Lol, it's a "We didn't want to renew it, but Disney made us" thing I guess.

There's going to be a lot more of that as the main networks move wholesale into mainly inhouse productions. If it's making decent bank internationally/ on streaming and it's a choice between paying the same for a new show which might not do those numbers then I imagine the network will keep some pretty low rated shows ticking over for longer than they should.

see the CW as a case in point.

ABC isn't opposed to pre-announcing final seasons (they just did it with Scandal) so the fact that they are specifically *not* doing that with SHIELD means something.

DWTS: Juniors?

Oh god.

I stopped watching the show years ago. How is this still even going- not even just going, but adding spinoffs.

ABC says this is the first time ABC and Freeform are presenting together. They will reveal the lineup of both channels.

EDIT: ABC saying consumers need better advertisements and needs to "add the advertisers within the shows", whatever that means.

Disney has a new ad solution.

Most likely not which makes me sad. I don't feel like the bulk of the fans pushed for another network to pick it up like the fans of The Expanse and Wayward Sisters. The Wayward Sisters stuff is very impressive. Over 50,000 signed the petition already and that's for a CW show that never even existed. That show would have been a huge performer for the CW but for some reason they simply refused to pick it up but the fans are pushing hard for it.
I doubt it will have any impact, but there has been a pretty substantial effort from the fans for Lucifer, mostly on Twitter. #SaveLucifer and #PickUpLucifer has been on the worldwide trending off and on since the news broke

because non scripted TV is cheap. Why pay writers when you could throw up shit on screen which will get enough viewers to make more money than an actual good scripted show would? People are sheep.

Freeform is up first, talking about renewals.

"Freeform is the millennial network."

I'm technically Millennial (1981). I'll be 37 this year. Freeform is not for me.

I guess they threw out the term becomers? When they first rebranded, they said Freeform is for becomers which meant someone who is between the ages of 15-34.

Now they are saying Freeform is for millennials.

Not in my opinion. Supernatural is already spread thin enough; we don't need it to get thinner. Plus it would take any of the good female characters away from Supernatural. CW needs to stop trying to do Supernatural spinoffs - it's not going to happen.

The fans were the ones who wanted this spinoff to happen. They literally petitioned for this specific show with these characters.

Freeform is the #1 most watched channel on digital. Authenticity is important to Freeform programming and you will see that in their lineup today, millennials want shows that are authentic.

New pilot announced — Besties is coming to Freeform. The show Besties "is about figuring out who you are and who you want to be."

that name is awful.

If that was the case, ABC would be inclined to renew as they do get the profit. But it doesn't seem like a CW case, it seems like Disney forcing a non-profitable show to continue for brand reasons.

Next up is a promo for Marvel's Cloak & Dagger according to Twitter.

EDIT: Promo apparently uses a modern cover of House of the Rising Sun.

It doesn't have the live viewership for "brand reasons." If the show didn't do something financially for Disney, it wouldn't be renewed.

Might be in this case, although I don't see Disney as the sentimental type, but I mean in general we're going to see a few baffling decisions per year from now on.

That Grand Hotel trailer just reminds me of Desperate Housewives (ABC's popular drama from 2004-2012) but with rich people instead of housewives to be completely honest.

Not sure if that's what they're going for but it looks extremely similar to me.

Honestly anyone I talk to has a different set of years of what a millennial actually is.

Doesn't matter anecdotally. It's 1980-1 as a start.

"The majority of researchers and demographers start the generation in the early 1980s, with many ending the generation in the mid-1990s. Australia's McCrindle Research[27] uses 1980–1994 as Generation Y birth years. A 2013 PricewaterhouseCoopers[28] report used 1980 to 1995. Gallup Inc.,[29][30][31] and MSW Research[32]use 1980–1996. Ernst and Young uses 1981–1996.[33]"

Do you know the show Black-ish? It's a TV-MA spin-off of that where the girl is going to college. She's "grown" and going to college is kind of what the name means.

*rolleyes*. Yes. I'm in the TV thread. I know what Black-ish is. My friend Dawn called her daughter "grown" at 18 and it just irks me. For instance. Grown Up, maybe. Grown isn't a description. Now get off my lawn.

obviously not many fans.

The petition that is only around 3 days old already has well over 50,000 signatures and that's for a show that doesn't even exist on a low ratings network. It's competing well with established shows on bigger neteorks that were canceled and now have petitions.

As someone who has follow The CW, Supernatural and The Wayward Sisters movement, the hype and fan love is real. Would have performed well for the CW.

Fresh off the boat and Speechless getting send to the death spot is breaking my heart.

They're not being sent to die - ABC has aired comedies on Friday for years (Last Man Standing, Dr. Ken, etc). This is a return to what worked for them after their disastrous "genre night" experiment (Once Upon A Time/Inhumans/SHIELD) failed to move the needle.
