I'm... concerned about that "most" regarding the cloud saves. I'm getting the distinct impression that Game Freak is going to be opting out of that, despite Pokémon being a series where cloud saves would be particularly valuable.
I noticed that wording as well. Can't wait to find out what games are not going to work.

People knew this was comming, why are some acted as if it came out of knowhere with a backstab included?
Because nothing was announced prior when it came to saves, and now they have become the greediest when it comes to saves because they are the ONLY ones without a way to back them up for free on a current console.

Nintendo absolutely deserves the heck that is being raised in this regard.

The Switch has became my kids favorite console, so it's kind of a bummer that the $20 isn't going to include them. I know $35 a year isn't terrible, but it's still annoying that they announced it one way and are now presenting this extra expense for families.

Its 20$ a year, 4.5 family plan, a plan that you are already likely buying to play online. So Cloud Saves becomes a free perk

That's why it's 20 bucks. They couldn't charge $60 for this.
$20 is still too much when you don't have a way to really push it. The weak online in Splatoon 2 I forgive because its free. When it goes paid? Why would I pay for a product that is inferior to most of what I can get on the PC? Having to use the app in 2018 is a disgrace, and if their singleplayer stuff wasn't some of the best in the industry I'd have dropped them as a company years ago.

It's certainly suspect that their first system incapable of copying saves stored on internal memory to an external device is also when they introduced paid cloud saves.

I can normally find some justification for Nintendo's stranger decisions, but I'm not seeing anything here that isn't just greed.

The only justification I can think of is to prevent hacking exploits like those that happened on the Wii. Of course the Switch was hacked in record time anyway so clearly that was stupid reasoning.

Other than that it looks like pure greed, yup.

You'd think they'd have mentioned dedicated servers by now if that was the plan. I really wish it was, but I'm not optimistic. Splatoon 2 could really use it too, 8-way P2P in a competitive game is absurd.

I dunno, Nintendo doesn't seem to typically share details like that. It could be possible that Splatoon 2 is updated to dedicated servers quietly along with the new expansion, who knows.

But seeing that MS and Sony don't have dedicated servers for all their games makes me doubtful now. Like, I thought that was the entire purpose of paid online. What the hell are people paying for if not server costs?

All I need from them is cloud save so $20 for that function alone is already worth it. I don't give a damn about NES games I've already owned on multiple devices.

What if they keep adding games to it and it becomes a Netflix-esque service for VC games?

Having to pay $20 for a bunch of games I don't want, which might include 1 or 2 I do want (and they probably also disappear after your subscription ends), is much less desirable than paying $10 for a single game I know I want which I get to keep forever.

I'm disapointed that the app is still a thing. Besides that I think it's a fair deal for cloud saves and netflix-style classic games. 20 games at launch with more added later. Website also mentions special deals and offers for members. Most likely discounts on the eshop. I maybe know some people to set up a family share group with. Even if not, 20 a year is wort it to me for what's offered.

They're definitely going to offer other older titles somehow. They're not going to not make money from them forever. I'm still hoping for a subscription service like Gamepass. I don't care that it's an additional cost separate from online.

Oh ... and I am VERY interested in how the "pass the controller" and "screen sharing" will work on the nes games

I noticed that wording as well. Can't wait to find out what games are not going to work.

It could also have something to do with save file size. iirc NBA2k18 (or something like that) had a save file requirement of 5GB internal memory. I'm not expecting more than 10GB space in total, since $20 a year isn't really that much money.

Basically as expected. The fact that they mention NES specifically means that VC is probably still coming as they won't be adding N64 and Gamecube games and still have the service at $20.

All this sounds pretty meh but that's exactly what I was expecting so *shrug*. Cloud saves should be a free feature imo. No interest in NES games.

I did. Do you not understand there could be caveats there? Even on (x number of) different systems is still "even on different systems". "Primary account holder must log in on every switch" would in no way violate what they said but it would make it a hassle for everyone sharing.

Actually, now that the details are confirmed and we know that cloud saves will be a pay only feature I'm more annoyed than ever that I can't just back my saves up on external storage. You want any kind of protection in case your console breaks, is lost, or stolen? Pay up. Oh, and you can't back up all your saves, just the ones we allow.

What. The. Fuck.

I really don't get the fixation with VC. Why are people so eager to pay for the same games every 5 years? There are literally hundreds of ways to play that old stuff, and most of them are better than Nintendo's offerings.

On all previous consoles the online service was completely unrelated to the Virtual Console.

This is the first time they give you classic games for the online service in any way.

That's exactly the problem. If in the past I never played online games the bad netcode or whatever made no difference to me. Now even if I choose not to play online I'm being impacted negatively by not being able to just buy the games I want.

Kind of disappointing that it's just NES games. I was hoping for games across their whole library of systems to be available. At the very least, I wanted SNES and N64 as well.

Not building the system with this capability in mind still doesn't make it a good decision. The PS3 had in-game voice chat but just not party chat, its not really a direct comparison.

Sure. Killzone 2 had proximity based chat, but that was software side. Yes the PS3 had party chat, but only in the chat app. It could not run its chat app and a game at the same time.

Because I want to pay for them and play them without messing with emulation. I don't want them tied to a subscription service. I don't want them to be forced to add online play.

And the dream that Switch brought was portable, official N64, Gamecube, Wii emulation (and more)..

"Assuming there are no other restrictions"

And there almost certainly will be.
Yeah. No way are they going to be allowing random people to group together for a family membership. There likely is going to be identifying information that will be used to link accounts together with one person being in charge to prevent people from taking advantage of this in ways not intended.

Give up the VC dream guys... you either got the eshop, or the Nintendo classic consoles, or the games bundled in your NIntendo Online sub...
