Bad news about discord is that no admins/mods online and i think the place is closed down still. We'll get you there eventually though.
EDIT This is assuming you're talking about HaloERA discord...

Glad to be here again with all of you, thanks for the SPV3 shotout in the OP!

ADS creates a longshot game, and the fact that in my opinion it was only added to the game (along with Weapon attachments) to bring in the modern twitch shooter crowd and casual players. and i think it still failed in that regard.

Smartlink is a concept that works in lore, like yeah we dont have to ADS because our suits are connected to the weapons optics, so there is no need for physically moving the gun to the face. zoom is fine.

If you ever look in 3p, or on the AR when you ADS the whole reason it's brought up to your face is so it can project a hologram onto your visor. It's kinda weird considering in the past it was always a wireless link the the gun's optics.

So did 343 say when the October update is coming for Halo 5? I might just jump in here and there. It's the last week...

I believe it's going to be November, I imagine the first week so it's all ready for the XB1X launch on the 7th. I am pretty excited to play more arena because the weapons test playlist preview really felt a lot more like Halo to me. The update also will make changes to the campaign, which in this game is always a good thing.

These all look great, but I want to weigh in and say that the visual style for Containment looks fantastic - I cannot wait to DL it and try it out tomorrow.
Thanks man, I really hope you give it a go, like I said it was a blast to design, it's definitely going for that Truth and Reconciliation, but dialled up a notch

Nilla has inspired me to force you all to look at my maps again. All original work.
Yess Sik, peddle that shit!! PEDDLE IT!
lol, seriously though, with the X update, these forge maps are gunna blow peoples minds, alot was being held back because of draw distance and aliasing

in regards to the ADS discussion.

Imo ADS is defined by reduced movement speed, jump height etc. when scoped and significantly decreased accuracy in hip fire.

H5 has neither of these and so it's not ADS.

Also where stinkles at?

Masterz noted that internally zoom in Halo 5 is ADS, soo...
And apparently it allows a lot of tweaks to things.

Personally i define ADS as having "visual effect".

Consider Wolfenstein TNO, which has ADS but it actually has zero effect on everything (ignoring that it enables use of cover). But it is ADS because it pulls weapon to your face and partially blocks your screen.

But it does do the other things ADS does. It enhances the lethality of the weapon, and tips the advantage to the person who ADS's first favor. It extends the range of guns, the bullet magnetism and homing, it increases their effectiveness and time to kill.

It might be ADS-lite, but it's still ultimately the same mechanic with not as many boxes checked as other games would have on their implementation.

ADS is... like at this point I just honestly don't care to defend it. I think it's super minor and people making are making too big a deal but, on the flipside, I don't know of anybody who really, really likes it, so if part of your community despises it with the burning fury of a thousand exploding suns and the rest of your community doesn't really give a fuck either way why not just ditch it?

Well then standard zoom is ads-lite as well because it does exactly what you describe.

The only place where H5's ads has any significant effect on gameplay is with automatic weapons. In that it slightly increases their effective range.

For precision weapons the only difference between H5 and the rest of the series is the visual aspect.
Jem, you are not winning! lol

I'll let you have sprint if you let me have Halo without ADS.

I'm completely neutral on sprint. I can take it or leave it.

Also, I actually prefer the classic implementation of zoom. I prefer how classic zoom looks and I don't particularly like the increased range of autos.

I'd rather they revert back to the classic style in H6. I'm just saying that H5 doesn't have ADS.

It'd be more accurate to say that they added zoom to every weapon in H5. The only reason people are calling it ADS is because of the visual changes.

Personally, the ADS stuff in 5 doesn't bother me greatly, but I would be completely fine if it was just removed from 6 and future titles going forward

In the past, standard zoom has only ever effected your RRR and in rare instances your accuracy.

But H5's ADS doesn't just effect the automatic weapons, it effects things from the plasma pistol, the grenade launcher, the sentinel beam (I guess that counts as automatic?), the plasma caster, the fuel rod gun, and so on.

But even with precision weapons, the ADS does effect their performance. Just take a look with the pistol in swat and see how autoaim and magnetism are altered compared to that of the BR, which unlike the pistol gets magnetism towards the head.

I do realize that there is an argument to be made that if you don't notice it, what does it really matter, but it ultimately does effect the meta of the game and peoples enjoyment. Even with something like the FRG, where the ADS benefit isn't really clear to anyone it begs the issue if it doesn't do anything, why does it exist?

If there is an option in the menus, to turn ADS off or on for Halo 6 and future titles, that would be neat. Not sure if it can be implemented that way, or if 343i would consider such an idea

You can't just say it only affects RRR when RRR has such a massive impact on combat. For precision weapons the difference between current zoom and classic zoom is negligible, I'm not sure what you're point is regarding SWAT.

As for the other weapons, they never had zoom in the first place so again I'd argue it's more accurate to describe the changes in H5 as adding zoom to all the weapons than saying it added ADS.

i figured a new thing to get annoyed about. ADS means Halo 5 does not have binoculars. I loved those for studying vistas on maps and stuff.
