It is really sad to to see all the reports and videos about Xbox One X online, but still waiting for my order to arrive at all. Had ordered early enough, the order went out on time, but the delivery service (dpd; Germany) screwed it up.

First, the tracking showed the package was delivered in july, then the next day (07th, release day) my parcel is located somewhere else in the world (in the ocean between Indonesia & the Philippines) and finally the tracking can not decide whether the shipment is somewhere in a warehouse or delivered just 10pm the day before. Called Amazon when I got home and was informed that they can do nothing more today, because the service line to dpd is already closed (they close at 6pm; wtf). Today it was possible to reach someone, but the delivery will be done tomorrow at the earliest. FUCK

Have you calibrated your set before hand?

In short though, yeah. SDR looks quite a bit flat in comparison.

I'm not sure if it's in the current public build (it might be) but the current Alpha Insider build lets you check this by going into Games & Apps, pick a game and Press the View Button (Back), which will bring you to the Manage game screen. You'll see in the details to the right whether it's installed or not. For instance Gears of War 4 says: 4K game content: Installed.

Dolby Atmos, search for the App. Not all games have native support obviously (various things on Netflix, Gears 4, RotTR, AssCreed Origins and that Insect Experience thing off the top of my head).

Thanks. I could probably have figured that one out myself, sorry. Its just confusing when information is hidden within the os. I get it, its because games shouldn't have to do all the tinkering and just play the game but im just confused.

Found atmos as well, thanks again.

Hitman is getting a One X update on Nov 7th.

4k mode.
60 fps mode.
Enhanced textures.
Improved shadows.
And more!

Looks like I'll be waiting to play the new Hitman content until I pick up a One X.

Damn. As if I needed another reason to be talked out of my 1070 laptop purchase after my experience with the Gigabyte P35X V6 and seeing the god awful products I have left to choose from. I've been searching for a month and it's freaking deflating to see what these companies are trying to sell. I might just save myself $1,500 if I can't find a reasonable laptop that doesn't make my life miserable to use outside of gaming.

Is it too late if I didn't pre-order and does any one know of a decent 4k HDR TV, that won't break the bank, to go along with one? Also, what's the going trade-in or used price I could get for an original Xbox One?

Yeah I'm sure it is making some noise if I put my ear next to it but I had the volume low enough so as to not wake a 5 week old baby and I couldn't hear it at all.

I've had to stop playing some Pro patched games at night since her arrival due to the fans on that waking her up so it's an extra bonus for me!
first of all congrats on your baby. raise him / her well.

and yes i did return my PS4 pro the same day I bought it because it sounded like a vacuum cleaner. so fuck that. i have zero tolerance for high pitched electronic noise. and you are right, if the TV volume is low and the console is like 1 meter and half away from you, you wont hear anything. its impressive.

I keep having an issue where I have my HDM I input has to be changed to go from a snowy screen or a dark screen back to normal again.

I'm having to do it every couple times I closeout a game or go back to the home screen. starting to get concerned could be as simple as changing out the HDM I cable I suppose but it sounds like an issue someone else mentioned earlier

I've been using these avforums settings as a baseline myself:

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=E2bv9ynFtOk

They've got a setting for day- and nighttime and HDR. Just adjust to suit your personal tastes.

Yea I used these for a while but it never looked right, always looked too dark and colourless, also there was always these huge white halo boxes round anything on a dark screen so it annoyed the he'll out of me lol

Cheers man and no worries on that front.

The Pro isn't vacuum bad (see my og ps4 for that) but the fans can definitely kick in at times.

Anyone knows why Ninja Gaiden isn't under the Enhanced category on my console? I thought they are also 4K?

The 360 enhanced games are using a method developed by Eric Heutchy to allow you to use the original colour range hence then showing as HDR now, as well as enhanced texture filtering in the emulation driver. He has registered a few patents on emulation and graphics drivers already in the past few years.

I'd personally love to see a deep dive technical interview with Eric on what they've actually done because it's quite remarkable how new life has been breathed into these titles.

Edit. I forgot ninja Gaiden was an OG Xbox game. I was just playing this yesterday and as it's wide-screen I totally forgot.

Suffice to say it looks really good. Still don't like the camera on it though.

70% of my HDD used eeeeeek lol. Still got a couple more games to install but I'll call it a day with Tekken 7 and The Surge. I'll need the space for Star Wars BF2 when that comes out.

Gonna have to buy an external one asap.

So far I have Halo 5, Evil Within 2, Forza 7, Titanfall 2, Gears 4, KI, MKX, CoD WW2 and some apps on the system.

I disagree, it's the HDR that makes the most difference. Even with a 2K master a good HDR UHD disc looks amazing over the regular Blu-ray.

Fair enough. Maybe Skull Island doesn't have amazing HDR or maybe it's just me expecting demo levels of quality.

Either way it wasn't as good as I was hoping.

