what a weird response. "what's GOP?" and somehow know it's an American thing, and then also insulting America. hmm.

One can assume. I looked it up afterwards.

Man With a Plan isn't political at all. Sure, Last Man Standing is, but if you look past that there's a rather good sitcom there. I don't care about politics, so the politics in it don't bother me. I can also separate the show from the viewpoints of its star, who I grew up with on Home Improvement.

I loved Home Improvement. But that was also a different time. Trying to hang in the 70's-90's politics and ways of thinking in 2010's is not good. I can still appreciate Home Improvement now because I loved it then, but I don't think kids these days should hold those same values.

So they renewed Westworld and The Handmaid's Tale already, that's so nice. Unfortunately I haven't had much time in April and now I'm playing catch up with all the awesome shows returning at the end of April. :(

I should've started watching Handmaid's Tale when it began. I didn't know it'd end up being so good or so well received.

Now, if only they'd marathon the first season. (I don't stream)

That's fine. You're entitled to your own opinion and taste. There's no need to attack people for liking something else.

AV Club has an interview with Alan Cumming and apparently he has a new show coming - watching the trailer for it was bizzare, because the whole damn thing has the same plot as Castle pilot.

https://youtu.be/DcuN4vCVaVg

A successful author gets contacted by the cops because a serial killer is using methods from his books. The author tags along, and helps a female officer solve the case.

They only changed the main character to be an ex-cia.

Yeah, it's already been out for a few weeks. It's.....alright, the couple episodes I saw. Nothing too special.

Fair enough. It just seemed interesting to me that you equated the two.

I, and some other people I know (who I didn't introduce it to), really like the show for what it is. The politics are my least favourite part of the show, but they don't really bother me nor do they ruin my enjoyment of it. They're never brought up in conversation between us.

Man With a Plan is just another newer sitcom that's come out of the blue (to me at least) and been better than most, and better than expected. I consider both to be two of the better sitcoms in recent years, hence the comparison. Rules of Engagement is another.

Tim Goodman on the new efforts of keeping or cancelling a show, and the whole two-season up front idea versus three seasons now being considered a success. Worth reading the whole article, but two snippets:

Critic's Notebook: Decoding the New Normal for Keeping or Canceling a TV Series

https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/b...-normal-keeping-canceling-a-tv-series-1107180
This strangely makes a lot of sense. We see shows that do okay try to get a second chance with a second season renewal, and if it doesn't do well after that then it gets cancelled. Plus, I've been noticing more and more lately that shows are choosing to end after three seasons but it's not being seen as cutting it short, more that it's the perfect time to end. I'm also noticing that many shows that go beyond 3 seasons lose their steam, and shows that last for 5 seasons or more are seen as too long and should've ended years before.

It's incredible how steady the 100 is after the Lexa fiasco. It helps that the current season is solid. Also hard to watch how much the Flash has fallen, though that is deserved as well.

And apparently, young people really hate Rise. I figured that was the demographic NBC would be after.

Jonathan Majors to play the male lead for "Lovecraft Country."

Penned by Green based on the 2016 novel by Matt Ruff, Lovecraft Country follows Atticus Black (Majors) as he joins up with his friend Letitia (Smollett-Bell) and his Uncle George to embark on a road trip across 1950s Jim Crow America in search of his missing father. Thus begins a struggle to survive and overcome both the racist terrors of white America and the terrifying monsters that could be ripped from a Lovecraft paperback.

Majors' Atticus Black is a Korean war vet who always has a pulp novel in his back pocket, and wears his heart on his sleeve despite the daily injustice of living in Jim Crow America.

Peele and Green executive produce, along with Bad Robot's Abrams and Ben Stephenson, David Knoller and Yann Demange, who directs the first episode.

Majors has been a rising talent since graduating from the Yale School of Drama in 2016. He co-starred opposite Christian Bale in Scott Cooper-helmed Hostiles, which was released last fall, and was hailed as a breakout star of ABC miniseries When We Rise, which he landed while still in school.

I've found New Girl to be quite funny the past couple of seasons. I believe it was season 3 that was a real dumpster fire that I didn't think they'd recover from, but they managed it. Granted, it's almost always funnier when Jess isn't involved in any way though.

Lethal Weapon continues to drop. Although not sure how much difference it makes with the whole situation going on with Clayne Crawford. There is a part of me who hopes they can get it worked out with him, it really is a great show and would like to see it continue. And no, not with a replacement actor/actress. May as well just cancel it if it comes to that.

