Lovely game, I played extensively yesterday and it was a great -though unsurprising, having grown up with the original trilogy- experience. The highlight by far is the music: it lives up to what I've read these years.

I'm only worried about how long (or short) it is. After barely three/four hours, I've already started the fourth world. If I had no interest on hard mode or completionist routes, I'd be done with the game by tomorrow or this same afternoon. That's probably the only measure where Odyssey satisfies me more, but being as good as I think it is, replaying levels won't be a problem.

The Nintendo Power podcast confirms that Retro Studios was the developer, including Funky Kong mode.

Not so much wood, but it sounds like bongos to me. I don't remember it from the Wii U either but apparently it played the enemy hit sound effect through the gamepad and mine was always muted so maybe it was like that the whole time.
Same here I played in the WiiU using the Pro controller, so I'm not used to the bongo sound.

So yeah this is a great game and all and for those of you who think it's the best Wii U game I'm glad you're now able to play it on Switch but man as much as I am enjoying it I also can't shake the feeling that I would love to be playing Super Mario 3D World, Xenoblade Chronicles X or The Wind Waker HD on it instead, as my favourite Wii U games. It'll break my wallet and all but I just want them all porter after playing this- it's just so much better overall. If we had a repeat so to speak of this last few months next year but the Wii U ports are those 3 games and maybe like and Animal Crossing or 2D Mario then I for one will be delighted. Sucks for the people who who can't stop whining ATM but the more Wii U ports the better ad far as I am concerned, as long as they're as good as this one.

I mean personally none of the titles you've mentioned touch Donkey Kong for me, but I'd still like to see them ported. Particularly 3D World.

3D World would be such a fun party game, and would scratch a platforming itch in a way that Oddysey just doesn't.

That said man, we live in a time where Nintendo are porting a GameCube title to the 3DS 7 years after it launches. I think they'll cool off the ports for a while after Q1-2, but what do I know really? It's easy money, I bet Donkey Kong and Hyrule Warriors will make a huge profit.

The music in this game is stop playing the game good. To just sit and fucking listen.

Looks so good with the res bump. The art is so damn good. Only starting level 3 now and I played this game a ton on Wii U!

It's still MAGIC!!! MAGIC DOESN'T GO OUT OF STYLE.

I honestly think DKCR is a much better game than this. I'm not finding it as fun.

I enjoyed Odyssey, but I've only got 30 hours playtime max out of it. Beyond that, it becomes clear that the worlds aren't really that big, are stuffed with far too many moons, and after you reach the threshold for the Darker Side, there's no point in collecting any more.

lol, I can't even tell that the game is sub-720 in handheld. The people that were complaining are silly.

Never had the chance to play it since the switch is my first Nintendo console so I'm eager to finally dig into this donkey Kong. I love platformers and it seems this game has a lot of charm.
But i didn't expect it to cost 60eu. I mean damn, for a (good) port of a wii u game that's a lot. Sadly I'll just wait until I find it at a decent price in store.

I love this game so much. I didn't go for all the KONGs on the Wii U version and still had a great time but this is something else.

What actually happens if you run out of lives btw? Is there any point to them at all?

My only gripes with the game are the long bosses, non improved bonus rooms (which really needed some updates) and whats the point of underwater breath? I feel it adds nothing to the experience. Other than that I agree one of the best platformers ever made.

60 euros (that is 52 euros in most stores tbh, at least in Barcelona) is expensive for a port, but it's a fair price for the game content and quality-wise.
If you have the game for the U, isn't worth , but as a new player I can't see how the game is less fair price-wise compared to any other AAA game out there.
Nintendo knows that mostly new players will buy the game, so they decided to be as greedy as possible...

God, somehow I wish I didn't still own this game and also still have my Wii U plugged in.

I'm trying to find even the smallest reason under the sun to double dip on this but I cannot justify it no matter what how hard I try.

Exactly. I understand their move but I don't find it fair as a consumer.
I mean i paid 40 for a full remake of SotC or for the crash bandicoot trilogy.
I don't doubt the game in itself is worth it, but this comparison is preventing me from buying it at the moment.
Glad to see everybody is enjoying it as much tho, it's a treat i reserve for myself for another time!

Its portable. If you buy a digital copy you will always have access to the game for a quick level replay at a convenient time

Sure, but given I don't play platformers on my commute, the Wii U version is technically portable for me, too.

Same. I'm super happy that new and returning fans are enjoying this wonderful wonderful game, but the fact that this actually cost more than when it was originally released for very little added in, I can't help but raise an eyebrow to this.

This should be interesting. Why exactly do you feel this way?
I don't know why I'm feeling bored already. Like I'm not excited to play more. Feels more like a chore and not enjoying it. So I went back to CR and found it fun, even though I died in one of the mining cave levels almost 15 times, but I kept wanting to play again. Not the same feeling in TF.

Currently in 2-5, alpine incline.

Don't know what it is. Maybe because I'm using the stick instead of the dpad? *shrug*

The bosses are indeed long, it works for some bosses (the Owl boss is pretty good) and it's tiring on some other ones.
I think that the bosses have this "retro" feeling (no pun intended) , long fights that makes the player memorize all the moves, with little room for error.
The bonus rooms are... bonus... I never was that concerned about them, it's not like they break the levels.
Underwater breath it's pretty important on some levels from the sea world, the Key level, the octopus level etc...
It's a way to make the water levels more difficult and less relaxing, using a timer to make the player move faster all the time.
And it makes plenty of sense tbh.

Just got to world three and man the first level is just astounding. The music here blew me away withe the African theme of the level. Never got the hype for this game until now.

Bought this game yesterday, I must be about 5 hours into it. Havent even got to the second boss yet. Can't wait to finish work and dig into it again. Amazing OST, beautiful color pallette, best platforms levels I've ever played... Why didn't I buy a Wii U when this game came out?

Played the first world, got all kongs letters and most puzzle pieces. Tried to beat the temple stage there.
Lol as fucking hard as ever, thought i had it until i got to a new part were i died and was then hard to always get there to try.
The boss was the worst part of world 1. Boring and long. Also it has a really strange death animation cut into the hit him transition. Like a cutscene is missing or something in between.

Why that 2 euros tax for you guys?
Its 49 euros in every mediamarkt and carrefour in valencia (55 in fnac and 60 in GAME).

I dunno, in Amazon.es is 52,90 ,same on the MediaMarkt web, and yeah, some webs have the game at 49,95 but the shipping costs 3 euros everywhere...
TBH, I rarely go to physical stores , I buy everything at Amazon, so maybe there's places where you can buy the game 3 € cheaper as you said.

The three first worlds are great, then the 4th world depends on how you like water levels, but the two last worlds are insanely good (and hard from time to time).

I can't believe it's been four years already, some of these songs feel like an old friend when they come in.

The steel drums in Busted Bayou, oh man
