It will be different for sure, mostly because if it's the same (assign stress tokens) some abilities up there doesn't make any sense. Feroh's, for instance.

I guess it will be something like "assign one Jam token to a enemy ship at Range 1-2".

Well that's certainly something. I must admit I was expecting a 2nd ed any day now but I didn't think it would be announced before the Tie Reaper was on the shelves (but at least it looks like they've done the right thing by making that expansion have cards for both editions of the game).

I wonder how the app will work.
Free for everyone? Register expansions? Will it include all cards for everything? Is having the app enough along with minis, bases and that stuff, with no actual cards needed on table?

oh man this sounds so good

SO GOOD

As someone who fell off of X-Wing after all of the recent expansions this sounds amazing.

X-Wing Second Edition makes several changes that refine the core mechanics used by the first edition, cleaning up interactions and refocusing the game on the physical act of flying starships. Some of the more noticeable changes include red actions that induce stress, linked actions on ship cards, the introduction of the Force, upgrades with a limited number of "charges," changes to turrets, and the ability to repair damage on your ships
sounds kinda good actually, I'm interested in how it will all play out! (and here I was thinking they'd keep any big announcements for May the 4th)

"veterans can use each faction's conversion kit to bring their entire collection of first edition ships into the game's second edition"

I was terrified until I got to this part. Not that I really thought that they would render current ships obsolete, but one can never know...

The conversion kits are a bit expensive but much less to than rebuying everything.
They also seem to be pretty good for casuals like me, basically everything necessary is included, though i wish the Imperial kit had three TIE Defenders rather than just two (this was in a FAQ that vanished), but i'll make do.

So I'm in a weird place... I have 2 starter sets (one core one force awakens) open and played. The TFA stuff won't be useful for a while.

I also own Imperial Aces/Rebel Aces, Falcon, Decimator, and an imperial shuttle... but all un-opened. I "missed the boat" on this one so I fell off but was looking to pick back up, but now I'm debating just selling all the un-opened stuff and starting "fresh". The conversion kits don't seem worth it with my small amount of actually played ships....

It may take a long time for all the existing ships to be converted with new second edition expansions. And some things like Aces packs probably won't be re-released as 2ed expansions at all, and they do contain ships with unique paint jobs. Still, with that few ships, i can see why a conversion kit doesn't appeal.
On the other hand, you could get conversion kits and sell the parts of it you don't need. Already some folks are complaining the kits don't have enough of certain ship cards.

Either way, you probably want to follow the news, once there's more information a decision is easier to make.

it looks like I'll be able get my entire collection up to 2.0 with just a Rebel and an Imperial conversion kit, except for the TIE Fighters I have in a swarm. To get those up to speed, I can preorder a new Core set and get the promo damage deck. I'm perfectly fine with this.

Although these days* Ive heard some beauty things that will be announced this next Tuesday. If half of them are true, we are in for a treat.!

Not just half of them are true, everything I was told during the Open has been true! I'm extremelly happy with everything they have shown. I can't wait for september.

Also, Team Covenant has uploaded a game with Alex Davy. Really recommended to watch.

The more I read about 2.0,the more excited I get. So far all changes seem great, even the built in squadbuilder means they can point-balance the game at a whim. No more need for new ships with new upgrades to fix a ship, just make certain upgrades cheaper and voila. Also really like that upgrades will now be shared among ships of the same wave, so no more buying a ship you don't really want just to get that one card (harpoon missiles probably), really appreciate that!

However it looks like they're increasing the price as well, a single xwing for $19.99, if that comes down to €20 that would mean a €5 price hike...

Yeah I'm really not happy with the price hike that has come with this. Happy to buy the upgrade packs and what not but fuck paying that for a TIE Fighter. I'm hoping the conversion when it comes over to EU and UK isn't as painful.

I'm always look for excuses to jump in again to play and not just collect stuff, but the prices are yikes. 50 bucks for paper and cardbpard for only one faction?

Everything about the App sounds awesome though.

You can undoubtedly sell or trade stuff you don't need and recoup some costs.

Seen many folks suggest this is really a new game, and in certain sense it sure does feel like that. Dungeons&Dragons editions are all separate games really, despite the naming, this is the same thing. So, 50 money for other game stuff usable for this game doesn't sound too bad.
Hell, it could've been much, much worse, like individual conversion kits (ie overall much more expensive), all factions in one gigantic pack, much more expensive, etc...

My local game store has prices up...
Ah, fuck. Conversion kits are 60€. Of course, this does include taxes, not sure how prices in the US are displayed. Expansion ships are identically priced to with existing ship expansions though, but then again my gaming store does mark up these things. EDIT Strike that, new ships are more expensive as well, and marked up to boot.
Another store has lower prices but i lose the price difference to shipping, so eh.

They are streaming a couple games on their Twitch channel. Right now it's a Vader-TIEs vs Wedge-Luke-Ywing. Later Boba and two Fangs will enter the arena.

Conversion kits seems to be 50€, as per the Spanish FFG website.

Small ships are 20€. The Firespray is still at 30€, no idea what will happen with the other medium ships (K-wing, ARC, Punisher...) that costs 20€ at this moment.