Definitely warming up to 9-1-1, show works best when its not trying to be too serious.

I enjoyed the first season, but just getting tired of the repeating issue with Connie Britton in not wanting to stay long with a series. I like her as an actress, but it's frustrating when you start to enjoy a series with her and she continues to leave.

9-1-1 was a big, dumb blast. Way better than anything else Murphy has going right now.

Does anyone watch Brooklyn 99. I swear Terry calls Charles by the name "Joe" in the episode when Charles is going into a limo. Not sure if I missed the context of him saying that or if there was a slip up. Episode isn't on my DVR anymore. Anyone know the scene I'm taking about?
Hey I'm watching the episode now and I thought I'd let you know you're right, I'm watching with captions and Terry Crews says "Joe, let us get in the limo please" and then also says No. So yeah, they completely missed Terry calling him Joe lol.

Variety: Apple Gives Series Order to Octavia Spencer Drama 'Are You Sleeping'
Apple has given a series pickup to the Octavia Spencer starrer "Are You Sleeping," from Reese Witherspoon's Hello Sunshine and Chernin Entertainment/Endeavor Content.

The drama will examine the nation's long-held obsession with true-crime stories and the recent boom in podcasts dedicated to probing unsolved and disputed cases. Nichelle Tramble Spellman ("The Good Wife") created the show and will serve as showrunner. Apple has ordered 10 episodes.

"Are You Sleeping" is based on the novel of the same name by Kathleen Barber, which questions the consequences when crime-solving plays out on a public stage.
Deadline: 'Swamp Thing' Drama Series In Works At DC Digital Service, 'Metropolis' Heads To Redevelopment
Written by Mark Verheiden (Ash vs. Evil Dead) and It co-writer Gary Dauberman, Swamp Thing centers on CDC researcher Abby Arcane. When she returns to her childhood home of Houma, Louisiana, in order to investigate a deadly swamp-borne virus, she develops a surprising bond with scientist Alec Holland — only to have him tragically taken from her. But as powerful forces descend on Houma, intent on exploiting the swamp's mysterious properties for their own purposes, Abby will discover that the swamp holds mystical secrets, both horrifying and wondrous — and the potential love of her life may not be dead after all.
Titans was supposed to be followed by Metropolis, about Lois Lane and super villain Lex Luthor. The live-action drama, which had a 13-episode straight-to-series order for a 2019 debut, will now be redeveloped.
Not too sure about a Swamp Thing series led principally by Abby. This really should be a Hannibal-esque deep dive into Swamp Thing's changing awareness and the horrors he encounters, and Vincenzo Natali should be directing since he's expressed interest in the character for a decade.

There are clearly two cuts that went out. I was specifically listening for it, and on my broadcast version it was Charles. I just checked what was available on-demand, and lo and behold, it's Joe.

Edit: Or damn, maybe I just fooled myself. Or we're all fooling ourselves and he yelled some kind of "yo" as Crews claims.

I was confused by the mention of Turn: Washingon's Spies, though. I know that was never an acclaimed show but didn't it actually turn out to be a solid performer for AMC on Saturday nights?

His bits about AMC are a bit odd -

He lists McMafia as a 'colossal failure' and 'likely cancellation', forgetting that it's a co-production and was the BBC's biggest new series of the year. Sure, it didn't do very well linearly on AMC, but for what it's worth, they were touting its success on AMC Premiere, so there was clearly some value in it for them as well. Plus, it was renewed.

He threw The Son into the same category as I'm Dying Up Here and The Chi, which is just plain wrong. The Son didn't shatter records by any means, but it performed solidly for AMC.

Turn: Washington's Spies was a very poor performer in live ratings (and DVR ratings), but it apparently did well On Demand and with upscale viewers. Plus, AMC owned the series outright, so they wanted to have a completed series to increase its catalog value.

Please Jesus let BK99 get renewed. This season has been a glorious return to form

Also happy to see Jonathan Majors in Lovecraft country. I was interested in the series anyway with the pedigree but he really wowed me in hostiles. I swear I sat there thinking "who is THIS guy, he is goooood"

I missed the announcement, but I guess One Day at a Time got renewed for Season 3. I was scrolling through my Netflix list and it says Season 3 coming 2019.

Yep! Looks like it was by the skin of their teeth too. Hopefully they'll set the third season up as a final one just in case since apparently Netflix is trying to go harder on sci-fi and fantasy programming.
