Different colour palette, different enemy designs.
You can't just say that more detail is better. That's ridiculous.
Which of these two is better? Is a more expressive character?
It's not the more detailed one.
The clean solid blocks of colour in the original are a big part of it's aesthetic appeal.
I still think this remake looks good, but I wish it was a bit more true to the style of the original game.
If you want a game that looks like it was made in 1998, Spyro 1 - 3 are available as PS1 Classics on PSN still for PS3 and PS Vita. Expecting a game made in 2018 to have big solid blocks of colour like that is plain silly.
Yes, there's a larger colour palette on display (I wouldn't say it's different, the grass isn't suddenly purple) and yes, there's more detail, but I think it's pretty clear that the design of the enemies is largely the same.
It's the same hulking sack guy, holding the sack and himself in exactly the same way, raising his eyebrow in exactly the same way.
Also, you're comparing a live action character with an animated character, it's quite a bit different.
