Can you browse the internet on this thing?

Someone asked and I didn't see an answer. Is there a twitch app or a way to watch twitch streams?

Asked by JoeNut no less!

Man, that 2-2.5 hours battery charge is just a little bit too low for my taste, watching a movie and worrying about it turning off before the end and the missing SD card isn't cool. Gonna wait for some more impressions.

Something like this might be complimented well by one of those external USB charging packs.

There's a web browser, and you can use that to watch Twitch (but no dedicated app I could find). There's also a private browsing mode, but I don't know what that's for.

My initial impressions of the Go are it's neat. The Go is definitely more of a media consumption device than active gaming. Most of the games look like first gen mobile games, reflecting the Gear VR core. Playing board games like Catan might be cool though. The big screen app could be interesting. I jumped into a theater with some random movie and joined in with a couple guys riffing on the film.

If you're big on 8k, 120hz, or use terms like black crush this probably isn't for you. This isn't high end, it's only $200. But the ease of use is definitely a plus. I'm just annoyed I can't change my name without creating a new oculus account. Why? (Seeing as how in my rush I misspelled my own name:(

Mine arrived yesterday, watched about 2 hours of porn on it yesterday night. This is my first time using VR, period.

I prepared by going to the nsfw oculus reddit, and found a thread called your favorite scenes and grabbed like 3-4 scenes people said were the best.

h265 codec files would not work, which I guess are the highest available quality ones currently, usually called 5k because the resolutions are like 4800x.

I had no problem playing h264 codec files, which were like 4k, which just looked ok. Hopefully they patch in 5k support (it works on samsung phones i read so shouldn't be a problem). When you watch 180/360 degrees videos you are only looking at part of the screen so that's why highest quality is so important.

I used a player called skybox media player and it was free.

You can just plug the oculus into a PC to transfer files and it'll show up as a drive after hitting OK on the headset after plugging it in. Perhaps you can do it over wifi with a 3rd party-app, idk.

First video I watched was like a girlfriend experience type video, where she was bitching about you not doing laundry to start. I remember reading VR porn impressions and people saying like it was too intimate, and I totally get what they are saying now. I never understood ASMR but now I get it, because she would lean over and moan in your ear and crap.

It was really amazing. I barely fast forwarded at all and it was like a 1 hr 15 gb file. Usually after I watch porn I forget about the girl instantly, but like an hour later I was thinking about her because it felt that lifelike.

freakin amazing. i'm sure the effect will lessen over time, but right now i'm on a cloud nine.

i'm going to mess around with regular apps and stuff tonight.

Chessguy1 doing God's work! Thanks for the impressions, not sure about the part where the girl craps in your ear though...

Any idea why Oculus would advise against wearing while charging?

They recommend not charging while using due to safety concerns, mostly due to the shorter cable that's included.

Carmack said it's fine to charge and use at the same time and won't harm the device. I have a longer usb cable that I use with it and it's been fine.

I'm going to return mine, between the dead pixel and the crazy amounts of chromatic aberration, it's not the device for me.

I did enjoy watching YouTube on it, but after about 30 minutes my eyes felt stressed.

I guess if there is a charging option on a plane or a portable charger it should be safe to use.

Mine showed up today. I never used VR so it seems neat enough, but it is kind of underwhelming. There is also a dead pixel in the center of the right eye so I hope they replace it. I only tried a coulple free apps so far so hopefully something feepls more impressive tomorrow.

Have you tried Face your Fears? That's the recommended free app to try. Also try Amaze for video streaming. High resolution and stereo 3d.

Recommended paid apps:

Esper 1&2 (telekinetic puzzlers, the second one with a strong emphasis on story)
Smash Hit (arcade auto scroller with cool breaking glass physics)
Daedalus (very immersive controls)
Cries of Harvest (retro 8-bit)
Augmented Empire (XCOM style 3rd person SRPG)
Viral & Viral Quarentine (arcade shooters with cute virus enemies)
Art Plunge (5 paintings you can step into, like the Mona Lisa)
Dispatch (base version is free, with more chapters to purchase)
Masters of the Sun (hip hop comic in VR)
Melitta (SF cartoon)

Thanks! I have face your fears loaded up but didnt have time last night to try it. I will take a look at the paid list too.