Hopefully i'll come back to it in a few weeks with lower expectations and change my mind.

It's odd that they only put a 1TB drive in it. It doesn't make sense, outside of them wanting people to buy the Seagate Game Drive. But even then, there are lots of other external options that aren't Microsoft branded.

There comes a point where something has to be sacrificed to keep the price down. At this point in the generation a lot of people already have external HDDs so in all fairness to them 1TB is enough. 2TB would have been better of course, but then the console would probably be too expensive in reality.

My console definitely isn't constantly silent. Just now while sitting in the dashboard, just installing KI the fans started to become quite loud.

And now again.

From 'quake area to big OH.
Some of the noise is definitely the external drive. I've powered it off, and the external is still running.

While reaching back to check the external and feel for heat I noticed something. I bumped the casing of the console, center near the back and it flexed. Anyone else feel it when it's cool or hot?

Yes it's normal, also have this. There is a little bit air between the top plastic case and the inside part.

The Xbox One X is a very impressive collection of hardware crammed into a sleek case. It runs cool and quiet as it delivers performance a step above any of its console competitors. It's hard to believe Microsoft exclusives like Gears of War 4 can look so good and run so smoothly on a box that costs less than half of what you'd pay for a high-end gaming PC. Plus, it caters to home theater enthusiasts with 4K UHD Blu-ray playback and Atmos sound. Though much of the Xbox One X's impact depends on developer support and the quality of your display, it delivers exactly what was promised: the most powerful console you can buy right now, by a significant margin, with plenty of potential left to tap.

My external hard drive makes more noise than the XB1X does under load :P Kinda amazed that they managed to cram this into a space smaller than my PS4 Pro while staying a lot quieter.
this has been the greatest gaming day release I have ever experienced. so sick and tired of the new generations when you come home with one or 2 games. to be able to play15 (or 20) enhanced games right out of the box and have everything from Xbox 360 games up to brand new Xbox enhance games has been a treat.
Agreed. It was wonderful to be able to play everything that I've already been playing (with added enhanced for some titles) without needing to bust out the predecessor.

New console launches are nice but I always end up going back to the previous generation during the early days because of the game libraries. I hope that Microsoft holds true to their "no more generations" claim.

I'm not planning on buying this but I really want it to succeed. I appreciate MS making the effort to create a powerful console. After the games, power is the most important thing to me.

Fu**!!! My controller dropped from ~40cm because of that god damn headset cable. Batteries took a vacation through my room. I'll never ever put that thing on my table again. Couch till the end of time.

Seems Kong Island was only lensed in 3.4k to begin with, so that'll explain why it looks soft.

My go to Demo discs are Planet Earth II and Guardians Of The Galaxy 2, I've also read the Wonder Women transfer is good too.

The only thing I don't like about the X or the One in general is the system menu. It's such a mess even with the new update. In comparison to PS4, PS4 is almost Apple like easy and understandable. Just perfect. On One it still feels like the Developers worked on it and said "let's try this here and that there and hope this will works ahhhh F'it, release it"

How you enter your game library, or your screenshots and videos is just awkward, too much is tied to the Xbox button menu only and everything is so interleaved just not really good and intuitive.

Ok I've ordered Planet Earth 2.

I had a 7 minute demo pop up on the iPlayer showing off HLG which was amazing so if holds up to that I'll be more than happy.

I've been catching up on my Youtube subscriptions, prioritising Xbox related stuff and I just had to endure Kinda Funny Games referring to Satya Nadella as a woman over and over.

I mean seriously. If you don't know who the CEO of Microsoft is you shouldn't be doing games industry punditry, that's just embarrassing. Can you imagine a political pundit not knowing who the secretary of state is? To top it off when speaking to Albert Penello, Greg was convinced that Microsoft had said that they were killing the concept of console generations, something they have never said and instead gone to great lengths to emphasise that they want to make generation transitions easier and for it to not involve having to abandon your games library from the previous generation. It's not a complicated pitch to understand!

Their PS4 Pro commentary a year ago was bad enough but this is probably even dumber.

The worst is if they land on the triggers or bumbers. I partially broke a silver Xbox 360 controller's right bumper that way.
:(

That Xbox Button menu is now pretty much the same thing as it was on the Xbox360.

Trust trying to figure out whether or not to call this thing in.

After playing some NBA last night and assassins creed. The console behaves exactly the same. I can play in near silence for awhile and then the fans will just ramp up for about 5 seconds.....quiet down and repeat it all over again.

Since everyone else here has these whisper quiet consoles, I'm wondering if I should call this in.....or if no one else is as susceptible to noise as I am even with my atmos headset on.

This is kind of what I'm talking about

Mine did that several times yesterday I was wasn't sure if it was a fan or the disc drive as it mostly happened while I was installing something. I did not happen over & over but it was maybe 6 times I was a bit concerned as well. I will keep an eye on it today and see if it continues.
