Can someone please tell me how the hell to get a certain Art related Moon?

The freaking Top Hat Moon. I know where it is but it's not there! I have ground pounded the entire hill on that damn bridge. I have lined up the stupid hat tower with the giant moon. All the guides online have no screenshots of the exact location and just tell you to pound the ground near the railing. Fuck this shit. Someone give me a screenshot of the exact location. I GIVE UP!

Try the railing behind you maybe? I forget the exact location, but you're super close!

Im not near my Switch to take a screenshot but is there one more hump on that bridge closer to your ship?

This is the hump closest to the ship. The "first" hump as most guides say. And I tried the railing. I'll try for another few minutes but I am so frustrated. I literally only have the "master cup" Moon left in this level and this one Moon that doesn't even count towards this level anyway so I won't even have to come back again if I find it. (And don't bother with the racing.)

Ugh getting frustrated I can't find the last 5 purple coins I need in Metro Kingdom. This is my 3rd time going there purely looking for the coins but I can't find them. I'm only missing purple coins in one other area and that area I haven't looked as hard.

I could easily do with an entire based around that 2D/3D idea. Such a clever concept.

A bit of odd timing since we didn't post anything directly boss or ending related for Odyssey at all, but please DM or tweet me if you'd like to discuss this further to keep the thread on topic

I don't wish to discuss it further, enjoy your content otherwise! Good to see you here.

Okay, I think I found the hardest moon in the game *for me*. I didn't have a lot of trouble with any of the
Dark Side
moons, but it just took me forever to get
iceburn curcuit s rank moon

I'm almost 500 moons and and that was the only time I've gotten legitimately frustrated. Not even the jump rope was this bad. That mini game just doesn't jibe with me, for some reason.

made it to new donk city and my feeling of the game is that it feels less like nintendo made another sm64 or sms and more like they made their own take on a banjo-kazooie game. sm64 and sms set the player down certain paths that could be deviated from for special extras. b-k let the player explore an open world until they hit the right number of jigsaw pieces or they felt ready to leave and move on to something else. and a lot of the jigsaw pieces were accomplished by just exploring or tackling minigames. b-k also had a transformation angle to keep the gameplay fresh. i don't think nintendo specifically copied it as much as this is the more logical take on where to go with a collectathon platformer.

Okay. So I have solved my Art Moon problem...

So it would appear that you need to "activate" the Moon by looking at the art first. I discovered this when I went to Bowser's Kingdom to find the Moon related to the Art in Sand Kingdom and it wasn't there. So I travelled to the Sand Kingdom and looked at the Art with the A button and then went back to Bowser's Kingdom and sure enough, there it was.

So I tried the same thing with the Hat one. I went to Peach's Castle and looked at the artwork then went back to the bridge and BOOM, found it almost immediately.

But here's the thing, while I'm pretty sure I hadn't looked at the Bowser art before, I DID look at the Hat art before. I even took a screenshot of it. But for some reason the activation gets reset. I assume it resets when you quit, which is really dumb design if you ask me. So I guess keep it in mind if you're looking for Art Moons, visit the Art first and press A to look at it then go find it right away before quitting the game.

https://imgur.com/gallery/Za6lEHere's the exact spot. You may need to do something specific to activate it maybe? I looked at the big tower from there using first person mode. And I'm sure you presssed A to read the original picture hint that showed you to go there? Did you save a screenshot?

Edit: well, there you go then, haha

It feels like that until you finish the story. Then the shackles come off and it becomes proper Mario again.

The best way to play it is to do the bare minimum in each kingdom to re-activate the Odyssey, power through to the final boss and then enjoy the freedom of the post-game.

Yes, I had looked at the Art and I had taken a screenshot, (Which is how I knew I had looked at it) but I guess if you quit the game and come back later the activation resets. Which is really stupid. Once it's activated, the Moon should now exist. Doesn't make sense. What if I activate a bunch at once? Does it only allow one to be active at once? It shouldn't even matter. Once you look at the Art, it should be permanently activated.

At 620 moons I'm starting to get fatigued of this game. How's everyone else doing? It's still, and was, a fun and amazing game but I don't think I can play it anymore right now. Is 100% worth it? Some of these moons are insane to find and places like Shiveria don't even give you the proper location when you buy hints from Toad. It's starting to feel more like a chore than like fun.

^ don't feel compelled to do something just to tick a box, this isn't Assassins Creed (Zing). Do it until it is no longer fun. You've already had many happy hours with the game, don't burn out, just quit while you're ahead.

That would explain why I couldn't get the Koopa one in the desert to work.

Probably a stupid question, so you can also jump into paintings to go to another world as well as powering your ship?

I'm at a little over 800 moons and still enjoying myself . If I were feeling fatigued, I'd take a break. Don't dampen your experience by feeling the need to 100% it right now.

I had the same feeling throughout the whole game.

I never played Yooka-Laylee, but I figure from its reputation that Odyssey is a more proper BK successor than that game was.

Ok, I'm confused now. I unlocked a painting in the sand kingdom to leads to
new donk city
should I go through it now?

Done some research and apparently they take you to certain levels you can't reach without the paintings.

Argh! Can someone help me with the Koopa Freerunning in Wooded Kingdom?

