Only have driven it about 10 miles. It handles great so far. Acceleration was enough to make my wife angry when I did not warn her before I gunned it. Sat in the driveway playing with some settings and tuned the stereo. The regen braking is a little bit aggressive for my taste so I set that to low. When you get one, definitely check it over. Mine had some scuffs on the front which needed to be buffed out from the ride on the truck (I guess). They took care of it in about 10 minutes. I love the minimalist interior including the wood, but would have opted for a less shiny material for the center console. It is a fingerprint magnet.

Those are my thoughts from 10 miles. My Checkbook is a lot lighter, but my heart is full of joy.

Having never driven an electric vehicle prior to my Model 3 regen was pretty hardcore. I got used to it pretty quick though, I like it as it limits my brake use which should extend brake pad life. Did yours have the latest firmware installed?

Think I should put it back to normal and get used to it? Firmware is 2018.10.5

10.5 is newly released very nice.

Regarding the regen there's only positive from it so if you can get used to it seems like you should turn it back on. Enjoy your car how you want though you've paid a lot of money for it.

Yeah, I turned it back on since my home charger isn't installed yet and I need all the help I can get. Set it to sport mode, so I'll see how that goes on the commute today.

Really? I can't imagine it being much stronger. It's more aggressive than the loaner S I'm driving.

Yup, the Bolt and Leaf have stronger braking regen than the 3 regardless of regen mode on any of the cars.

The Bolt and Leaf are both front-drive, so it's to be expected. The dual-motor 3 will likely be much stronger under regen.

I hope so. I'm waiting on the AWD 3 myself, and I'm used to the strong stopping power of the Bolt. Wouldn't want to lose that. One pedal driving is wonderful!
Note that that graph on the left, there is no regen in Drive mode on the Bolt -- you HAVE to pull the paddle. So that should read "Drive + Paddle". I'm also surprised there's a difference between Low and Low + Paddle -- in over a year and 27k miles of driving I never noticed a difference between the two.

That's interesting. What is the source of that chart? I should read up more on this kinda stuff.
I wonder if the regen braking is directly proportional to the amount of energy produced meaning the stronger the braking the more energy is produced, or perhaps the tesla is more efficient with it's regen and doesn't need to brake as hard.

So Tesla's Ontario Incentive is gone? That $14,000 incentive was what made me preorder this. Now, Tesla is nowhere to be found in the updated March list of vehicles getting incentive. I'm staring at other EV/Hybrids. :(

Submitted my online request for cancellation yesterday. Just too many factors against buying into the Model 3 for me.

Ended up leasing a 2018 Wrangler Sahara. I'm in love. Maybe in 2-3 years I'll revisit the Tesla / EV market again.

I'm actually a TSLA shareholder but I gotta say that BMW is a great Tesla competitor and the only other company (aside from Porsche I guess) that actually gives a shit. They are betting big on electric- they announced the other day plans to offer 25 different plug-in models (this includes PHEV's) by 2025.

The current i3 is a great car, you should test drive one. NOT an econobox like the internet thinks (or like the Bolt). It's a carbon fiber, rear wheel drive BMW and it's very fun to drive. They have a new sport model called i3s for 2018. The leases are cheap as hell. And the best part is you can get one right now instead of waiting on an indefinite list for 3 years. Battery model gets 120 miles of range, REX (gas generator) model gets 120 + 80 miles gas so 200. YMMV of course depending on AC, weather, uphill, and driving style, but those numbers are from my experience.

They will update the i3 either late this year or next year with a bigger battery so expect about 150 miles of range and then add 80 for the REX unit so 230 which is tesla tier.

Finally re: the i3- it is manufactured in a brand new Germany facility that is IIRC 100% sustainably powered. Elon would approve. The car itself is also made primarily of sustainably/responsibly sourced materials.

They also currently offer plugin hybrid versions of the 3, 5, and X5. The 5 qualifies for a carpool sticker in CA. So does the i3, obviously. And CARB hands out multi-thousand dollar rebate checks to you just for leasing one. Free money. No brainer. SoCal Edison also has a 450 dollar cash reward if you're with them.

The next electric BMW's will be the new mini cooper and X3 (called iX3), and then the i4 which will come in 2020 which is basically their Model 3 equivalent- compact, mainstream sedan.

I don't think we will ever see electric M cars, that fanbase is addicted to loud noises and huffing gasoline so they'll start insane amounts of online REEEEEE drama if something like an M3 is even offered as a hybrid.
i3 looks like shit though. My biggest problem with manufacturers building their electric cars is their cars look total shit. I sure as hell dont want to be seen driving one and look like a total goofball. Tesla started the cool look of electric cars and its the biggest push for me to get a Tesla, besides being fully electric, fun to drive and a bit of a luxury car as well. You dont look like you're driving a clown car in a circus.

