I really don't get the fixation with VC. Why are people so eager to pay for the same games every 5 years? There are literally hundreds of ways to play that old stuff, and most of them are better than Nintendo's offerings.
I dont know maybe some expect Nintendo would let em transfer their old VC purchAses for free?? And will riot if they dont?

glad they're finally doing cloud saves (I'll pay the $20 a year just for that I guess) but still nothing about Virtual Console though? :(

If only there were some nifty home console / portable hybrid made by Nintendo that would be very convenient to officially play your favorite old games both at home and on the go.

Angola / Zaire border region.
Outside of them explicitly saying they will be adding new games regularly?
I'm imagining Netflix-style VC as a service with classic games from across their entire history. At the very least, the full complement of Wii U VC games, and hopefully many more (GameCube etc). Now we have 20 NES games as a throw-in for the 20 dollar per year online service, with a promise of "more to come". There is a pretty big gulf there.

Only getting this to play Smash and Mario Tennis online. I don't care about playing the same, tired NES games again for the millionth time.

I dunno, Nintendo doesn't seem to typically share details like that. It could be possible that Splatoon 2 is updated to dedicated servers quietly along with the new expansion, who knows.

But seeing that MS and Sony don't have dedicated servers for all their games makes me doubtful now. Like, I thought that was the entire purpose of paid online. What the hell are people paying for if not server costs?
Agreed that they don't really like to get into nitty-gritty details, but I don't feel it'd be out of character for them to say something like 'enhance the online match experience'. I don't think they have (though I'm not certain of this).

As for what you're paying for - not much of anything, which is why the PC community has always acted like paying for online is some sort of atrocity. There isn't really anything you're paying for that has an actual cost to deliver to you.

I promise you that the Switch can do more with 800mb of RAM than the PS3 could do with 50mb. For God's sake, the Vita could do voice chat during games with less memory for both games and its OS than the Switch has for its OS alone. They just don't want to do it, please stop spreading misinformation.

They said as much in an early interview. Sorry if you disagree, but I disagree with you on the same grounds. If it could be done it seems like they would do it. They heard the call for cloud saves.

I want portable SNES games, that's it.

My 3DS didnt have that, and even if it did the screen was really bad.

I'd probably pay 60 USD for a collection of the SNES games I want.

I would like to buy it once and keep it, or a signature service

I don't know a legal better way. Where I live the "mini" consoles are really expensive, and it's not portable

Why did they delay this info if we already knew this whole part since the beginning?
This is what no one is talking about. What was the point of the delay? Nothing new was added. NES games known was coming. They needed time to add online? I guess they wanted to time it to launch with Smash. That's the only thing I can think of.

I think people want an actual good VC, one where you pay once for Mario 3 and you just own it instead of having to buy it every god damn device.

So the price is good, cloud saves is great, and free NES games are nice too, but I hope we get more than just NES games. Sounds like VC is dead and this is what it's future will be so for it to just be NES games would be disappointing. Also not that I'm surprised but the fact that voice chat and all that is still gonna be locked to the app is a damn shame. In general tho other than Cloud Saves all of this is stuff we knew about mostly, just with a tiny bit more details. This whole service does seem quite bare bones, but I guess that's why it's so cheap.

No voice chat is disappointing and so are the fact that it's just NES games, at least at launch. I really thought we'd be seeing around 30 or so games at launch spread out across a couple systems. Don't understand why they waited to announce this

I like that there will be a selection, but NES games aren't enough for me anymore. Even SNES games would be pushing it. These games have just been available in too many places over the years, not to mention how easy this is to emulate. Adding online play for SNES would cool, but even then it only goes so far at this point.

N64 and GCN is what I'm looking for. Wii would be amazing, though I'm not holding my breath. Online play would be killer, but we will see if that's ever even on the table.

I'll likely pass on this service untill/unless it picks up.

Its 20$ a year, 4.5 family plan, a plan that you are already likely buying to play online. So Cloud Saves becomes a free perk
Only if you're sharing, only if you play multiplayer games. If they want me to consider a solution to a problem they created a "free perk" they shouldn't be trying to sell it to me.

That family plan is going to get abused to hell lol. That's $5 per person a year if you share. So many sharing circles going to appear.

Sorry if it's been answered, but regarding the free games, are they rolling out like Sony's free games do on PS+? Do you keep them for good or are they timed rentals? Also are they only available to snag for a limited window, or up to grab whenever?

Overall, it sounds good. I'm ok with the family price and stoked for Cloud Saves finally. But Holy fucking shit at their total feedback deafness regarding in game chat. Honestly WTF Nintendo. That garbage forced app is a paid service now?

If this goes long past just NES games in the long-run which I very much expect it to, I'll be -very- happy.

I'm just imagining GBA games like Pokemon and goddamn Mega Man Battle Network with full online functionality and that possibility has me fucking hyped.

If you think a vast majority of people, especially those with Kart and Splatoon, won't pony up $20 a year, I am laughing at you.

The most insulting thing is that Nintendo still thinks games like Tennis and Ice Climber are still things of value. Why not EarthBound Beginnings or even Kirby's Adventure?

If they don't develop a proper VC system, then they deserve to have homebrewers and emulator developers crack the Switch open.

$20 really isnt much in isolation, but when you realize you can count the nintendo titles using online MP on one hand you have to hope 3rd parties pick up the slack.

Additionally, I really hope nobody tries to spin Animal Crossing easter egg NES roms as something of value. Nintendo themselves have devalued these titles greatly.
