The screenshot you've posted clearly shows changes.

Different colour palette, different enemy designs.

You can't just say that more detail is better. That's ridiculous.

Which of these two is better? Is a more expressive character?

It's not the more detailed one.

The clean solid blocks of colour in the original are a big part of it's aesthetic appeal.

I still think this remake looks good, but I wish it was a bit more true to the style of the original game.

If you want a game that looks like it was made in 1998, Spyro 1 - 3 are available as PS1 Classics on PSN still for PS3 and PS Vita. Expecting a game made in 2018 to have big solid blocks of colour like that is plain silly.

Yes, there's a larger colour palette on display (I wouldn't say it's different, the grass isn't suddenly purple) and yes, there's more detail, but I think it's pretty clear that the design of the enemies is largely the same.

It's the same hulking sack guy, holding the sack and himself in exactly the same way, raising his eyebrow in exactly the same way.

Also, you're comparing a live action character with an animated character, it's quite a bit different.

Damn that looks amazing. The Spyro trilogy were some of my favorite games as a kid so I can't wait for this.

lmao so they tease an announcement for this game for like 2 months and then it just leaks before they announce it, lmfao

I think some of the alterations were a bridge too far, but I've always felt that the biggest problem with the games was being designed in the time before dual analog sticks, so I'm probably going to grab this at least when it's discounted. Happy it's coming to XB... these were really the only PS1 games I have a fond memory of.

Looks pretty great. I didn't really play Spyro when it was out so I don't have the nostalgic care for this game but with 3d platformers a thing of the past for the most part I'm excited for it. My girlfriend isn't much of a gamer but she played Spyro a lot when she was younger and she is so pumped for this.

Until the game is announced, you can't port beg. And timed exclusives are dumb.

PS4, XBO, PC, Switch, fucking Apple TV, give it everyone.

Would have preferred if the color palette was a little closer to the original games but otherwise this looks fantastic.

Good lord, September is going to be a crowded month for releases. This, Spiderman, Dragon Quest, and maybe/probably Smash.

I'm actually kind of hoping that the Switch version doesn't release until next summer, a la Crash, because then it can fill a midyear schedule hole instead of further taxing my wallet during what's bound to be a brutal fall. (But, whatever, I'm still going to buy it if it drops in September.)

Yes I've played the original games relatively recently.

I can't seem to understand your position, you seem to be arguing both that they have and that they haven't changed the art style.

I didn't say these screenshots look bad, just that they have made quite a few changes, and I'd have preferred they'd made fewer changes. Not sure what part of this you are disagreeing with.

Cogsworth in the Beauty and The Beast remake is not a live actor, it is also animated. It's a movie: There isn't really magic that can actually turn a person into a clock.

Do we think they are going to wait for E3 to formally announce it or Activision will go "oh fuck it" and announce in the next few days?

This is pretty exciting news. I only ever played the original Spyro (via rental in my youth) and liked it a lot at the time. How do the sequels compare? This reminds me that I really need to pick up Crash at some point this Summer as well.

You may not have to wait a year.

Eyes emoji.

Also, in regards to the sound direction of the game, I wonder how things will be handled...
Will Tom Kenny come back as the voice of Spyro? What about the music? Will it be remade or just ported over? Personally, because of the timeless sound of the original soundtrack, I really don't think anything more than direct reuse of the original songs will be necessary. (Like... s-seriously, you ain't going to make it sound any better than it already did)

My position is, this is pretty much how I expected it to look, a 2018 version of of the original. I'm struggling to see how the designs are different aside from colour palette.

Animated Cogsworth has much more freedom in design and expression because it doesn't have to look realistic. They can give him a face and a mouth because realism isn't a concern. It's a cartoon.

Remake Cogsworth can't do that, because they have to make it look believable. They have to make it look like it's real. I'm pretty sure the spec to the concept artists wasn't "Make it look like Who Framed Roger Rabbit".

Unlike with this Spyro Remake, the fact the BATB Remake was in a different medium completely changed the rules.

Kinda expected it to be exclusive the PS4 first...then again its Activision and there arent many reason to limit the sales of a game that could be released on multiple systems now that the format is proven.

Shit aint even been formally announced. No one is port begging. Sit down.

Yeah - the portbegging police is doing too much again lol.
In the Firewatch thread someone cried portbegging because a user asked where Hollow Knight Switch was xD

It is also rumored for Switch, the rumor is the game will be announced later today so we when it does we will know.

My opinion? With the rumors and the fact that Crash is coming to Switch, Spyro will too.

I'm a bit disappointed in the drastic color pallet changes. Hopefully the developer listens to feedback just as Vicarious Visions did for the Crash trilogy. Other than that, the Spyro games were noticeably in more need of larger changes to the graphics and settings than the Crash games were, so I'm not upset with some of the other changes to buildings and such.

My favorite game back in the days. As a kid it was playing Spyro all the time and MGS... Thinking about it what a mix.

Dude, September.

What the fuck.

Greatest September in existence?

This feels like ps4 2017 all over again.

2018 and 2019 Ps4 are going to be nuts, greatest console ever by the time lifecycle ends, not even a discussion anymore, the library is absolutely insane from exclusives to multis this generation delivers.

Oh man I gotta see some Spyro 2 screens, that's the one I actually remember.

I'm really looking forward to seeing how they interpreted some of those levels.
