Sounds similar to Nt Mini, and as someone who lost a decent chunk of progress on Nt Mini because of this I cannot emphasize enough about familiarizing yourself with the nuances around when the system actually does and does not save before considering doing any serious game progress sessions. Seriously, spend a good chunk of time experimenting with it, you have been warned! Not to mention more testing to confirm the corruption stuff has been fixed.

Basically, this update looks pretty solid overall, but I wouldn't sit down and do a 30 hour session in random RPG just yet. Take your time and put it through the paces.

This ^^^^

It's not the most intuitive thing, but after a bit of practice it becomes automatic.

My unit is still in transit, but my I opened up my 8bitdo controllers today, figuring I would update the firmware while I wait. According to the firmware update tool, they have firmware 4.10, which is newer than the latest 4.02 listed on the website. Does anyone know what is different between the two versions?

Can't wait for my Super NT to arrive!

I was away this past week and just returned home. After showering and putting the kids to bed, the first thing I did was flash the JB firmware and try the Super Mario RPG and Yoshi's Island carts that had been sitting unopened on my counter for a week. Pretty happy, the new JB firmware seems to resolve saves, although I did mess it up by exiting with the "B" button and then not seeing the save dialog. I wasn't sure what I had done wrong but the post above is correct, exit the menu using the select button after accepting the "save prompt" and saves work well. Both new carts worked although Yoshi's Island needed cleaning before it would boot. I've never played either game so I'm looking forward to them.

Gotcha. Save in game, then save in menu.

Have we heard if this will be automated at any point?

The Nt Mini had an automated option where it would save when you enter the menu without prompting, but that doesn't really make it any more convenient because you still have to remember to enter the menu. The nice thing about getting the prompt is you can be sure it's actually performing the save to sd card.

^^ yeah, I don't think there is a way to fully automate it. Saving the sram is basically like when it is dumped from a cart. Not something you want done when it could potentially be updating so it has to rely on you to know when it is safe.

So then unlike an emulator, this will likely always require an extra step from us to "save a save".
I know the PowerPak is like this too but, how about the SD2SNES?

So they got rid of the old advertised behavior? I thought the save dialog was just an extra, explicit step that was added for peace of mind. It no longer saves just by entering the menu?

Now when you exit to the file browser you'll get a popup dialog that asks whether you want to save (assuming the rom supports saves). It's kind of weird that it asks (b/c why wouldn't you want it?) but at least it acts as a confirmation that the is going to happen.

I'd rather have it be semi-automated, by going to the menu - then it'll "auto" save.
Cuz seriously, why wouldn't you want to save? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Oh, save-state crazy gamers. ;)

I think I'll start with 720p and scanlines. Any recommendations based on ofw 4.4?

There were some hints and tips in the beginning but they must have been based on stock firmware.

I'm only getting a prompt the first time I enter the menu after booting a game. Do we really have to restart the console every time after we save to get the prompt back? Or am I doing something wrong?

Still no update email. Ordered my unit the 6th of February. It's weird since some other people from Europe ordered the 13th and already got theirs...

Try clicking on "See status" at the bottom of your original order confirmation email to see if there's a DHL tracking number. It's possible it already shipped even if you didn't get a shipping email.

It's of course just guessing from my side, but maybe that could be the reason. Black ones were still on sale when I ordered on Valentine's Day. The rest was out of stock at least for a couple of days, I think.

My unit is in Ontario. Still on track for tomorrow but kind of hoping it goes out today.

Black unit ordered Feb 15.

Always bet on black.

I like 1462x1200 (5x, 4:3 for 16:9), no scanlines, vertical interpolation disabled, horizontal interpolation enabled. It does crop off a bit of the top and bottom, but it's stuff that's outside of the "title-safe" area, comparable to CRT overscan, so you're generally not losing anything of value, and the integer scale means you can turn off vertical interpolation. Plus, in case you do decide to turn on scanlines at some point, they will look decent at that resolution.

