Throw in a Steelbook and make a $49.99 SE!I hope the full Shenmue Passport contents are included. I'd also love it if "What's Shenmue?", "Shenmue: The Movie" and a making of documentary were also added.
I can't wait to hear the first few voice samples of Corey in Shenmue III.Technically this is Shenmue III news, but I don't think it deserves its own thread and I figured you lot might want to know.
Masaya Matsukaze - Ryo's Japanese voice actor - is gearing up to resume the role.
This is on the back of Ryo's English VA, Corey Marshall, saying that the current plan is for him to record in late May. I figure the English and Japanese dubs are going to be recording concurrently in Tokyo and LA fairly soon, if that date holds.

I will buy this (probably the Steam version) as I only ever had Shenmue II for the Xbox and never played Shenmue I.
But I hope that they remake these two games a bit like how they upgraded the graphics in Yakuza: Kiwami, maybe using the tech in Shenmue III (is it Unreal engine?).

It's paving the road to finalisation, yeah. For the animators it'll be the missing puzzle piece that lets them tie it all together and finish everything.Should this align with face animation implementation? Are we seeing the end of the road? :D
Shenmue III isn't being developed or released by Sega. Never going to get that kind of upgrade.
As someone who never played Shenmue when it originally came out, how does it hold up now?

Pretty insulting to try downplaying the genuine love people have for these games when it directly contributed towards raising the series from the dead.Shenmue is a game it seems more people pretend to like than people who generally actually like it.
It's still Sega's IP and if Sega wanted to, they could easily make Shenmue I and II remakes.
Never say never, although I do agree that SEGA likely don't have access to the art and tech created for III, and even if they did remakes aren't going to be made "easily".

This is the wrong conversation to have anyway. If I & II and III both do well enough in sales, it might open the door to IV being made under SEGA's roof.
Ehhhh, I thought that too but then I remembered the Yakuza 1 & 2 HD collection that preceded Kiwami. Of course, Yakuza is a pet series of SEGA that gets special treatment, but money (and fans) talk. If this collection makes enough for SEGA and fans shout loud enough, it might happen someday. Although the series' future is more important than going back to rebuild its past at this juncture, so IV and a potential V would have to come first. If Sega was ever going to remake the games it would have been now.
The tech licencing story was never substantiated outside the GAF post it originated from. It hit the blog circuit, and went around enough times that it gained a weird amount of false credibility despite no forthcoming details, extra clarification, or people going on the record to back it up.So what has the discussion been like about how they have finally managed to get this to happen.
As far as we were aware there was numerous licensing issues they needed to resolve, not just in game visible things, but back end tech.
Was this just folklore?
Because Kiwami is an actual remake, and SEGA are not going to shell out the money to rebuild both these games that way.Why didn't they use the Yakuza Kiwami engine to upgrade the visuals the same way they did with Yakuza 1 and 2?
Shenmue III is the most successful video game Kickstarter ever.Shenmue is a game it seems more people pretend to like than people who generally actually like it.
No, should be present across all versions. The "graphical options on PC" line is likely in reference to resolution support.Reading the OP, is the PC the only version getting improved textures/graphical options? They not upgrading the PS4/XBO versions the same way?
So many reasons. Firstly, remaking both Shenmue games in the Yakuza engine would cost more than creating a Yakuza game, and spending the equivalent of a Japanese AAA budget on Shenmue simply isn't going to happen -- not until the series has proven itself in the modern market. Why didn't they use the Yakuza Kiwami engine to upgrade the visuals the same way they did with Yakuza 1 and 2?