Motor Trend circa this thread

It looks like the labels on the Bolt chart are backwards. There seems to be a tuning/software component to regen as well since apparently Tesla continues to tweak regen strength on the S.

I agree. Tradational car makers hearts just are not in making EVs so they make them look like crap.

I3 doesn't look that bad, it's the suicide doors that I've got a problem with.

Car is overpriced for what you get but that's BMW for you.

The Bolt, M3 and the Leaf are the best deals right now. The Kona might join that list.

The Model S & X are gone, thanks to the new $75,000 MSRP limit. The Model 3 could still be eligible. I believe I've read that Tesla needs to apply to have it added to the list and since they are still just on the brink of starting to ship them here that could still happen.

Of course, that could all be a moot point depending on what happens with the election in June. That has put me in a really tough situation. There's no way I can afford to get the first production cars, even with the incentive, so I pretty much have to wait for standard range version. But by that time the $14k incentive could very well be gone, which would make even the standard range model a stretch.

Turns out my dream affordable electric car won't be all that affordable after all. :( With my current car at nearly 10 years old, it's soon going to get to the point where I'll need to replace it or be spending a ton on repairs. Really not sure what I'm going to do, quite honestly.

Ugh, that's terrible. I'm honestly staring at Honda plug-in hybrid, Clarity. You get $13,000 incentive and it has a shitty electric range (78km!) but it seems like a good compromise for commuting to work, and with the incentive the price of vehicle comes down to $28,000 which is amazing for a car that has features of a suped up Accord that'll go for $33,000ish (including Honda Sensing, and more).

Why not a Bolt in that case?

Why not a Bolt in that case?

I am hypotized by the efficiency of Japanese cars. My Hyundai just died (just paid $2k to fix the transmission only to find knocking sounds in the engine, ugh) and I'm in desperate need to get a new car that'll last for 7+ yesrs, and all my Honda driving friends with new and old models are looking at me like I should buy a Honda as well lol.

(Also, Bolt starts at $43K! Sure, Clarity is at $40K but damn that car is fully loaded for that price! I really love the range of Bolt though... Now you're making me consider it lol).

This makes the Bolt look slow, but I own one, and in Sport mode it's anything but. It's not too far off from 0-60 from my 2007 GTI, and feels faster because the torque is instantaneous. It's fast enough to make freeway merges and passing on a two-lane road a breeze. Plus, we're talking around a 1-2 second difference 0-60 between Model 3 and Bolt. That'll make ANY car look slow. The Bolt is rated 0-60 in 6.3 seconds.

Go to a Chevy dealership and test drive one in Low Sport mode, then come back & tell me Bolt is a slow car ;-)

Hey Maynerd (or anyone else with a Model 3 in a state that requires front plates) did they put the front plate on your car, or did you do it (or not) yourself? Does the bracket require drilling the bumper?

Wow, Tesla safety features already doing work. Car illegally tried to cross a 50 mph road in front of me. Tesla slammed on the brakes before I could even react. Good Tesla.

I haven't got my plates yet but Tesla will put it on for you. I believe the bracket connects via some sort of adhesive. I did buy this though, although I'm having some second thoughts.

Side note, they replaced my rear window and I am picking up my Model 3 after a week of sitting at Tesla! One weird side note when I called them to check up on my car they told me that the part came in today, and I asked what did that mean as the had the rear window over a week ago and the guy told me it was some bolt for the MCU since they replaced it. It was working fine! I have no idea why they replaced it! LOL. Anyways I'm going to talk to someone tomorrow about it when I pick it up as the guy on the phone seemed less knowledgeable than I would like.

Cool, thanks. Just wanted to make sure I don't need to make a fuss about not drilling the bumper.

The drama with my car continues, they are apparently now waiting for a part for the MCU so I'm unlikely to get the car back today. :( The guy did tell me about the MCU issue though he said the tech saw some vertical lines in the screen and didn't like it so they decided to replace the unit. That's cool of them, I remember seeing some minor screen lines but I thought it was something going on with the navigation map and not an actual problem with the screen.

That sucks.

I finally got a chance to use autopilot on the freeway in LA traffic. What a game changer. 20 minutes to go 2 miles barely bothers you when you don't have to worry about stop and go every 10 seconds.

Autopilot in stop and go traffic is very awesome. I got my car back today, upon inspection of the rear window there is a defect which causes a warped visual effect. They are going to order another window for me. I get to drive my car while I wait for the replacement which is nice I guess. Grumble.

I decided against ordering the model 3 for now. While I was super stoked to get the email, I REALLY need All-Wheel drive (being that I live in Canada, and Winter can be insane sometimes). So it's nice that I'm ready to order as soon as they announce they are doing All-Wheel drive. I'm assuming it would be within the next few months since they are quoting Mid-2018 for it.

Uh oh, someone in the other Tesla thread is going to say decisions like this are bad for Tesla and show people don't want the model 3.