Tested have their review up of the Lenovo mirage pro. Didn't realise almost no apps are updated for 6DOF - like a byproduct of it being daydream based. Considering the price that really seems to make oculus go a safer bet even being only 3DOF

Not true, according to Google 70 apps including Rez Infinite, Eclipse, Virtual Virtual Reality and the new Blade Runner game support the 6dof headtracking.

Gaming wise the library stills looks underwhelming, although better than the Go's library which seems to be filled mostly with uninspired trash.

That's "almost no apps". And most of them just add 6dof head tracking without adding any gameplay based on it, so it's a comfort thing, not a "look around the corner" or "duck" thing. Heck, the fact that Netflix doesn't support 6dof in the Mirage is crazy, considering it only requires checking a box in the App Store, not re-building the app or anything.

What is it about the Go's library you don't like? You haven't liked any of the games you've bought and played on it? What's a Go app you bought that you didn't like, so we can avoid it?

I don't have a Go but a Gear VR. The problem wasn't that I bought apps which I didn't like, but instead that there were not just many interesting ones. Good ones I liked were End Space, Lands End or Smash Hit. But many others like e.g. VR Karts just reminded one of cheap 90s pc shareware or early mobile titles.

Apparently the controller doesn't support 6dof, so what's the point?

I have PSVR but would this be better to use for PC games rather than the PSVR emulator program?

Nvm, should have read more. Not the product for me it seems. Probably would be better to get one that scales off your hardware.

What the, do they not understand their product and how dumb that request is?

I'm returning mine for a dead pixel, it sounds like it's in the same place as yours. Lucky for me, I bought it on Amazon.

Anyone know how to adjust the screen in the Netflix app so I can lie on my back looking upwards? Right now I need to sit up to be able to see the screen :(

Mine is from Amazon too, I just want to give them a chance to address it before I have Amazon deal with it.

I don't think you can do it in the living room mode, you have to go the Void Studio or whatever in the top left corner and choose the other option

If you want a cheap PCVR instead, get Windows mixed reality headsets. Slightly higher price tag than Oculus Go but sometime they can cost as low as $200 with discounts

Well that sucks. I was about to play some smash hit but they made in compatible with the Go even though it worked fine.

Whole reasont the thing came to the market. Easy to use for VR Porn and no cables. Glad to see that they didn't fuck this part up. As soon as people know that this works good for porn it will sell like hot cakes.

I'm still torn whether I should get the Oculus Go or WMR. My PC specs are too poor to run majority of games, but I could still probably do more with WMR than the Go. Yet, with the Go I know what it is and isn't capable of. I've tried the Rift, and it sounds jarring to not have 6dof. If I go with WMR, I can't be certain how most things will even run on it.

Oh I don't mind the audio I just wasn't sure if this app needed to be connected while using and downloading to it. But that's just to activate it

I ordered one yesterday and now I have some stuff to do. I need a charger that works with it to start with (my current charger has no information about what it outputs, but it's old so it probably isn't good enough), and what the situation with streaming video is.

What is the question, i'm confused?

Edit: If your question is about the charger, it's 5V 2A. It also switches between 100-240 on its own so if you're in another country with a different plug style you just need to change the plugs.

There was no question, it was just another pointless "me too" kind of post.

To turn it into a question, how's streaming done and what are the limits to what you can do with it? For a media device like this, it seems important to know what it can and can't do and what software on both ends you need.

I had never heard of Plex before now, but it's apparently a media server and client streaming solution that has an app available for the Go. So I suppose this would let me stream videos, wirelessly, from either a PC or NAS? What kind of limits are there in regards to resolution, bitrate, and codec?

Can't I just mount a samba or nfs share (I'm old)?

My headset is shutting down (goes completely black) while watching Netflix. Do I need to move frequently or something for this to stay powered?
