I got one today but I'm likely going to take it back. I find it uncomfortable with my glasses and I'm not willing to spend $80 for prescription lenses.

Also it's not quite there yet for me. Perhap the Santa Cruz or a standalone 6DoF Daydream would be more my style. Or hell, maybe a PSVR since it actually has some full fledged games.

Sometimes I worry about this thing blowing up in my eyes like a samsung galaxy note 7.

Oculus Support wants me to take a picture of the black crush/incorrect gamma settings that plagues my unit, does anyone here know if I can remove the lenses and access the screen without dissembling the unit?

You can spend ten to 15 dollars from Zeni optical and get the fully circular frames. I did that with the original oculus.

I don't use my oculus much any more.

Mine definitely doesn't look like that.

Yeah, i imagined that would be the case, however i have noticed something a little interesting. In the Oculus menu i have not seen those issues and i just briefly tried Face Your Fears to take some images as i imagine it would be a good showcase for it, but FYF seemed to have the brightness cranked artificially so the blacks would never dip into the range where they would get crushed, giving it a very washed out grey look.

This probably wasn't done to correct for crush, but rather to reduce OLED smear. This was a problem that came up way back during the DK2, and it was a pick your poison deal -- either refuse to full turn off any pixel to prevent smear and thus deal with a washed out picture, or deal with smear. There is still no real solution to it, and you'll still see devs opting for one poison over the other.

Makes sense, probably was made for Gear VR before it, it just struck me as curious that the darkest game I have seemed to not have this issue.

Norway but living in France
Just got some time to try it. My immediate impressions:
- These menus (setup, quick-menus & home) are very polished. Far cry from your usual mobile VR stuff.
- Controller cursor pointer is very smooth.
- Screen is just as good as its PC brethren.
I'm impressed but I need to spend some quality time with this. I'm going on vacation for the remainder of the week, travelling, so seems like a perfect use-case.
Installed: Netflix, Dead Secret Circle (horror game), Bait (fishing game).

I'm interested. I wonder how it handles heating, though. My S7 with GearVR overheats very quickly when playing some high-res VR videos.
It's been said that the Go handles heating much better, because it doesn't have to concentrate all the electronics in a phone-sized enclosure; it has room for thermal dissipation. Kinda wish they used some of that space for a bigger battery too, but hey, $200.

Ordered mine, I already have PSVR for all my VR needs, wanted to have this wireless VR-light just for media and smaller games, so:
What are the best Oculus Go (and Gear VR I assume) games and experiences that I should try? Is Minecraft worth it? Is there must-see free demos?

No vrchat on this. Bigscreen on the other hand is a launch title for Oculus Go

https://www.oculus.com/experiences/go/1392309124218489/

At least that will be good for playing games in 2D and watching movies or shows. I've spent quite a bit of time in Bigscreen already.

That's a bit disappointing, though. It would be nice to play some of my Steam games, like VRChat, in Oculus Go.
A wireless/standalone headset like this would be much more comfortable for relaxing and laying around in. And at $200, if sleeping with it on somehow hurt it after a year or so's time, I would still consider it worth it.

May consider it just for watching movies and playing pixel games, though.

Thanks for the reply. I'm getting one of these as soon as it officially arrives in my country.

How good is it just for Netflix and Youtube and stuff? If you just wanna watch some movies on it? What does the screen feel like?

Coming from a PSVR the rainbow effect and god rays take some time to get used to. And these are supposed to already be improved lenses compared to the standard Rift?

Yes according to impressions. I never used my rift but the god rays on the vive were pretty bad Compared to PSVR and I think the rift is supposed to be slightly worse than vive?

Even though it's lower resolution the PSVR is a very clear display.

How bad is it in your opinion?

Luckily the Go doesn't have god rays so if you get one you should be fine there - I'm not sure about the chromatic aberration (the rainbow effect), Rift used software to minimize the issue, the Go may not be powerful enough to do that without adding to latency.

You see god rays? Damn, most people said it's gone on the Go, that's disconcerting. The Rift is awful in that regard. I'm still trying to decide between this or WMR, but I know with either I'm going to nitpick some issue with it.

I have a Go. Haven't tried a standard Rift so I don't know if I am seeing the exact same issue but there are certainly some faint rays visible when part of the screen is white.

It's not too bad. In actual content you don't focus on this stuff. It was just immediately noticeable having only used a PSVR prior.

One article I read said that the chromatic aberration is not good. There is a developer setting to correct for it but it may impact frame rates in some apps. Might be worth experimenting with

I just got it, spend about an hour setting it up and downloading some apps.

The screen is rather good, but the lack of positional tracking is a big deal here, i cant reach out my hand in Coco VR to make more gestures.

There are a lot of apps waiting for me to try. One thing that kind of annoying is that it seems the contents are oriented to your environment rather than the headset. So if you are lying face up on the bed, the menu is shown in the headset, but the apps themselves are positioned below the headset. I have to either sit up or prop my head with the pillow to use them on bed.

But watching netflix is very easy. I love the ease of use here. Its by my side and i just slip it on and can start using it. Much more comfortable than any headset i have ever use. I also love the app selection, but theres no keyword search unfortunately.

My headset is making a beeping sound every now and then when I don't use it.
Is it possible that the proximity sensor is triggered by the piece of cloth I cover the headset with, even though it's not moved or anything?

anyone ordered in the UK? I ordered last night and am wondering how quickly it'll get to me. Seems like it'll ship from Ireland?

I suppose they'll have the same 7 day distance selling regs so I can return it if I get buyers remorse?

I havent found a way to power it down completely so it can't wake up by itself. A long press or a short press on the power button seem to have the same effect to me.

Hold in the power button and a menu will pop up asking if you want to turn off the device completely, It's a little annoying that a long press on the power button doesn't power it off automatically.

Doesn't look like it'll arrive this weekend - not even an update since my order on Wednesday.

While I wait - is it worth getting an xbox controller for some games? I have a PSVR too

I'm stuck on the wifi network part of the setup, the Go, or the app on my phone, doesn't see my network. If I try to add it manually it just tells me that the network isn't available.

I know jack shit about wireless and I rarely use that feature on my router, but my phone sees it just fine. The very phone I'm running the app on is connected to that network, while the app is running, and the signal strength is excellent it says.

I mucked around some in the router settings, and it's not supposed to be hidden. I tried disabling encryption and other security and making it an open network, but it fails in the exact same way.

Any ideas? Google knows of no websites at all containing the phrases "Oculus Go" and "Wi-Fi network is not available".

I don't have the Go yet, but am curious on one thing. Is it good enough to stream only 1080p on the Netflix app? Because currently that's my plan, I have no intention to upgrade to 4K, but want to know if 1080p is good enough.

the app maxes out at 1080p video. there's no differentiator for resolutions as you pick through content.

Has anyone tried any of the games listed? Up to now I've only used the Go for video and experience type activities, and while I don't expect much in the area of games, one might be fun.

B-team looks the most interesting seeing as Twisted Pixel has done well in the past. Plus it's on sale for $5 today. But I don't see anything anywhere about the game other the trailer and the link above.
