based gut agony, I'm sure I've made sure the appropriate cures are available is there a proper method to use to fix these workshy swine?

Yeah I have some meds, I figured they were from the pre-order bonus rather than something everyone starts with. Have had to use one of the ones for dirty water infection but think I still have 4 left.

Sickness to me seems like a randomn generated thing with higher chances of sickness under certain conditions.
Was short on beds - 1/3 of base population got sick.
Everything looking fine - still one or two sickos.

...but there's this one guy who gave me the wrong eye cause he's a diver and I assigned him to harvesting...I'm 100% sure he's just faking it and the Nurse is giving him false sick notes.
I will reassign him to exploration only equipped with a short stick and a baseball hat.

Finished the campaign yesterday. These twists are too much lol. I love this game.

Is there a spoiler thread for this game? I would love to talk some spoilers but here are some spoiler free impressions for now.

Overall, the final mission was great, but I was hoping for some more epicness especially after what they have you do to prepare for the final mission. That said, these guys still have a lot of skill when it comes to cutscene direction and setting up epic encounters. I really liked the story moments. They arent up to par with Naughty Dog or CD Projekt but its still a cut above most games and they really milk some of the more impressive shots in the game.

The campaign was around 25 hours but because it was so light in the story department, it felt a little short. Post game stuff seems to be a completely different monster but i really liked the gameplay loop here. I love the focus on melee. I love the upgrade system. the loot is great and some of the legendary items have great perks. I love how you get more and more powerful as you get to the end of the game. Coop is where the game truly shines.

I have only fought one end game boss so far so I dont want to rate the game just yet... the end game seems kinda extensive. But if i had to rate the game after 32 hours of SP and mp, I would give it a 7.5 with post game possibly pushing it to an 8 or even 8.5. I am usually very harsh on my ratings. I think MGS5 is maybe an 8.0 or 8.5 (Great) at best and Uncharted 4 is a 7 (Good). So I am surprised to see this budget title impress me this much. I really hope they are given another chance to improve upon this game and release MG Survive 2 in a couple of years. Sadly thanks to the vicious and unfair internet response, i think that will never happen.

Is it just me, or does it sound like
at some point we might get a missiom to finally go back to the present? Maybe in a DLC, if not a free update.

Yeah, I'm sure there's a lot of faking it going on, disgusting considering the life or death situation everyone is in. I'm sure I see Reeve constantly having a sneaky cigarette round the back of the exploration centre.

This is what I assumed as well. Virgil's words post-game seem to imply it so I figured there was either going to be a convoluted way to unlock the "final" mission for the game like some previous entries in the series, or potential DLC.

So the story...I've had looow expectations, yes the writing is bad, nothing to discuss here, but there's a nice Sci-Fi story in this, if I'm getting it right (really wasn't paying too much attention): Question with heavy spoilers:
Is this a time paradox- thang? Goodluck creates nanomachines that result ultimately in Lord of Dust and wormholes in the present, but him receiving the Idroid form Reeve in the past is basically the key to the nanomachine tech in TPP-present. Like building a time machine to go to the past but with parts you have received from this past. Am I missing something? And the Easter Egg is not an alternate ending but hinting at multiple universes that are still somehow connected and it doesn't matter whether the Captain goes through the wh or not, the (relevant) outcome will still be the same? So a fourth wall breaking thing, where the player experiences two of many optional causes that still lead to one outcome? And now that the Lord of Dust is gone, why is the Dust (and zombies) still there. The game tries to stay in it's cannon post credits, so I don't get it.

a story from today...

I really took Philtastic 's video to heart regarding a more "satisfying" way to play, not that I was relying on just stabbing things through fences or anything but I was very defensive, using stealth to pass enemies avoiding conflict until seen then using environment, spear and fences to kill mobs and slowly harvest mats.

I decided to explore with more alacrity, actively stealth kill mobs to fulton bodies and use lures to shepherd mobs into areas to take them out one at a time or avoid completely.

I wandered into the dust after a "distress signal" mission, plotting my route beforehand to go via an unexplored region at the end of a road which may have a container. After quickly dispatching the wanderers around the container and pocketing the bonus Kuban I headed toward the rescue victim. Lying on a container the victim was surrounded by 20 or so wanderers, I lobbed a crystal beyond the container and headed toward it while the mobs' attention was elsewhere. I had to stop to stealth kill and fulton a straggler by which point the large group lost interest in the first lure and started roaming back toward me. With reactions I did not think I had I prepared another crystal and lobbed it once again beyond the container, this time overarm, unfortunately the crystal shattered on the floating corpse above me mid fulton and it exploded. Every enemy immediately turned to the noise and saw me, I very nearly soiled myself as they bounded closer. I managed to use a combination of lures/prone and sprinting to leave enough distance to grab the victim and head back toward the teleport.

It was fun, tense and rewarding since I had plenty of air left over and the stealth kills really add up the Kuban.

That article.... my god. "You spend the entire game only stabbing zombies through a fence" is the new "You have to pay to unlock Luke/Vader in Battlefront 2", huh? So much misinformation, it's ridiculous.