I can't seem to pull off that crazy long jump the Gold Koopa does near the end.

I've got like half of a probably-too-long review written up for this game and dunno if I feel like finishing it. I'm feeling kind of spent after 100%ing this.

Mostly it just puts me in the mood to play other Mario games now.

Argh! Can someone help me with the Koopa Freerunning in Wooded Kingdom?

I can't seem to pull off that crazy long jump the Gold Koopa does near the end.

- long jump
- throw the cap
- initiate a ground pound
- immediately press AND HOLD the cap/dive button
- bounce off the cap
- dive again

It bothers me somehow that the game spoilered me a Kingdom through a warp painting...

The (postgame i guess?) Kingdom is

I really didn't know this Kingdom was going to be in the Game. Still surprised but it would be way better if i unlocked it through beating the Game...

It's foreshadowing, not spoiling.

I love the races, probably my favorite moons in the game. Just wish there were more/harder ones, or courses built specifically for them á la Mirror's Edge time trials. I know they aren't going for quite the same thing, but still.

You really feel that way? Isn't even more fun to discover it yourself, rather than have the game hand it to you at the end? That's how I feel about it.

I can't relate to this at all. It doesn't matter when the moment of a reveal happens and I certainly wasn't expecting it to happen when it did.
I was expecting something post game. I wa not expecting something that big midway through the game.

Ok, I just finished Darker Side. I'm sitting at 879 moons, with only one thing left to do.

Time for some more jump-rope! : /

Okay....

Where do I get track 38 for the music sound track in this game?

There's an 8-Bit section in Bowser's kingdom that has that music
(moons 31 and 32)
.

Just finished the main story with 380+ moons and 500+ purp coins. The game was top shelf as expected. I found the ending super charming even though I don't typically care about the story in these type of games.

Is it worth my time to grind all the power moons? No spoilers, just wondering if the payoff is worth it or if I should move on to my neverending backlog. I liked hunting around for the moons but I just saw a post saying how many there actually are

iirc it's easier on the moped.

Ok, I just did it in about 20-30 tries. The bike helps with the jumping height, but I lost a few times north of 80 because the damn thing shifts a bit laterally with each jump (I'm not sure if this affects the actual hit detection, but at the very least, it was distracting). I ended up just jumping with the rhythm of the women's voice with my eyes closed. Wound up fucking up at 102 when I heard the moon chime.

Also, it's a bit of a pain getting yourself set up properly. Would have been less frustrating if they could wait with the swinging until you're standing between them.

Yesterday I explored the desert as much as I could and decided to look at a guide for those final few moons I was missing, since I'd looked everywhere. A few of those were the most well hidden or devious moons I've encountered til now.

- The one in a hidden room in quicksand. There was a visual clue, but it was almost impossible to spot
- The one in the cave or pyramid where you have to enter the hole the moving pillars come out of, dang
- The one cappy-able cactus
- Letting Cappy spin on the poison sign, never thought about doing that
- The glowing cactus you have to bash against... but make sure he lands in the sand and not over the cliff

If you found these by yourself, congrats

Would've never found these by myself. Currently at 580 moons and relaxing in the seaside kingdom. This is one of my favorites to just explore and mess around in.

I'm doing cleanup on all the levels, but I've started to skip the races. The early ones were easy but the ones that take 1m+ like the lake kingdom drive me crazy.

Finally this game clicked with me. Took somewhere around 200 moons. But the freedom of movement it allows you is superb.

Also, the VVVVVVV inspired 2D levels are everything.

Those gravity jumps were already in the first Galaxy as well

I'm still surprised and happy about the reveal of that kingdom but it would be way cooler if you just start there without a warning after the credits or something like that. That would have blown my mind.

Pretty sure that i have read that article. Seems like i remembered it wrong...

There are a few moons like that in the game. The give-away is the object in question wearing a small hat. When in doubt, just groundpound and toss Cappy at anything that looks remotely noteworthy.

Also, before going for the guide, try talking to the parrot first, he gives you the names of a few missing moons free of charge, and that can often be enough to tip you off.

As for the second one, all the smaller sub-areas have two moons - one primary and one hidden.

All these posts struggling with the jumprope challenge, I found it not too bad.

Volleyball though, that's the real challenge. I struggle so much more with that.

See, I'm the exact opposite. I did 2-player mode, parked Mario as far away as possible and soloed with Cappy.

I'm just never going to bother with jump-rope and volley extra moons. Possible frustration for just a few drops in the moon bucket... I'll revisit every level for all the moons I find enjoyable, then try the final challenges.

Just 100%'d the game.

Unfortunately...
The Dark Side/Darker Side were really easy and super anticlimactic, especially considering how good Mario bonus levels have been in the last 10 or so years. Really disappointed. I was gonna consider this my favorite Mario title, but not after that. Definitely still belongs to Galaxy 2 and 3D World

I want your Mario skills, lol. I got as far as the
whirlwind gliding part
and lost my patience there after numerous attempts and loud curses lol. The
fire pit hops
I found particularly assholeish as you lose all momentum and fail if you touch the edges as you hop.

Surprisingly I got through the
Dark Side boss rush
in just a few tries.