Yeah, well, the local store marks them up. 24€, 36€, respectively. No Finnish FFG site so can't order direct.
If i order online from other stores, i end up paying the difference in shipping (unless i do a really large order), or save few euros at most (and have to wait few days or more).

Holy crap, do they not have any competition? My FLGS sells all boardgames at 30% off and miniatures at 25% off if I pay a $25 annual subscription fee.

They also include Medium Ship bases for the new category.

And I feel like I'm alone in thinking that converting one's collection for $1.35 per ship isn't that bad? I know I'll be buying one of each kit and trading/selling/buying other people's leftovers.

How many ships does each Conversion Kit convert?

The number of ships supported (by maneuver dials included) in each Conversion Kit are:

Rebel Alliance Conversion Kit
3 – A-wing
2 – ARC-170
2 – Auzituck Gunship
2 – B-wing
2 – E-wing
2 – Ghost
2 – HWK-290

4 – TIE Fighter
3 – TIE Interceptor
2 – TIE Phantom
2 – TIE Punisher
3 – TIE Striker
2 – VT-49 Decimator
Scum and Villainy Conversion Kit
2 – Hound's Tooth

Sure, in other cities, and naturally online. But shipping costs tend to be on high side for small orders, for some reason. And they are the most popular place so... Finland ain't populous place, there isn't much competition for niche things.

I don't think they mark up everything though, just the most popular things like X-wing stuff (and they're never on sale as far as i've noticed). Other stuff is usually more reasonably priced.
I do wonder if they use different importer than others, that could explain higher prices beyond "we can". Other stores do have prices closer to usual euro-prices, but they also tend to have poorer availability for some things.

Also, annual subscriptions for stores o.O? Never heard of such things.
The store does have this "board game pass", gives 20€ off after certain amount of stuff bought but overall isn't much.

As hype as I am for 2.0, it's just put me off 1.0 entirely. It explains why Krennic is so powerful in 1.0, because it basically means nothing.

I'm just gonna fly fun and stupid shit for the next 4 months. Screw being competitive.

I think that outlook is for the better. Competitive play has been stifled to me since the jumpmaster release. Since then, they've released so many quality mechanics that have expanded the game in great ways, and it's been a shame that only those particular expansion ships features the mechanics. 2.0 is so obviously deserved, and I'm glad it's as big of an overhaul as it needs.

Treat the game like a fun experience it is!

That playmat looks so wrong for space fighters.

BTW, is there any good trick for making ships to stick to the mat more, to avoid accidental sliding? And especially asteroids and debris.

Non-slip adhesive pads under the base, like these.

GYkYnkM.png

The main issue is to find some of the correct height. 2mm if I remember correctly, I think 3mm was too much. Cut them in four triangles and stick one to each corner. For big bases you may want a fifth part in the center.

Asteroids... some people I know use a bit of Blu Tack, but you must be careful on how much you put in or it may not be completely flat.

I don't know if anyone of you is watching World's (Top4 will start shortly), but Simeon Dellapina plays on the Top8 game is something else. An excellent-flown Brobot list is quite a beautiful thing to witness. Especially the crowd-control variant.

The other top4 game at https://www.twitch.tv/Goldsquadronpodcast
Yeah, I just watched that last match. I was actually bummed that the bomber didn't go off the board just due to how incredible the flying was for Simeon to set up those shots to begin with.

The last three streamed games on the FFG channel have been awesome, mostly due Simeon and his IG magic. Really, really worth to watch them on the archives.

FFG posting the art for the new Vader card for euros makes me think that we'll get Wedge in store champions. Because worlds gets the Scum PS6, Euros gets the Imp PS6 and so Stores should get the Reb PS6.

I'm liking all of this. Bullseye arcs being a built-in mechanic for upgrades to modify is fantastic. All ships getting reworked dials is a dream come true. Barrel roll and repositioning getting reigned in while dropping the 360° Primary Weapon Turret design is just glorious.

I can't wait to see the cloak rework, HWK-290's dial, and what they've done with Defenders and Gunboats!

There are unconfirmed reports (people asked the devs off the record at worlds) that the HWK is going to be a 2 attack ship with a primary turret. Already a vast improvement.

There's a bad Polish translation or something. Basically you can, with some condition, also perform free turret rotate action or something like that.
I reckon it will be quite expensive, people are crying about it way too early, consider how little info there is.

Considering this is one of the three things Luke does in the original movie, I'm okay with this.

The translation I've seen -no idea how accurate it is- is a "at the beggining of combat phase you may spend 1 force token to rotate your secondary firing arc.", and regenerates one Force token per turn. So yeah, on a high PS ship (so there's no risk the intended target will die before his activation) is like having 360.

ldSnV7o.png

It surelly will be quite expensive.

Figure it will depend on what else the Force can be used for. Obviously if that's all the Force you have, then using it to change the turret facing is no-brainer. But if you need it for something else as well... well, there's limited amount of Force available and limited regen.
Either way, we're looking at an expensive card, and since card prices can depend on ships, i highly doubt it will be a real problem. Slapping Luke on MF Han Solo (likely initiative 6) can be way more expensive than using Luke on initiative 5 or less ship.
