more important games? halo3 (and cod4) brought online gaming to the mainstream. theres a shout to halo2 but the og xbox didnt have the worldwide reach of the 360. halo3 sold 15 million copies. and that was just on one console. cod4 sold 16 million but that included pc and ps3. halo3 dominated xbox live game with the most play time. they launched with over a million people playing at the same time. had some insane attach rate, like 50% of people were playing halo3 at launch. and there was some insane stat of something like a billion games of halo3 were played of the span of the next 5 years. halo3 was the catalyst for ms to 'win' last gen. at least early on. its arguably the most important game of last gen.
Ooh, yeah get Modern Warfare in there. It basically declare the end of dominance from games like Halo and more arcadey shooters.

Gun to my head, Halo 3 vs CoD 4, it's CoD 4 every time.

Infinity Ward changed the multiplayer game forever.

If that wasn't enough, their follow up was Modern Warfare 2. Like sheeeesh.

Yea cod 4 is a must at some point.

Also replaying it with the remake highlighted how well that single player campaign holds up as well. A no brainer

If its ok, I'm just gonna post my bet sheet once in a while. I could use some help with the red boxes. It is info I am missing.

Easy Allies BET Sheet (made with Google Docs)

-Any red boxes visible means I am missing info, any information to fill those boxes would be a great help. Thanks!
-If you see any bets missing, please post a timestamp of the bet, and a timestamp of the result and I'll get to it ASAP. Thanks!

Not going to lie. One of the most anticipated things for E3 is the continuation of the ramen noodle frame trap lore

There's going to be consequences for those demon noodles

Doom and halo are very similar. Doom defined what a fps is; halo defined what a modern fps is (duel analog.) Both had huge multiplayer communities. Both games elevated there companies creating them to juggernaut status.

I personally think halo has more impact on the industry at large than doom does BUT the first time I played doom was on the Xbox 360 so I deffinatly wasn't aware of doom impact in the moment.

By that logic then does Unreal since the unreal engine is still impacting games being made to this day?
Maybe, though it's not the same thing. It's not about reusing the engine to other games/purposes, it's about how it was done. Doom wasn't even 3D, yet created a type of 3D gameplay and was used for other first person games in actual 3D. It paved way to other games to render graphics and made possible (or viable) stuff that wasn't before. It made FPSes a thing not only because of how it played, but because of how it was made and designed.

And even without taking that into account, it's just one of the aspects that made Doom super influential, even outside of the gaming sphere. Not to knock on Halo at all, but to say Halo is more influential than Doom is crazy. People are still putting Doom on every machine under the sun, modding it, creating and mixing new genres or settings on it. Covering its songs, discussing about its horror and violence. Learning how to code from it. Studying its level design, its sound design. This game, like Street Fighter 2, the Dreamcast, Tetris, The Beatles and a handful of other stuff simply will never go out of style and will never die.

Not that Halo doesn't have a lot of that going on with it too - but the examples cited, along with Doom, are just on another level.

Btw, Doom was made because Carmack was into D&D, so... :V

Influence =/= Greatness

Unless y'all wanna say Pac-Man is better than TLOU, P4G, Galaxy, BotW, etc
There is a tiny bit of correlation though. I think it's important to measure both, specially since influence is also a little bit more objective. Personally, I think the game design of TWEWY is essentially flawless, and the game as whole is one of my greats. If I was in a HoG induction and had to say TWEWY "greater" than SotN though, I would not, even if I think SotN is more flawed. The care put into SotN's craft and its importance to the industry are undeniable and very important to recognize and celebrate.

Buuuuuuut that's just me.

at his time, sure

tlou is gonna get surpassed by tlou 2, what's the point in admitting it on the HoG to take it out next year when tlou 2 is out?

What? Games don't get taken out of the hall if they're surpassed, and you can't leave a game out because you think another game (that's not out yet and we haven't seen gameplay of) might be better.

Halo stream was aight. I didn't grow up playing a bunch of Halo so the nostalgia didn't really hit me, but it was still a jolly stream. Simple thing they need to improve on is consistently labeling who is who when multiple Allies are playing at a time. For some reason they only did this like 25% of the stream.

IMO, the best moment of that Halo stream was when they changed to DK:TF lol

I tried watching Halo and had to skip it after a few minutes. Game just isn't interesting to me anymore. The DK:TF stuff was great, though.

Really pleased to see Friend Code back. Damiani has become an excellent host (see also the Infinity Wars Spoilercast) and the new iteration is the best yet. Great idea to incorporate the Patron's Pulse questions into the main podcast.

Finally got around to finishing God of War (even platinumed it damn those eyes of odin) and immediately spun up the GoW spoilercast. What a fantastic video that was! After seeing a few of these sorts of videos with Barlog from a handful of other outlets now as well I can confidently say that this was by far the best one. Some excellent questions and genuinely fascinating insight into the development process and mindset behind various parts of the game. Just wanted to reiterate again that y'all really are the best in biz. Appreciate ya!

Friend Code is up! (5$ Early Access)

My first week as a Patron and I'm so happy to see Friend Code back.

One thing I wish Damiani would understand though: Luigi's Mansion remake, Bowser's Inside Story remake, WarioWare Gold? They wouldn't exist without the 3DS. The assets for Luigi's Mansion already exist in Dark Moon. The assets for Bowser's Insider Story already exists in the previous M&L remake for 3DS. WarioWare Gold is a collection of old minigames.

If LM remake was also on Switch, gamers would expect it to look noticeably better.

They wouldn't exist at all if not for the 3DS still selling well. It's something we have to understand and deal with as gamers.

Do not sleep on The Busted Trifecta. Both episodes are legitimately hysterical and genuinely entertaining.

Don is a great writer and narrator.

I don't even like TLOU but yeesh this is one hot take too hot even for me.
Is it? Pac-Man has been a hit for 37 years, TLOU isn't 5 yet ᖍ(ツ)ᖌ

As I said one time, bring all versions of a game. Ocarina 3DS is better in every way except if you are a speedrunner who wants to finish the game in 20 min.
I don't think this would work in their context. Ocarina of Time is the game that put the standards for a 3D action games. Ocarina 3DS is the game for people who want to relive or imagine what that game was at the time, it's not notable in any way even if it's the better version.

And then you have stuff that are only there because they are the first, if you are gonna do the Pokemon Red remake why not just pick a better Pokemon game?
