oops well it seems it went back to NTSC mode. ok problem solved i reset it to PAL mode and now it works correctly. Do you need to set PAL mode everytime the Super NT boots or should it remember the setting? At the moment its defaulting to NTSC - but all my games are PAL carts..
When you change a setting in the menu I think you have to save the settings. There is an option somewhere to do so. If you don't it will revert to previous settings when you turn it off.

Oh yeah, *that*. Well, I don't make the rules, and I'm even in Canada and expected this thing to take ages to get here. It's payback for waiting on other stuff over the years. On the other hand, after shipping and taxes converted to CAD, it cost $285. I remember paying $115 after tax for Secret of Mana, Final Fantasy VI, etc, on release.

The black Super Nt is also black on the bottom (the rubber pad) and you can't read the text on it. Didn't expect that. It's also slipperier than the grey bottom of my SF unit. After all of this power adapter/voltage/amperage talk, I decided to use a beastly Aukey USB charger brick that's been tested to put out 3A and a 20 AWG USB cable that's 3ft. System's definitely not starving for power now!

Analogue doesn't have a Papa Priority system, do they? lol https://www.thedailymeal.com/papa-priority-get-your-pizza-front-line

As some already noticed there is a problem with the scanlines on the Super Nt. Especially on 1080p60 and if you turn of V Interplation they are placed between pixels.

I don't understand how this could have happend after Kevtris was working with My Life in Gaming for so many months - how did they find the problems with some obscure games, but didn't notice that basics like the scanlines and limited range/full range are messed up?

I found a temporary solution until Kevtrix will fix the problem and rework the scanlines: You can use the scaler settings (HQ2x, HQ3x, HQ4x) to move the scanlines. This will change the graphics slightly, but at least the scanlines (especially in 1080p60 mode) look much better that way.

Settings working for me:

1080p60, 1462x1200, HQ3x, Disable H Interpolation OFF, Disable V Interpolation ON, Normal Scanlines, Scanline Depth 128-192
720p60, 877x720, No Scaler, Disable H Interpolation OFF, Disable V Interpolation ON, Normal Scanlines, Scanline Depth 128-192

Another problem is that the Super Nt identifies itself as Limited Range device, but the output is Full Range or somewhere in between. So I would recommend to try setting your monitor/TV to Full Range and Gamma 2.4. Results may vary depending on your monitor/TV.

Just tried your HQ3x settings, have to say the scanlines look like they actually work properly, also it's very clear and sharp, there is a bit of colour blending going on in backgrounds, but hell it really clears up the blockiness, as that's not how Snes games should look either :)
Since the RGB colour passthrough update, and realising 1080p scanlines work perfectly at 1200 height (no scaler) with 1365 width, I've completely settled on h and v interpolation engaged, normal 105 scanline depth, and gamma RGB lock at 110, I'm 100% happy now, it looks bloody great.

So do you think these 1080p settings would be good for someone who doesn't want scanlines? I haven't tried them out yet.

When you change a setting in the menu I think you have to save the settings. There is an option somewhere to do so. If you don't it will revert to previous settings when you turn it off.

Yes. Always remember to save after changing any settings as there's zero autosaving.

Damn it, just ordered the black one.

You won't regret it. With the SF and Classic models, there's too much compromise. SFC and SNES aren't the same shade of grey, neither are the carts nor controllers, and it's unlikely the rest of your shelf is adorned with grey devices either. With black and using ROMs off the SD card, the thing is a stealth bomber of love.

Not the gamma I wouldn't say, as it would look washed out without scanlines, but what I love about using them is that it helps hide the pixelation, whilst keeping it sharp.

Well after getting my unit yesterday, all excited to try it out when I got home, and then I was not able to find my original SNES controllers. Found my old SNES but the controllers weren't with it. What a disappointment. I tried looking for them again tonight and found them tucked away in an old suitcase!!! Woohoo! So I spent this evening playing my old games. Every one worked without needing a clean. Then tried my GB games in my super GB, and had a blast with those as well. I noticed the sound coming out of the Super GB was much louder than the SNES games.

I ran it off the USB from my TV with no issues whatsoever, but I'm going to get a plug converter tomorrow so I can use the included USB plug. Oh and get an SD card so I can update to the latest firmware. Its fantastic.

If I remember right under the audio setting you should be able to adjust the volume on the oncart audio and thus get the SB audio closer to the SNES carts.

To my complete surprise my snes carts all have retained their saves via battery backup. Super Mario World, Super Mario Kart, Super Mario Allstars, Yoshis Island, Donkey Kong Country, lol the list goes on. Amazing..

There is a cool buzz again on inserting plastic game carts into a plastic hole, like injecting gaming life into this little machine. Am loving this console :D

My friend's Super Mario RPG was fine and the used SFC Yosh's Island had saves from the previous owners. No issues so far.