I... there is no hope for this world. It's misinformation like this that just shocks me: how can so many people get basic things about this game so wrong? Is it the open world nature of the game which doesn't force you to play in certain ways (normally a strength but here a weakness)? Not enough hands-on tutorials that explicitly explain that you don't want to waste so much time fighting everything?

Edit: To partly address this question, I rewatched my footage of the tutorial area just to see if there was anything there about favouring stealth. Guys, this is literally said by Goodluck's voice actor...

Easiest way to tell someone hasn't played the game past activating the first transporter.
Funny thing is that the person who wrote that article admits having only played one or two hours of the game before dismissing it completely.

It's really sad that this game isn't even given a fair chance by lots of people. A lot of that is on Konami of course, both for being a shady af company but also because of the weird marketing that made everyone expect this was a multiplayer focused game. But from professionals you'd expect some less bias.

Anyway on a more positive note: just tried mp for the first time and playing soccer using grenades is my new favorite feature after falcon punching goats in the face. Good times.

I am pretty used to a load of what I play having tons of negative stigmas and false parroting around them, but the sheer amount of people ragging on MG Survive is really getting to me. I would really love to see this formula improve and evolve (many of you would) but I fear the bad word of mouth this generally has from a huge amount of people who mostly have no idea what the game even is will probably scare not just Konami but most devs and publishers away from attempting to make this type of game in the future.

Gaming culture sucks.

Get to the post game and there's a stealth ability/class. Backstabs can auto harvest Kuban and you can chain them together.

The auto harvesting thing is only good for co oP on detonators, since you dont have to manually pick up all the items, taking you like 30 seconds. It's not that good in single player because you can't Fulton the enemies and get the extra Kuban.

No but it's faster though, I personally don't like fultoning feels like a waste of time.

It also has active camo and makes your footsteps less noisy.

Omg, what?! Damnit, why'd I have to restart my game just to prove people wrong?! Why?!?!?! :p

In other news, here's the 2nd part of my Let's Play:
https://youtu.be/Eta39340Ta8

In terms of single-player and early game, I'm starting to develop what I feel is a superior way of defending bases. It turns out that you can still backstab alert enemies as long as you are behind them, so, instead of hiding behind fences and stabbing with your spear, I think that it's better to view fences and barricades as a way to slow down the enemy advance (instead of personal protection) while you sneak up behind them and either backstab small groups while saving your weapon durability OR attack huge swaths of the enemy who are grouped up on your fences/barricades with wide-arc weapons to make quick work of them. The problem with spears is that their hitboxes are so thin, thus you only hit enemies in a line. This isn't terribly efficient when the enemy is spread out across your fence/barricade. Not sure whether this strategy will hold once I reach more special enemies but it's a lot more fun than waiting behind your fences for the enemy to get to you. I demonstrate some of this in the above video during the base defence.

Honestly it's a refreshing take on the game, I'm a fan of self imposed challenge runs and enjoying your LP so far. :)

Spear running attack has a massive AoE, grenades are great for clearing swaths of enemies off barricades and bombers are great IEDs (two grabs will cause a detonation).

When you unlock decoys + C4 you can have a blast. Wanderers will swarm the decoy until they pop it, once you hear the pop blow the C4. This works even better when you get shock decoys.

Iron Towers are 4x more durable than fences, you can still shoot through them or do a drop attack off the top to kill hordes. I like to build a funnel with two fences and an iron tower.

Stomps are also effective against every enemy in the game and there is purple armour to boost stomp damage. Combine stomps with leg sweeps or barbed wire barricades for greater effect. Stomping the weak spots do more damage.

Unfortunately a ton of really good items (for the base and your equipment) are locked behind the base defence digger. I recommend doing each level once because it appears that certain drops are static on your first run on each.

This game is one of the better stealth games recently because the survival aspect makes it so you can't just brute force stuff and there is actual consequence. You want to use the least amount of resources possible and be as speedily as you can, not just for S-ranks but because the game itself rewards you for doing so. You can't just silenced tranq everything safely from a distance and the save system means you might have venjured far from the safety of the base and taking risks not only will lose your life but your time. No quicksaving every 20 steps here.

It would be great if someone could mod in MGSV soldier enemies as Wanderer replacements, it'd be like the ultimate stealth sandbox.

99% completed on the 1st map.

That 1% is driving me crazy!
How did you get past those road blocks? Or are those areas not counting? Lol, I have 50 hours playtime and still only 65 % on the first map. Today I've played 3 hours of Co-Op, somehow playing the beta unlocked recipes way faster. Still haven't found floor traps, but I also haven't seen other players with sniper rifles yet.

Talking fences...there's a very nice utilization I found out about them. Whilst climbing over a fence you can perform that melee from above move by quickly pressing L2 then R2. No more excuses for standing in front of the fence poking at zombies with a spear. Yeah, this game is either shallow or some of the reviewers clearly revealed lack of skill and creativity...or it's to overwhelmingly deep with all of it's little systems. Even I look like an idiot now because it took me 50 hours to realize that the damaged gear you find has perks and the gear you craft doesn't. Facepalm.

Boy, that rapid fire bow perk is mega fun. Feel like Legolas defending Helm's Deep in base defense.

