We have several locations that are unionised, for example, all our locations in Sweden are part of the Unionen union.
As someone that works for EA, go them them I would say (regarding the content of Sam's tweet).

On this note, I personally do not understand Americans' big pushback against unions, but then I also do not understand why they think socialism is bad. 🤷‍♀️

it's because socialism and communism have been made to be the same thing by years of misinformation at a political level

Can you please link a news site reporting that?
It could be thread worthy.

Brack nimmt Spiele aus Sortiment – Sexismusskandal erschüttert «Call of Duty»-Hersteller

Mitarbeiter des US-Spielekonzerns sollen Trinkgelage veranstaltet und dabei Kolleginnen sexuell belästigt haben. Es ist nicht der erste Skandal in der Gamebranche.

And the store blog entry:

I'm not sure if this has been posted but got to love an outlet painting this as a PR war, where Kotick has to worry about their "legacy" and a whole bunch more bullshit defending a massive company. Other journalists have been calling it out but it's honestly astonishing that it made it to print. Or maybe it isn't and is just emblematic of the way some people view these issues.

But the state, either out of its concern for worker privacy or its own PR savvy, did not disclose the names of most of the perpetrators or details about the incidents and when they happened.
As I said, Townsend's stance was combative, which is good for a company trying to brush back an overzealous state agency.
What the fuck is with this bootlicking?

Don't discount how much some people, and in this case gamers, worship their favorite corporations and end up cheerleading for them.

If Scott Johnson, host of the MMO podast The Instance, is to be believed, WoW has had "the most drastic dip they've experienced." The BBC also reported on it.

I don't know how credible he is, but if anything will make Activision Blizzard better, it's angry shareholders.

That company is so tone deaf they removed /spit when targeting players in classic burning crusade because "harassment" (was an addon to spin on people with micro transaction mount in classic TBC) but you can still type things like the N word…
Spit is still in retail (Shadowlands).
I don't believe anything will change because Blizzard is rotten all the way to the ground and the only reason for change is because apparently spitting on people had a negative impact on their earnings from selling the mount.

They don't give a fuck.

How is Townsend still employed? Like even if everyine above her is just as awful, she's objectively bad for the company at this point and they have to see that.

I don't understand it. She also seems objectively bad for the damn lawsuit. Part of their defense is that the company isn't so bad 'anymore' but she's still gaslighting the women today

For context, Tracy is one of the producers on Overwatch.

Hopefully they realize that people like Tracy need to have a lot more of a say in the company's culture and people like Fran need to have none at all. That is how Blizzard can start improving their company's toxic culture.

Just try to read that Atlantic article. I dare ya.
That was one of the most tedious, self-indulgent articles I have ever read. Yeesh.

I can believe it.

The game was already leaking players (at least temporarily) with the reaction to the 7.1 update. And now, under revelations far, far more serious and disgusting, it stands to reason that players that would put up with dumb Blizzard storytelling are not in fact OK with Blizzard being a nightmare hellhole work environment. And those players can easily migrate to FFXIV or any other MMO to continue playing with their group, assuming that this doesn't get them to kick the MMO habit cold turkey. WoW needs its players far more than its players need WoW, and I hope that everyone leaving the game over these events is able to find a positive experience in another game if they so choose.

While FFXIV is the replacement for a lot of people, it just doesn't work for me; nor does any other MMO on the market. There's a WoW-shaped hole in my heart that nothing can fill. I hope Blizzard and the WoW team can eventually improve. They certainly have the financial incentive to do so.

FF XIV never felt like a replacement of any sort in the first place. Ill still play Endwalker later in the year probably and then just never touch MMOs again. Looking at the list of new MMOs coming out most of them still look very similar, and/or dated.

Spent half a day yesterday to do a write-up of a lot of things that happened and, mostly, compiling the words and tweets of those affected. I always feel like pages over here don't report on this shit at all, or if so, only very surface level to not burn bridges with valuable publishers or partners, or get harassed by your typical capital G Gamers, which kinda sucks.

The crazy thing is that despite having a 4k words essay, i still feel like i missed a ton of important and worthy stuff and stories from the women affected.

A friend told me he had to stop half way because of how much it sucks to read all these quotes compressed like this so it can't be the worst text I've written lol

Believable.

We've been playing Legion for 5 years now. Aka, little to no changes made to how endgame plays.

This game is in dire need for some inspiration and change. Perhaps some of the voices they silenced can breathe new life into this dying game?

So i havent been keeping up with all the news lately. But has there been a statement or is there a link to a rundown on what the states endgame is? What is it they are hoping to accomplish? Are they looking for firings and fines? Jail time for some? Both?

Just was wondering what state is hoping to achieve?

the complaint's prayer for relief section outlines what the state wants. no they're not looking for prison sentences, this is a civil lawsuit.