Nice! Thanks for the response this looks good but it also gives me a good starting point.

Nice to see a new jailbreak firmware release, but I think I'll stick with the official firmware until the jailbreak firmware adds something that I need access to. My SD2SNES still allows me to play more games than I can play from an SD card using the jailbreak firmware. I wonder if the jailbreak firmware will get any new minor features or if the main difference will be the jailbreak firmware getting additional cores.

Yeah, I'm going to hold off on installing any JB until kevtris is basically done with the regular updates. I'm in no hurry to get the JB so I can handle this.

I was happy to see it cleared customs during the night. Hoping it can make it here today instead of tomorrow. Latest update:

Yesterday I promised the guys at Retro Game Bros in Scarborough I'd bring it to the shop on Saturday morning so they can check it out.

I posted this earlier about the behavior:

Just for anyone who is going to be using rom saves exclusively:

When opening the file menu to save (select+down), you will find the save dialogue. Now that you have the file browser open do not ever press B to back out of the menu. If you do this the save dialogue will not reappear upon reopening the menu

Instead always use select or start to exit the menu (to go back to game, or enter the root menu, respectively.) In doing so the save dialogue will appear every time you enter the menu again (select+down)

I have learned this through much trial and error. If you back out of the menu with B it appears impossible (to me) to save your current game. I have yet to figure out a way to do it

Help ERA.

I just went ahead and bought Turn & Burn: No-Fly Zone CIB (missing the white warnings insert, but comes with manual/cart/housing/box) for $15.99 w/ free shipping. A-Am I starting to go down that rabbit hole? I haven't even gotten my Super NT yet!

Don't worry about it... If it makes you happy and you enjoy the physical collection of the games, why not? I got up to just shy of 200 carts, many CIB, many more cart-only, and I hit the point that I didn't care any more cuz I had the games I had let go earlier on, and bought ones that I rented and liked.
I'd say, get what you want to play, not just cuz they're "good" and you "should" have them. ;)

So, like the proper numpty I am I don't have the correct power adapter for the USB cable... but from what Analogue say in various places, you need a 5V plug for it - I have a few of these around the house from over the years of upgrading phones, would this be okay to use, its 5V 1A?

https://www.digitalsave.co.uk/apple...MItJuOoa3V2QIVrLztCh1Ogw3JEAQYAyABEgIV6vD_BwE

So you're UK-based I take it... (Sumo Digital. :D) Yeah, you can just use an socket-adapter as the voltage rating is 100~240, if you have one.
But, according to Analogue's site, https://support.analogue.co/hc/en-us/article_attachments/360000837292/Super_Nt_User_Guide_v1.1.pdf , it says you need a 5V 2a plug.

With the JB save to SD card feature fixed, does this mean battery backed save carts also can be written to the SD card? So can I play Mario Kart and it will save to the SD - even if the battery is dead?

Actually this looks more like the correct spec - https://thepihut.com/products/offic...=589b7ed415c9bd6e1e77a4ff6f5daae8&fo_s=gplauk

Yes, UK - does the Pi one linked above fit the bill? It's a little over seems :/

I have a few usb plugs 5v but preferred to use the one analogue provided in the box, so I plugged it to a travel adapter like this one. works perfect. UK bods and 3 pin users :)

AFAIK, that .1 over shouldn't mean anything in the long run (I have a PCE Duo that I ran in the states without a converter for 15+ years, and now it's back in Japan and still works fine).
Ideally, a simple converter like what ktroopa below is using is the easiest solution.

If it is the right one, it will work as it says 5V 2.5a. I don't know what your set-up is but, I have mine plugged into a spare USB plug on the PC. Easier than a wall socket.

I don't have a PC anywhere near the TV, only a PlayStation 4 :(

Well, that's going to have to be the go-to if nothing else works - last thing I want to do is fry the damn thing :(

Worst comes to the worst I have an old adapter tucked away with my Dreamcast somewhere... sigh XD