Did you know that if you grab wanderers and throw them against a spiked barricade, they will get pierced on it and get stuck?

Yup, by accident. I did that counter ability move where you perform CQC followed by a throw right when an enemy attacks and the zombie got pierced by a nearby barricade.
In Co-Op those lure bottles become super handy because in co-op there are those default trap installments which are rarely on the horde's path. Throwing
the bottles into those areas will change the zombies' path straight into death.

Every piece of equipment, including armour, weapons, possibly ammunition, and gadgets contribute to your weight. This is one reason that there are loadouts: you can have a barebones loadout where you minimize your weight to loot more and another one with your heaviest armour for base defence, etc.

Bottles, food and medicine also. An empty bottle has a weight of 0.5 if I'm not mistaken. So if you carry 100 bottles youre already at 50.

Lol, road blocks are still there so those areas don't count.

I've been walking everywhereeeeeee. I have these single, empty squares around the map and no idea how to get to them. Some are high up and I can't get to, yet, the surrounding squares are filled in. Don't know if I'm missing something but it's frustrating lol.

Tonight, I've been trying for 2 hours. I was able to get a few more empty squares to fill in but damn man.

There was a container somewhat near the base. It is up on a building but I never knew how to get it...Until I remembered I could build ramps and sandbags! Crafted a ramp and was able to get it. It had a Torch you can build for your base to light up dark areas.

Also, one of the road blocks has one of those hidden boxes behind it. You can build a sandbag, stand on it, and shoot it.

I've currently unlocked 53 songs.

Been reading some tips you guys have been mentioning. Really awesome stuff. I haven't really experimented with weapons or setups yet. Might do more coop for mats then craft a bunch of things to play around with.

I forget I still have much of the 2nd map to explore, as well. I also want to mess around with the base management. I have 21 people right now. The distress side missions are random.

Looking forward to seeing how they support the game.

This is me right now. Trying to fill the map but some places are impossible to grab and I don't know how to fill them up. Been making ramps and towers trying to get as close and try to Skyrim my way up these areas.

Whoa, just found a hidden box by accident using the binoculars.

It unlocked some MGS4 music. 5 of them.

This was in the area of Transporter 07.

Guess I'm going to walk everywhere (again), using these binoculars lol. This was such extreme luck.

There's at least one hidden below a very small wooden bridge, in a non dusty area, can't remember which one. And one in those small "buildings" (the ones with part wall, part fence, part wood.) Not sure how to call it.

Is there any way to stop the camera zooming in so much when you crouch? It makes seeing your surroundings in ruins incredibly difficult and has screwed me over more than once now.

And is there a manual save option anywhere? Reloading an auto save back at base camp when near the end of an expedition is insanely annoying.

Good spot. I found a hidden box on the mountainside by climbing the watchtower right next to transporter 9, it had Zone of the Enders music. (Though I've still yet to craft the transmitter).

KobuukS.jpg

Apologies for the poor quality screenshot, I grabbed one quick as I still had to unlock the transporter and was running out of air. It's not hard to miss though.

I've never seen such a camera option, I kinda doubt it. You can only save at the base as far as I'm aware, it's almost certainly by design as it makes extended sorties much more tense, as I discovered yesterday when exploring ruins 2 with very little air and a broken air tank :)

I've found the heavy attack (unlocked level perk) with square to be quite effective. It does a very quick 3-hit combo. Each hit is powerful enough to kill a wanderer and there is just enough time between each hit to change your aim a bit.

When they crowd your fense, stand right next to it aiming for the leftmost or rightmost wanderer. You should be able to kill at least three by changing your aim mid-combo. Three kills in one second.

Someone wrote they unlocked faster drawtime for their bow. I NEED that shit. Love the bow. Where did you find it?

It's an ability for the hunter class (unlocked after two missions in the end game). It let's you fire 3 arrows in quick succession by pressing square. Awesome stuff.
I also have an ability where you perfom a back roll whilst aiming with a ranged weapon and a move on cooldown where you fire multiple arrows into the air for an aoe attack, controls kinda work like the mortar. This game has really some meat to it which makes the whole situation about it's reception even worse, because I haven't heard anyone outside this board talk about this. Also, in the endgame you basically start with true character builds. People right now genuinely think that this is some broken + shallow shovelware title and won't believe that they might miss out on an insider tip.

I'm close to end game and i still haven't found any casette...

Ok so spoiler question

is the 11 days deadline real or just flavor text?

Don't know I did the last quest way earlier because 11 days in the game are yery long and the real Survive starts post credits. I can see them automatically starting the quest, why not?

Look around for little crystal-cardboard structures which look like a trophy (similar to the soccer world cup trophy). They are often in places where you can only hit them with a ranged attack. Those contain colors for armor and cassettes.

How do I get milk? Also, revival pills? Lol

Continue doing story chapters. You will unlock the ability to build cages in your base. Then you need to capture sheep alive by knocking them out and using the portable wormhole generator.

Revival pills require the upgraded medical station to be unlocked and materials you get from hunting some rare animals.

Thanks! I've only just gotten the wormhole digger back at base.

Also wasted my 5 revivals I got on day one.