Honestly that's why I ordered one. I have a bunch of carts of amazing games I could never get rid of, but never play because the snes just looks worse than playing on the snes classic or whatever. This allows me to play with my carts, while looking amazing. Hopefully once the jb firmware gets the bugs out it'll be no problem playing roms to try out games but I'll mostly play carts. The emulation on other devices is good enough for the most part to me so I didn't get the NT to play roms I could already play.

For me it's about the nostalgia. Shades of grey doesn't bother me, it's just the purple/grey scheme that's key. It's not really supposed to be a snes anyway, so a little more modernity in the colouring is fine :)

Shouldn't be surprised, those damn Legend of Zelda NES batteries lasted 25-30 years! There's something magical about Nintendo batteries...

Just checking in to see if there's been any talk of special chip support on the jailbreak?

Kevtris seems like he's super busy lately. If he had special chip support available it would be there. Could it be added at some point in the distant future when he has the time and inclination to add it? Maybe, but even then he says he can't do Super FX since there isn't enough memory bandwidth. So basically buy a copy of any Super FX games that you really feel the need to play.

Wasn't that the statement where someone was asking him if you could plug in a super fx cart and have it use that for any sfx game? Or was there another one I missed?

He was asked questions about it a ridiculous number of times. I don't remember exactly where he said it, but he stated that there's not enough resources, specifically memory bandwidth, left for Super FX support. Also given that he hasn't admitted that he provides the jailbreak I doubt he's going to get too far into it. There's currently no use for special chip support except for use with the jailbreak.

Kevtris said that both SFX and SA-1 would be impossible on the SNT hardware (IIRC this was during a livestream so no easy way for me to find it; but this was being discussed a bit on the discord channel if you search "SA-1")

Anyone else noticed that although the system runs at 60hz, some games are "internally" running at a lower framerate?

Kevtris ain't got time to worry about special enhancement chips via the JB firmware. He'll be working on the Mega NT soon. He's been kicking out firmwares and fixing bugs as fast as he can because he's probably got a deadline to meet for when Analogue wants him to start working on his Genesis core. He's probably gonna kick out one last major firmware for the Super NT and then we won't hear much from him for awhile. Compatibility is pretty legit at this point and there are literally maybe 5 games that still have some issues.

R-Type lll, Kirby Super Star, Mega Man X games, Yoshi's Island, Demon's Crest and F-Zero to name a few. Seriously, too many to list.

I better start saving...

Also, here's Kevtris reply to my question about a "hypothetical" Mega NT and what would be the most difficult part about it.

"Dunno, the 68K is probably the worst part. Other than that, I don't think it's as complex as the SNES was but I am sure it has lots of quirks and weird things too. I have done FM before and video so I don't think it will be too terrible or out of that out of the ordinary. The worse part is people wouldn't like if it didn't run sega CD or the 32x, which it most likely wouldn't do. It'd be stock genesis only. That's not to say it wouldn't have expansion for the cd, but it definitely would never support the 32X because it'd need to output analog RGB, then re-capture analog RGB from the 32x for its video overlay. So I suspect the bitching would be epic if I didn't support those things. I could be wrong and it has happened before :-)"

For reference, Kevtris said he started Super NT work around March of 2017 via a livestream with My Life in Gaming. And that is why you didn't see any Analogue NT Mini firmware updates since then.

Anyone that bitches about the 40 32X games not being supported should be ignored because none of them are worth even thinking about.

Virtua Racing and Virtua Fighter are actually very good ports, but I agree its not worth the hassle just for a handful of 32x games that don't straight up suck. I would be happy just having an expansion slot for Sega CD.

On the other hand it would be amazing to have a Sega Genesis + 32X + CD combo that is much smaller. Hoping he'll change his mind but won't really be disappointed if it's just Genesis only. And yeah CD has more interesting games on it anyway so if that is supported at least then we're good to go.

I really, really hope they're working on a Mega SG.

While I understand that a lot of people would have an issue with a lack of 32X and/or CD support, I honestly don't know if I'd consider many of the 32X and CD games to be worth the effort. And I say that as someone who absolutely loves the Genesis; it's one of my all-time favorite consoles, probably second only to the Dreamcast. Frankly, I think most fans of the Genesis would just be pleased to have a clone system that made games look AND SOUND as though they're being played on an actual [model 1] Genesis. Genesis clones tend to be absolutely horrible as far as audio goes.

32x support I could do without, but SegaCD is a must - especially if I can just dump my disks and load the ISOs off an SD card.

I mean, who am I kidding, I'd buy one either way. But I'd love to have a mini Sega CD.

Yeah, wouldn't give a fuck about 32x, but lack of CD would be a bit disappointing. Nothing huge, but love me some Sonic CD and Lunar.

I would rather have a new cheaper NT mini first if they aren't going to release an 8bit core for the Super NT, though.

Kevtris most likely won't implement the Sega CD via FPGA. Just the expansion pins. Sega CD passes audio via the expansion slot, so Kevtris will be able to route it via HDMI kinda like how SD2SNES and MSU-1 games work on the Super NT.