I know people feel strongly about the store mount shit for TBC classic but if there was a concerted effort from players to /spit on anyone riding the mount. That's not okay? It's clear Blizzard has inconsistent priorities, that doesn't change that the classic playerbase was apparently harassing others who bought a bundle for tbc classic. It should be removed.

I was wondering precisely this. Surely at this point Blizzard has much more to gain from very publicly letting her go and distancing themselves from her as much as possible, than from keeping her? Is it because they still perceive her as the only one able to justify the unjustifiable in the public's eye? Or because she's liable to cause even more damage on her wayout, or sue them? Or because they are simply that PR incompetent and tone deaf at the company?

It's written in German, so y'all won't get much out of it :) Basically a "shortened" history of what happened so far, with lots of quotes and asking to listen to women.

https://giantenemycrab.de/am-aaabgrund-was-ist-los-bei-blizzard/ if anyone's interested. Site's not completely done yet, but I wanted to get it out there anyway. Obvious trigger warnings for violence, mistreatment, abuse and suicide.

Don't get it either. How do they expect people to do quality work when the morale has been destroyed completely.

She's technically not employed by Blizzard, but by the holdings company, Activision Blizzard. I don't think anyone from Blizzard can actually do anything about that.

So I guess this is the answer from the mod team.
Literally every publisher and studio in the industry is guilty of misogyny and sexism. There isn't a single one that hasn't had someone come forward against them. Ubisoft, Riot, Insomniac, Microsoft, Naughty Dog, the list goes on and on and on. Big publishers and independent developers both. This is systemic across the entire industry. Banning just one publisher/studio and not all of the others sends a message that we only care about this when it gets particularly bad. It's wholly unacceptable regardless of who does it.

Banning just Acti/Blizz sends the message that it's just them that's the problem. They aren't the only ones. It's everyone. Every game we enjoy is tainted by this, there is no getting around that or minimizing it. This is why we pointed people towards charities to help women because this is a systemic problem. You cannot pretend it's just Acti/Blizz because it isn't. You don't get to write this off as just a single studio or publisher.
(Its the lock thread post of a thread they locked)
Pretty much "everyone is bad, so Resetera will not even put a pinned message on Activision threads", while donating to charity is good, its comes off as bad faith saying that this site cant do more, this reads as pretty tone deaf in my opinion, reading all the news that are still coming out from this, the mod team wont even take a stance and will lock any thread talking about what can Resetera do to not support this kind of companies oof.

I'd be shocked if someone like Townsend is fired. Activison Blizzard brought shitty Republicans like her in on purpose. This fucking bitch is a torture apologist who reportedly pushed for intensive torture in Iraq.

So I get why a lot of you don't get why she is still employed but she serves a purpose for within the company. All this twitter stuff doesn't matter. Yes it's bad PR but it's not "important." Kotick and the rest of the cunts at the top won't give it a moment's notice as long as they get through this moment. Having people like her is beneficial to that goal because they don't want change. Changing means admitting wrongdoing and admitting wrongdoing is not good when you are being sued lol.

Is the chance of an out-of-court settlement with a built-in gag order less likely when its a goverment agency suing? Cause it seems like that would be the obvious play for Activision-Blizzard. Settle out of court, make sure the details of the investigation dont become public, fire all the people who were compromised in the report, make some high profile equality/diversity hirings, create a new position such as "equality CEO" or something like that for the PR angle.

One detail that seems important to me is that the state is asking for an injunction, which suggests that they're interested in actually fixing Activision Blizzard going forward and not just damages. I'd have to imagine that would make it harder to negotiate a settlement with them since it's basically what a settlement would be trying to avoid.

Right. Hopefully it all stays public, but that would be the worst case scenario for Activision-Blizzard, so I can imagine that they would be willing to go quite a long way to make sure it doesnt get out, especially with the shareholders watching. If the details of that report are as shocking as one would suspect given the recent stories, the shareholders might even want to force Kotick out if it goes public.

Though I still find weird that I haven't found any official response from the mod team about how they are gonna handle this kinds of companies here, you have to pretty much look for it on locked threads, which doesn't look too good honestly.

The IGN article talks about this, supposedly the general vibe from workers after the walkout was that they feel that was just the beginning.

It also details that it was organized pretty well, and that everyone that participated was paid that day.

It's a totally weaksauce response rooted in the "if we can't do it all, then we shouldn't do any of it" fallacy.

The argument that highlighting this current Activision Blizzard would send the wrong message is also BS. It's rooted in the idea that you are hypocritical if you are targeted in your focus. We should have conversations like this about every company, especially when the stories of abuse get blown out into the public. At minimum, a sticky of both a main Blizzard Activision thread and a "here's what you can do" thread would help.

The general vibe is: we aren't willing to do anything as a leadership team.
